    Another way I think should work:
     
    1. Make sure the upper curve is below the lower one in the Layers panel.
    2. Select both curves, switch to the node tool & click the Close Curve action.
    3. Select both curves again & select the Subtract operation.
     
    I think this should result in a single closed curve even if the end nodes of the original ones are not overlapping.

    Hi tjathol1,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
    Select both Nodes, change to the Node Tool - make sure Snapping is enabled - then drag one node over another until they change to a yellow node (means they are overlapping). Then select both nodes and click Join Curves button in the context toolbar. Do the same for the other side and the shape should be closed. See attached clip.
