  1. I didnt noticed - true. Same here. I can cut other shapes with straight line too, no problem here. Exactly like you say - just text is affected, both as text and even changed to curves.
  2. I have posted about this bug too in other thread. In my experience its not about fonts - its about straight line. Try to use knife tool without shift, just freehand cut through font/objects. If you use knife tool on its own, without shift all should be fine. Kindly let me know if this is the case for you too.
  3. This reminds me similar stupidity, when people were outraged at game company because they thought game will be exclusive for their console but later was announced for PC as well. So somehow this was bad and they were outraged, wanted refund pre-orders.... Because others were about to get to play this game too and they wanted it just for themselves... People are just weird species.
  4. @Mark Ingram Thank you! Now I am able to see pros of that decision. Thats all I wanted to know and more. I will stop whining about that then
  5. Without harsh words and blaming - I wish to know WHY. What is the reasoning behind that decision. What are benefits - if not for users but for company, I still would like to know. Because for now it just looks like it creates problem for both users and company with that backlash. And I am not trying to proof any point, I am not saying "this is stupid", "I will not purchase" etc. I will use Affinity regardless but honestly I am simply curious why.
  6. I can give you my shoes, I bought V1 five years ago. First of all I am sure this is a real story 🤭 Lets make that absolutely not made-up story little bit more similar to Affinity situation: You buy a coat for the full price and then you go to the same shop next day and... DIFFERENT COAT is on sale. And you say "sir, yesterday I bought a coat for the full price, but I see today this DIFFERENT coat is on sale - can I get a discount too?" And... of course they give you a discount! And chocolate ice cream too! And give you free ride to home too, because they are not some mean software sellers but nice people. And this absolutely could happen in real world and we are not making up stories at all! 🎵You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one🎵 🤪
  7. When using knife tool with shift for straight line on text it is leaving behind curve that stays connected to one of the letters. You can see it on screenshot number one. It can leave multiple curves behind. Same thing happens when I used it on text changed to curves. Additionally parts of text disappear - it was even more severe on text changed to curves. You can see it on screenshots 2 and 3. Now the interesting part - both bugs ONLY happen when I use SHIFT for straight line. Freehand knife - no matter how abusive I get with it, no matter how crazy or if its used on text or curves - it just works as it should. Not leaving any curves behind, no disappearing. Screenshot 4. So assumption would be its shift/straight line related bug. Hope you can find out whats causing this because knife tool rocks!
  8. By trial and error I found that on Windows you click and drag with shift - it gives you straight line on certain angle only but you can add ALT to it and it will allow you to use any angle. click+drag+shift+alt.
  9. If thats the case and you can simply Unzip it and run normally then... I see zero benefits from making it windows app. I thought it could help limit piracy or make it harder but if all you have to do is unzip it... 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️
  10. Do you mean the same Adobe that ignores massive bugs for months? Photoshop once had dreadful bug regarding text tool. It was impossible to change size of the font to the actual size, window to type in value just wasnt there. Took 2 months to fix it. Silently, one day it just worked again. No announcement, no nothing. Meanwhile we were sh···ing our pants from happiness and joy Adobe was so kindly delivering us with their "guarantee and security of a big company". And automatic answer "our team is working on the issue" that you get IMMEDIATELY after sending bug report Ah Adobe, how much I DONT miss you.
  11. To be honest I dont know anybody who is using ONE software only. Maybe some Blender fanatics Its all about communicating with different apps in pipeline. And any step that makes it harder - is step back. That would apply to that whole windows app decision, sadly.
