Terry44 got a reaction from Philippe BOIS in Feature Request: MORE Customization of Interface
Not sure if this has been suggested.

The current option to customize the tool bar with the available tools is nice.  I prefer the added ability in addition to what is there to customize all the panels and have a universal tool set that consists of ALL the tools from all the panels and allow me to place any tool from any panel or menu on any other panel, tool bar or interface item.   This would allow for creation of custom panels and not just collections of panels.

There is a software that takes this to a new level.  PaintStorm Studio Pro
    paintstormstudio.com

That software allows complete customization of EVERYTHING within the interface including individual tools.   I would really like more of that type of customization within the Affinity softwares.

Bringing the DELETE icon button over to the tool menu from the layers panel would be great!
    Stuff like that...

I was thinking about this for the purpose of creating animated characters and game art and I think a basic timeline to onion skin frame-to-frame / keyframe,  animations and export them in a sprite sheet, individual files and option for an animated gif would be nice.  I know there are a lot of these type of softwares free, open source and paid.  Having this work flow within affinity designer would be great.

Our plan is absolutely that the EXE/MSI installer will be available before the launch offer expires.
We're looking at technical ways that you (and others affected) will be able to have a 30 day test once the EXE containing the MSI install is available. It isn't settled how this will be achieved (we have a few options being considered) but yes trials will reset (that is the plan, we're still testing what's possible)

Terry44 got a reaction from Amdival in Recentering The Canvas - How To
I know this maybe a basic thing but took me a bit to figure this out.

I am using a Wacom Intuis Pro Pen & Touch Tablet so I programmed one of the express keys on the tablet to recenter and reset the rotation of the canvas.

I am using Windows 10 so not sure what this is in other systems.

    Hot Keys:

CTRL + 0  = Center Canvas on screen via "Zoom to Fit" CTRL + 1  = Zoom Canvas to 100% CTRL + ALT +SHIFT + R  = Reset Canvas Rotation
Note: You have to type and hold down the following keys for this to work, in the Keys: field in Wacom Tablet Properties it will have curly brackets around the modifier keys.  {CTRL} {ALT} {SHIFT}, this happens automatically when you hold these keys down.

I setup the express key command as follows, do NOT type the PLUS signs.
    CTRL + 0 + CTRL + ALT + SHIFT + r + CTRL + 1
This centers the canvas, resets the rotation if it has been rotated and then zooms the canvas to 100%.  You can set this to be whatever you want but for me this works for resetting and centering the canvas when it gets moved around and I can't find where I am.

One key press it is all done.

Any chance for an opt-out for automatic updates? I for one, and I can't be the only one, don't like to update working production software until I've seen that the new version didn't break anything.

Hi all. Thanks for your patience over the weekend when our offices were closed.
We've had a meeting this morning and decided to ALSO offer MSI installers to those people who would like them. I can't tell you when this will happen, as there is engineering work that will be required to allow this to happen, but we hope it won't be long.
    Thanks for your feedback!

I had no issues with the version 1 update process.  What complaints were there?   I prefer that with the ability to choose whether to update or not versus a forced update.

If an update breaks something how can I revert back to a previous update?   I also like having downloaded copies of the updates, can we still do that?

I just wanted to express the sad emoji for you from a Like. Looks like I am only allowed once a day now.
Since I haven't heard back from the refund department I just installed Photo 2 and then added a shortcut on the desktop and had to create an ico file. I grabbed the icon.png from the MSIX file and created one from it. All this just to get a shortcut with an ico on the desktop.

Microsoft and it's "app crap" where it's trying to turn a desktop OS into a tablet OS even if we're still working on a desktop is about as misguided as Meta's metaverse thing.

I purchased the universal license for the discounted price for the future development of the version 2 apps.  With version 1 we got quite a lot of updates and features over that life span of version 1.  There are some nice work flow improvements and features for both designer and photo but mainly I purchased now for the discount on the future app improvements which I would then want to buy but at a higher price.

Note: The exe and installation issues with the shortucts, icons etc.. are being worked on and an update will be coming to resolve workability issues as stated by serif support in other threads.

This might not help but in Windows 10, if you create a shortcut to the affinityPROGRAMNAME2.exe link you can send multiple files to the program and they will open in whichever program you are linking to.

    affinityphoto2.exe "d:\images\test 1 2 3.jpg"  "d:\images\test123.jpg" "d:\images\test 3 2 1.jpg" affinitydesigner2.exe "d:\images\test 1 2 3.jpg"  "d:\images\test123.jpg" "d:\images\test 3 2 1.jpg" don't need the exe at the end of the program, optional.
Edit:  I added spaces in the file names example above to test if spaces in file path would work, seems to work as long as you quote it.

I agree. I never had problems installing Affinity programs.  This whole create your own shortcut and also your own icon to go along with it is garbage and unnessary burden.
They also need to some how differentiate the icons from the different versions, too easy to click on the wrong application.

This works for me from both command prompt and powershell in Windows 10 with and without quotes around the file location.

    affinityphoto2 "d:\images\happy.jpg" "d:\images\sad.jpg"  "d:\images\dance.jpg"
    And

    affinityphoto2.exe "d:\images\happy.jpg" "d:\images\sad.jpg"  "d:\images\dance.jpg" affinitydesigner2 "d:\images\happy.jpg" "d:\images\sad.jpg"  "d:\images\dance.jpg" affinitypdesigner2.exe "d:\images\happy.jpg" "d:\images\sad.jpg"  "d:\images\dance.jpg"

I posted a rant about this issue in another thread before seeing this thread.
There is an easy way Affinity could fix this problem while still keeping the Windows App architecture.
Install as a Windows App, but then create stub executables that contain only the relevant icon in C:\Program Files\Affinity\Photo\Photo.exe. This stub executable will simply exec the real executable located in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\<mangled name>\App\Photo.exe. The installation can also create a normal program group in the start menu as well as desktop links, at the option of the user.
This method will also allow Affinity2 to integrate into the workflow of other software in the same was as Affinity1 does, since they'll be able to call a normal executable.
Every time there is a new software release, the installer should update the stub executable as well, so that it points to the new location, since that will change. We'd then have an app that behaves nicely both in the normal windows desktop experience as well as in this crippled Windows App model

I see that you support DocX files.. I do not use Microsoft Office, instead I use Libre Office and they use ODT files.  I can save out to docx but I primarily use the native ODT file format.
Please add the ability to open ODT files inside Publisher.

This thread needs to be pinned to the top of the forum.  A lot of my issues are stemming from the memory leaks of the Affinity applications.

I have similar type of experience with the stand alone Designer application and after a few hours or less I have to reboot my computer.
    Publisher is worse.

In Affinity Photo the background erase tool works very well, though you have to manually go through and erase the fine areas.  I used this tool to remove the background from some intricate 3D geometry and it was very easy to select the correct colors in tight spaces.  In my opinion this tool is the most accurate I have ever used for background removing.  Though it is not a one click and done for you tool.
