I get the impression from Serif that they are primarily targeting the multi-page brochure market and not long form books. At least initially. You generally need PDFs and not eBooks for that. I'm hoping version 2 will expand Publishers target audience to long form books, and include ePub support in the process.

Thanks the converted font works. Any idea what all the other Windows app are doing differently from Affinity apps that allowed them to work with the original? I've tried half a dozen different apps which all work. Is this a bug in the Affinity apps or something more quirky?

Using Windows 10, I was looking for a Goodwrench logo style font. Found one called Badwrench, but it doesn't display properly in any of the Affinity apps. All three Affinity apps appear to display Ariel (or something similar) when Badwrench is selected. http://www.nnracing.com/filelibrary.asp?fileid=23280 Photoshop, Microsoft Word, and Libreoffice Writer display it properly. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Affinity for Android
pixelstuff replied to IbrahimGHO's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
What is the marketshare on Pi OS? I mean I have seven Raspberry Pi hardware units, but they are all running a digital signage OS instead of a desktop environment. I wonder, out of the 35 million total Raspberry Pi hardware units sold worldwide, do the units running a desktop environment come anywhere close to the 30+ million Android tablets sold each year. Samsung alone shipped almost 60 million units during 2020 and 2021 combined. That's not counting Lenovo and the dozens of off-brands being sold like Huawei or Walmart's Onn.- 148 replies

Affinity for Android

That might be the way to go IF there is a lot of compatibility issues (leading to tech support hassles) or IF they could get Samsung to foot the bill in exchange for exclusivity. Otherwise they would be shooting themselves in the foot by shunning half the market from the purchase. How many Samsung Tabs are sold compared to all manufactures combined from Google, Asus, Acer, nVidia, Lenovo, Toshiba, Onn, Huawei, Xiaomi, and dozens more regional brands from around the world.- 148 replies

Depends on how good of a workaround you are needing. You can export to PDF and then use Calibre to convert the PDF to EPUB. It creates a usable EPUB, but with poor fit and finish. If the final product isn't too bad you might can go in and clean it up with the Sigil application.

Hi, I was wondering if there was a proper method a shape like the following two joined animals. If I select all the nodes at the feet and use the break curve command it creates a bunch of extra shapes inside the holes between the feet, and also changes the length of the legs and screws up the back of the lower animal. When I try to merge those shapes with the upper animal to punch out holes for the legs again the legs get cut off higher than the back of the lower animal. Meanwhile the back of the lower animal gets an extra triangle above it's back that I can't figure out how to get rid of. I'm assuming I've gone in the wrong direction here and there is a better way of splitting an object.

Yep. I've basically stopped recommending Affinity Photo to everyone. Early on I could overlook obvious clunky workflow problems as first generation growing pains. The Affinity software seemed promising, but with over six years of fairly regular updates the first gen excuse doesn't hold up anymore. The fact that they are still missing basic features present in all other Photo editors just tells me they are making a "my way or the highway" type of statement without regard to efficient workflows. Maybe they'll change their mind at some point, but until then I'm relegating them to a niche player like Luminar. Nice, interesting features, but too many quirks and shortcomings.

What do you mean by "submitted"? This thread is in the Feature Request & Suggestions forum. Do they have a direct feedback system like Google ... which I haven't been able to find?

The Windows version of AVIDEMUX has a checkbox in "Edit > Preferences > Output > Default to the directory of the last read file for saving" I would be interested to know if that setting exists on the Mac version and how it performs. http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/download.html

SUGGESTION: Live Collaboration?
pixelstuff replied to pixelstuff's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Your first objection is already an issue if you share documents in network shares. Anyone can open shared files and make changes without your knowledge. Maybe you don't work in such an environment, but I do. If we lock down the permissions then it prevents others from getting the job done and can create a bottle neck. Aside from that I also occasionally have more direct back-and-forth situations when designing something like a poster where another experienced designer makes a suggestion, I make the change, export a low res JPEG, and drop it into a chat room. They look at it and make more suggestions. I sometimes end up exporting dozens of times or more. With some collaboration features I could imagine two scenarios. 1. a non-experienced user in view-only mode being able to see every change instantly. 2. with an experienced designer, when they make a suggestion about transparency, alignment, text wording, etc, I could tell them to show me what they are imagining and we'll both decide what looks best. -
Affinity for Android
pixelstuff replied to IbrahimGHO's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
I don't think anyone here is suggesting Serif does something that they can't fully support. Like everything else in the Feature Request & Suggestion section, suggestions are made in the hopes that Serif likes the idea, feels it is worth their time, AND decides they can fully support it. Personally, I like seeing discussion on the pros and cons of different ideas, even if we don't have all the inside information to know how Serif would weigh in on the issue.- 148 replies

Affinity for Android
pixelstuff replied to IbrahimGHO's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
Ummm. All you did here was name the single competitor that was already on all the other markets when Serif decided to enter those. The fact is that other than Adobe products, which are too heavily dependent on Adobe's Creative Cloud, there isn't a high end photo editor on Android. All of the others seem to be basic cropping and tinting apps. The only real question is whether all the Android tablet and Chromebook owners would want a good photo editor.- 148 replies

Affinity for Android
pixelstuff replied to IbrahimGHO's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
That would be Serif that provides the resources for the developers, just like they did for Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo for Windows, Mac OS, and iPad OS, and Affinity Publisher for Windows and Mac OS. Do you think they source that out to other companies or something?- 148 replies
