  1. Just in case someone in the same position looks at this thread. 1.9.2 is working on my laptop. I had to register the app from my Affinity account. I don't know if this means I have used up 2 registrations on this one machine or not.
  2. I see that version 1.9.2 is now available. From the information in my original post re operating system and graphics does anyone have have any information as to how likely it is that the new update is going to run on my laptop? I really don't want to have to update then uninstall and re-install 1.8.5 again.
  3. I have tried to update Affinity photo to 1.9.1 It Opens to the splash screen then closes. I've tried uninstalling and installing again no change. I've updated to latest intel graphic driver - splash screen stays a little longer before disappearing. I've gone back to version 1.8.5 which works. Running on a laptop Windows 10 Home 19042.870 Intel UHD Graphics 620 driver 27.20.100.9316. Any ideas?
  4. In my mind technology is hardware. Although software does have the same ability to cause grief :)
  5. Thanks to all those who have contributed to this thread. From what has been written I think I understand the following. There is more information and understanding of Macs rather than Windows machines because Affinity has been used on Macs for longer. 16Gb of Memory is a sensible amount but in a Windows machine leave a couple of slots spare in case you want to add more later. GPU is not a major issue just make sure it can run the resolutions you want to use on your monitor/monitors (I like a dual monitor set up). SSD is a good idea but be aware of the limitation on the number of writes that can be made. Number of CPU cores I'm not so sure about but having found the unofficial performance data I think 6 cores rather than 4 is an advantage (insufficient data on Windows machines to be sure, but over time I would expect more and more software to be written to utilize multi core processors). New AMD processors --- I've bought into "not quite there" technology before -- its never worked out well so I'm going to stick with Intel, unless it takes me so long to spec and order the computer that the AMD bugs are sorted. Again thanks to all who have contributed and if you have any comments on my conclusions I would be interested to read them.
  6. I'm thinking about upgrading my current windows computer. Currently i5 2500K, 8Gb, GTX560. In terms of Affinity Photo speed am I best looking for a CPU with more speed or more cores? Kabylake or Haswell E For the GPU Quadro or GeForce GTX I will include more RAM and an SSD Thanks.
  7. So far, what I have seen, I like. Having selected a mask and then changing the brush size before painting out some of the adjustment I had to go back and select the brush tool icon in order to get the round painting brush. If not I just had the windows standard mouse arrow.