  12. Well, here I am. Professional 3D modeler and sculptor, using Affinity Photo and Designer for all sorts of stuff - texturing, good old graphic design, sketching, digital painting. Last year I have illustrated children's book using Photo. I could have use Paintstorm Studio or Krita or Corel Painter but I just used to Photo so much that I didnt bothered jumping between apps. I got several friends who are using Affinity - mostly Designer - for their purpose. Once I spoke with rather big name in the industry - Joseph Drust, formerly working in Pixologic, about possibility of writing addon for Affinity Photo that would allow to export many passes from ZBrush in one file to Photo. Sadly it was impossible due to lack of scripting capabilities in Photo (or something like that, I dont remember specifics) but he mentioned that is using Designer and finds it very cool. I dont expect to convince you - judging by your tone you are determined to demand legal documents, videos, transcripts, official statistics posted on government website etc. proving that somebody is using Affinity in professional setting But I think we may agree on fact, that just because YOU dont know anybody who is using it means literally NOTHING. I dont know any people that are using Rhino3D. So? That also means nothing. World is bigger then we and our circles. And you are just random person from internet - like many of us. Nobody will try hard to prove something to you. I might tell you how the things are, but you can easily keep believing otherwise. In the world where some people cannot be convinced that Earth is not flat I dont expect to have any success convincing you that you are mistaken. I just want you to know you are. Your disbelief will not affect reality, I will not be forced by it to go back to Adobe. Neither will any of people I know that are indeed using Affinity in their workflow. So you can either believe it or.. not. ------------------- And yes, the whole windows app thing is really annoying. I love using Affinity software and unlike many here that are threatening to stop using it or ask refund or some other type of drama - I will keep using it even as an app. But I did lost ability to start Photo from FastStone viewer which was very convenient. So it has impacted my workflow negatively offering nothing in exchange as positive. I hope devs will consider (or whoever is in charge there - certainly not devs ) to go back to good old exe. I would appreciate that very much!
  13. Frankly I am disgusted. Disgusted by people who get 40% off - nearly half price - from ALREADY VERY LOW price and STILL complaining because they didn't got extra special-VIP-mega-loyalty exclusive club discount 🤦🏼‍♂️. We ALL got a discount. A big one. I bought Affinity the day it came out on PC. I never needed Publisher (maybe for tables only) but I bought it to support Affinity because I LOVE working using it. Sure I complained here and there, I am not a fan of it become "windows app" but the software itself brings me joy. Often I don't feel like I am working - just having fun with what I do. Which I stopped feeling with Adobe products long time ago and I was happy to ditch them. I still don't need Publisher and I don't have i-pad but I will be purchasing next week the one license for all the apps anyways. Its ridiculously good value. And great software worth supporting. While Adobe is adding bunch of gimmicky nonsense I am happy to see Affinity adds actually useful things. Lets see what V3 will bring us in few years. Meanwhile I will enjoy the ride.
  14. So changes that V2 has would be a nice upgrade, but somehow hype transformed the same very changes into bad ones?.. Classic "but I was expecting more and you didnt matched these expectations created by my imagination. How dare you?!" 🤭 @ronnyb I would be one of those guys who is making a living using Affinity software since V1. I am a bit annoyed by the fact that Affinity became now Windows App, but it is still fantastic package and I will definitely keep on using it and earning a living with its help. It is fantastic package and hell - I remember how much Affinity grew since v1 - all updates and new options for free in what.. 5 years or so? I mean... thats crazy. This team definitely deserves our support.
  15. I got one question: WHY?! Why this is not just normal program but windows "app"? What are the benefits? Because I can clearly see downsides. I cant connect it to other apps for start, I dont have control over files... This whole windows apps is just as good as Games for Windows Live and I hope it will share its fate. I can only think about piracy - maybe that helps somehow to fight it, but I am not a pirate, I am legal user that cant use my favorite app like I did before. PLEASE go back to normal way of installing. This only took away functionality of your software and you cant seriously demand that 3rd party software developers of countless apps will fix that for us because you decided to make it a windows app.
  16. Nothing is as good as 13 pages of unsupported speculations mixed with questions that cant be answered at this time.
  17. Just lighthearted joke about you having ONLY two GPUs. Considering thats the limit in overwhelming majority of motherboards.
  18. I am on 1.10.4 and it works perfectly (basically latest release version). I had a problems with acceleration before but now it works just fine. I guess thats the problem. You need more GPUs. 🤭
  19. @cabinfeverclayHappy it works for you now. Its not about being difficult - forum is for helping each other. But just for the future - because I see you said "I havent tried that again" - do try. Try multiple times. If its crashing then always try to write how to replicate the crash and in exactly what version of the software it happens. It is helpful to developers. Saying "crashes and totally unstable" helps nobody. Crashes when doing what? Crashes on what operating system? If possible say what hardware you are using. All this will help. Sorry for the tone of my previous comment.
  20. I know I could not work as moderator. I am frustrated just by reading this exchange. I know that just because the last version works great for me doesn't mean it works for everybody but I have a feeling about this... Aaaanyways ;)... After many days of working on latest stable version with acceleration turned on, I can say I had not a single crash. And before it was basically guaranteed in the first minute.
