Haluke got a reaction from Petar Petrenko in Photo and Designer: Seamless tiles and infinite canvas
+1 for seamless texture editing in AP and AD. (Vector tiling would be cool, too.)

The affine filter sort of does the job, but going back and forth, retiling/resetting the offset and
rescaling/checking how it tiles is really cumbersome. Try making a high resolution tree bark texture tileable.
While a nice outcome is perfectly achievable, much of the effort goes into fiddling with the affine filter.

Krita's approach reminds me of the live filters we have.
Here is how it's "supposed to" work in Krita. Unfortunately, the mac version just doesn't work properly.

I'd like to make a request for something I used ALL the time in Macromedia FreeHand: the Find & Replace Graphics panel.
It is one of the most time saving and amazing things even put into graphics software and I miss it greatly. Adobe still has a page up with some very old looking screenshots of it from Mac OS 9: https://www.adobe.com/support/freehand/programs/creating_animations/creating_animations03.html

You could basically find anything in your document and replace it with something completely different. Colors, strokes, stroke widths, symbols, overprint attributes. The list goes on. It was an amazing boon to productivity when dealing with very detailed illustrations or many-page documents.

Some tools to control overprinting will be welcome. After controls for Pantones, plates and overprinting controls will add something useful for Affinity Designer and Affinity Desktop publishing. Controlling overprinting on objects or selection, a panel (like Illustrator) where you can hide a color and view overprinting is really important before you send files to printer (the professional, not the machine).

Purpose: Features / Improvements / Fixes
    Status: Beta
    Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer
    Mac App Store: Not Submitted
    Download: Here

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

    Notable changes:
    - Artboards. These are still work-in-progress and you can expect a few niggles, but at least you can see the direction we're heading. At present we still need to add auto-slice creation to Export Persona for artboards and we also show an occasional flicker when adding artboards: these will be fixed before the next update. We also need to move guide, grid and rulers to work per-artboard, so these are currently not as they will be in the final release and will be fixed asap.
    - Global colours.
    - Full support for P3 panels found in the new 5k iMac and 4k iMac. If you have one of these you can try making a new RGB8 document with ProPhoto profile and choosing RGB(255,0,0) or RGB(0,255,0) as the colour of your objects - they should look richer and more vivid than you are used to seeing.
    - View points added to the Navigator. The Navigator has an advanced mode that lets you choose to create and swap between specific view zoom/position saved points.
    - Font fixes. Specifically, a number of font-related crashes have been addressed
    - Export/Import improvements - particularly PDF.
    - Fix for Text tool failing to accept certain characters (those that were mapped to other shortcuts!)
    - Snapping improved for Rotation Centre. Rotation Centre is available from the Move Tool's context toolbar.
    - Pantone/named colour/tint improvements. Selecting an object which has a Pantone colour will automatically choose the tint options in the colour panel.
    - Canvas rotation. The canvas can be rotated by using the touchpad's rotate gesture or by using the View menu items 'Rotate Left', 'Rotate Right' or 'Reset Rotation'.
    - Fix for colour conversion issues exhibited with HSL colours in RGB document formats.
    - Character & Paragraph panel improvements.
    - Typography panel show visually the effects of different OpenType features. Select some text and go to the Typography panel - this will show you the available options for your current font and text selection. Try changing fonts for more options.
    - Printer’s marks and bleed available for output. The export options for PDF now include these additional options, as does the Print dialog.
    - Smart Tap feature. Toggle between the current zoom and 100% by double-tapping with two fingers on the trackpad. This is useful for designing up close and being able to easily refer to a 100% view and then back again.
    - Updated splash screens. These are necessary as we need to include Pantone licensing information.
    - Added Split-toning adjustment. This is available from the Layers panel's adjustments menu and the main Layers->Adjustments menu.
    - Snapshots panel. This panel (disabled by default) allows you to take a snapshot of the document in the current state and refer back to it at later points.
    - Added shortcuts for the different Personas. These can be customised by the user as desired.

Haluke reacted to rui_mac in Color swatches should be "live" or optionally "live"
Lets say that I create a new color swatch.
I apply that swatch to an object.
If I changed the color of the swatch, the change should reflect in the object and to any other objects it is applied to, throughout the document.
But, as it is now, it seems that I can't even edit a swatch, once it is created.

Also, it should be possible to create Tints based on color swatches. The tints would also update if the original color swatch was edited.

I know this is becoming annoying, but FreeHand had this working perfectly. Illustrator has the ability of defining colors as "Global" or "Local". All colors in FreeHand were "Global" and, if this is implemented in Affinity Designer (I hope it does), the "Global" mode should be the default one.

First let me say how impressed I am with Affinity Photo. I have been a Photoshop user since it was released about 25 years ago. I'm happy to have explored the beta and be among the early adoptors of Affinity Photo.

Getting used to interface difference is always a part of migrating from one software to another. I understand that.

One feature I use constantly (or would were it available) is to hide the mask selection (aka hide the marching ants) when image editing. In Photoshop this was easily done hitting [command H]. I gather this command is used for other purposes in AF, and there is not current keyboard alternative.

Adding this feature would rank very high on my list of feature requests.

Thank you for all the work making such an outstanding and exciting product!

    All the best,

Haluke reacted to jarombra in Digital Painting Absolute Must-Add's
I'm very excited for Affinity Photo to become an "industry standard" digital painting tool, but there are a few things it needs first:

    - Color picker HUD (fly-out palette accessible while working on the canvas)

    - Customizable hot-key commands

    - Live rotate tool

    - Canvas flipping hot-keys.

If those four things can be added to the software as it is now, there is no reason for digital painters to keep their exorbitant loyalty to Adobe. I for one am eager to get off the bank-busting CC subscription, and I know that Affinity is the imminent promised land once the aforementioned needs of digital painters are featured in Affinity Photo. Please feel free to add more items my fellow digital painters in this thread. I hope the Affinity staff takes note!

There are far too many under-the-hood changes this time to list them all, but the highlights for this beta are:

    - New "Haze Removal" filter.
    - User-definable keyboard shortcuts (first phase - more to come...)
    - New PDF export engine with ability to output PDF/X-1a, PDF/X-3 and PDF/X-4
    - Added Character and Paragraph panels - rather than these options being stuck in large modeless dialogs
    - Boolean geometry operations fixed
    - Many import and export improvements to PSD, PDF, EPS, SVG, etc.
    - Attempt to import .AI legacy files
    - New, searchable preferences panel with support for user-definable nudge distances

...and of course, the two changes I'm sure everyone will be most happy of all with: The beta now has its own icon and also has a sensible numbering scheme!  :)

Hi all, I just had a quick look at photo beta and it looks great!

There are two features supported in Krita which I think would make fantastic additions to both photo and designer:

1: Tile mode (or "wrapping" mode). In this mode you can see the image/canvas repeated at least once beyond each edge and corner, and you can just draw off the edge and the drawing automatically wraps around to the other side. Ideally most of the built in effects and filters would also work properly with tiled mode, such as blurs, bevels, shadows, etc. This would be superb for making or working with seamlessly tiled backgrounds and game textures.

2: Infinite canvas. When you find yourself running out of space at one edge of the canvas, this feature would make it very easy to extend the canvas just in that direction.

    Cheers,
    Jules