  21. I am not sure where to post it really but for many months I had acceleration turned off due to crashes. I just checked acceleration on latest Photo 1.10.4.1198 on GTX1070. I played quite a bit with big stock photos, painted with various brushes, opened multiple projects, wrote some texts... No crash. In "whats new" I couldn't find anything about improvements of acceleration, I also do not have newest game ready NVidia driver... I did nothing to the system (win10) but it works now. At least all the testing and fiddling that would earlier for sure cause a crash now seems to work great. Hopefully it stays this way For now acceleration stays ON. Thank you for whatever you did that fixed it It seems anyways.
  22. I would like to just say that yes, absolutely this should be added to Affinity Photo. Just recently I noticed how great painting is in Photo with the changes done to resizing brush. It works perfectly now, very cool! Rotating canvas would be very necessary as well - please kindly think about it since rotating is already implemented but is really uncomfortable with stylus. You fixed resizing brush - please fix rotating as well haha. Another small idea that could help digital painters would be ability to reverse brush from painting to working as eraser. Basically you just push button and brush works as eraser instead of painting. You push it again and is back to painting. Very cool option. In any case - I really appreciate how Photo now works for digital painting!
  23. Ow slowdown is very real. I mean there were official statements, multiple benchmarks widely available, ALL tech related channels talking about it... It is what it is. I agree that I havent heard about any program failures caused by win11 but I wouldn't rule out such possibility. I certainly think patches will sort it out - if not now, bit later. I mean they cant just leave it like it is. I switched to Photo from two decades of Photoshop not because of money - I simply like Photo way more. You have quite a cpu there, my friend Very cool! I have merely Ryzen 7 with 8/16 cores and Photo is absolute pleasure to work with. Smooth as butter. Thats why I dont mind waiting for acceleration being fixed It was a blast to have really big brush working extremely smooth with acceleration turned on. Looking forward to be able to enjoy it once more. For what I have read AMD side has to react to that issues on their side but I know nothing about programming, so no way to verify how true it is. AMD is weird - they have "professional" line of GPUs, yet they dont support extremely popular software and features in professional field. Instead they are writting their own renderer, getting involved in Blender... It cant replace professional needs. And I wish they would get involved way more in CG world, beyond just games because NVidia has monopoly in some fields and thats never a good thing. Now Intel is coming with its GPUs as well, so things may become more interesting. In any case - good luck to you in all your endeavors
  24. @bobknAbsolutely. By all means - you do you. I am speaking from the point of view of somebody who is making a living on PC and cant afford "ow look, it doesn't work.. Well, lets hope they fix it soon". Because meanwhile I would have no income Sadly Win11 is a mess for now and a big no-no for anybody with Ryzen AMD cpu. Unless wants to "enjoy" up to 15% slow down. As for AMD GPUs - I would be glad to buy one for many reasons but software I use either would have problems or it is not working AT ALL on it. Substance Painter is notably slower and people were reporting some bugs and in Maya it doesn't support Arnold renderer at all. Shame because I think they have some really cool hardware - being Ryzen user myself. As for GPU acceleration in Affinity - I have NVidia card and cant use it either It crashes almost instantly, maybe after a minute of use. I have no clue how hard it is to make it work, but I am trying to be understanding here - Photo for me works perfect and is quite fast without acceleration so I can wait. I remember when Designer was crashing constantly and randomly when using pen tool. They have fixed it after long battle and its perfect now. So as disappointed as I might be that I dont see any fixes for acceleration in this beta I am giving them benefit of a doubt. This team showed more then once that is capable of great things and is indeed listening to users. Latest example of that would be for me how they dealt with changing brush size with stylus. From unusable weirdness they changed it to one of my suggestions (not taking credit, but hey - I suggested it and it works like this now - call it coincidence if you want) and it is pleasure to work with now. Lets hope GPU acceleration situation will have a happy end. I would imagine its a complex matter. So, fingers crossed for the team.
  25. If you are CG artist there are two things to keep in mind. And I am not joking or trolling. Research heavily before purchasing AMD GPU because sadlu it is riddled with problems or unsupported entirely outside of gaming. And never - NEVER - give up into FOMO and start installing new system right away. Its never a good thing to be early adopter. Give it time so they fix bugs, patch it out... Why you are jumping on win11 already? You need that rounded corners that much? Chill out for now, stay on win10 until they sort out all the problems.
