Thank for this! I was having the same problem and it worked for me. I tend to have all my documents stored in Dropbox so I can jump between different computers. Downloading the .eps file to my local drive worked!
    Thank you

    My system,
    Affinity Designer : 1.10.6
    MacOSX: Ventura 13.2.1
    MBA M2 Apple Silicon
    8G RAM
    I'm facing exactly this problem.
I'm trying to open an EPS file from my iCloud Drive, but all files are getting blank after opened.
    I noticed that:
    - EPS files outsite iCloud Drive > Affinity Designer folder has this problem.
My EPS file is under iCloud Drive > MyFolder ....so is getting blank after opened.
If I download to my local hard drive or move it to affinity designer iCloud folder it works.
    So my question is:
    - Is not possible to use files outside Affinity Folder in iCloud Drive?
Is this a bug or a requisite to get this working?

    Oh wait a sec.
My last guess (until I have another one 😉)
Are you using an external hard drive or cloud storage?
If so, try bringing the eps file to your local drive and try.

We are not, we are all very excited about what has been said and the future for Affinity. This thread is about your response not ours. As an employee of 24 years I am personally very pleased about what Ash has announced and the Affinity and Canva pledge.

To followup on some of my comments yesterday, we are today enshrining our commitment to the Affinity community in 4 pledges made by the Affinity and Canva teams.
You can read about them here.

We do truly believe the coming together of Affinity and Canva is only going to be a good thing for our customers, staff and the development of our apps. We very much hope you will all continue to be with us on this journey.
    All the best,
    Ash

If a reasonable valuation was £400m and someone puts £800m / $1bn on the table, I think most people would bank that and then start looking at the other terms - as implied in the article.
A great result for the owners and many Serif employees. Probably less good for UK Plc and, eventually, users like us.

Thanks a lot for your valuable hint!
But as I elsewhere stated, I'm working in a production environment, and there even new official updates are somewhat "dangerous" and I use to wait some time whether there may show new critical bugs...

    I 'll exercise patience 🙂

Whe you are typesetting whole books with AFPub, you will need the menue items/shortcuts for "next page", "previous page" and "got to page..." very often.
If I'm right, the menue item "go to page ..." does not do anything, at least on my AFPub setup on Mac Studio with Ventura.
It just doesn't do anything, just closing the dialogue.
Am I doing or seeing something wrong? Normally, if I want to navigate to e.g. page 128, I would call that menue item and type in: 128, then <enter> and here we go.

There are also two inconveniences at that dioalogue:
    • the input cursor in that dialogue should set to the input field of the page number wanted, when the dialogue is opened
    • the button "ok" should aktivated, so that by pressing <enter> the action is executed.
(At the moment one can call that dialogue only with mouse (!); you have to press a <tab> or mouse action to activate the input field (!!), you have to use the mouse again, to commit that action(!!!)).

(I'm happy with my Affinity Suite)

Both of my credit cards and my debit card are in perfectly good standing but they're all being declined (or so your site says) in your store on both Safari and Chrome. Seems like a bug. I even did the two-step verification with a number sent to my phone. I was finally able to use Paypal to purchase. I'm in the US and tried both Safari and Chrome on Mac OS Big Sur.

icreate reacted to Jochen Damm in Data Merge Chart Editing
Another additional idea copied from other software:
It is possible to import charts from Microsoft Excel and edit them manually. For Adobe Illustrator exists a plugin called Datylon. This company provides beneath this plugin a library of over 120 chart templates. You can import raw spreadsheets and design beautiful charts out of it with specific features including the usage of color palettes/swatches like global colors and even spot colors. There is a whole bunch of design options. From the variety of chart types to the editing of each part. But the main feature is in my own opinion the data merge aspect of it. You can create one artboard per chart or combine multiple charts on one artboard but the data is linked to its source (spreadsheet) and updates itself. For example it would be useful for annual finacial reports. But also for scientific purposes. When the data has to be presented in a proper way as fast as possible. Sure, most scientists don't mind if the PowerPoint presentation has this outdated look and feel because the actual data is the main focus. But for public relations it should be more appealing. And you can print/save the charts in less than two minutes if you had its template designed before.
Software like Microsoft Excel or Libre Office Calc have gained some additional power for styling charts in recent years but they don't have the flexibility that is needed.
At least the following chart types should be editable by a module/tool:
Column and Bar, stacked and/or grouped Pie and Donut/Circle/Ring, Demicircle, Nightingale Area, stacked Line XY (scatter) and Bubble Net Stock Column and Line Bump and Slope Stream Density Bullet (bar within another bar)

Youtube tutorial from Yes, I am a designer to demonstrate this plugin
This feature request is helpful for several parties but I rank it myself as low priority and optional for later implementation.
But if there are users that need it more urgently vote for it.

Hiya,  when selecting a Fill or any colour e.g. for a Text Frame; selecting Swatches and a swatch on any of the panels then navigating away, reselecting the Fill always drops back to Colour (and its panel) - or Gradient if thats been selected, never Swatches (i.e the last selected which is what I would expect); Can't say I noticed this behaviour before 1.9 and its exhibited on Big Sur and El Capitan.
    Kind Regards,

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, Affinity Publisher > About).
If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update, or in the application main menu there is an option Check for Updates. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Publisher for macOS) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Mac App Store purchases and needs a product key).

A HUGE thanks to the team for this upgrade.
Have been wrestling with my first large Affinity Publisher book project – since moving from InDesign – for a couple of months. The file is north of 400 MB with hundreds of illustrations across 317 pages. Just moving through the file by scrolling in the Pages panel took several minutes, and threw up more beach balls than a record attempt in Florida.
Updated to 1.10 this morning. Completed an author's correction that would have taken several frustrating minutes in less than half-a-minute. This update is a game changer for those of us working with large files. Ten times faster – seems an understatement.
    So well done.
And now we know where all that developer effort has been directed for the last several months.
With that work done, can I put my hand up for some developer attention to  supporting variable fonts? An increasing number of new fonts, such as through vendors like MyFonts, include a variable option as matter of course. In the works?

Note that the auto-update occurs only if in System Preferences > Software Update > Advanced the option "Install app updates from the App Store" is enabled.

If this is set up like the above, the Mac App Store app "Updates" section should show the updates with an install button for each of them.

icreate got a reaction from ashf in Multiple columns for palettes
I love the Affinity suite of products but the one thing which bugs me about the interface is that I can only have one column of palettes on the left, one on the right.
In Indesign I have three columns on the right, two of which I usually minimise and one (normally for character and paragraphs etc) expanded all the time. On the left I have one (minimised) with not-so-frequent-but-handy-to-access palettes.
At the moment I have so many tabs next to each other and on top of each other that it drives me mad!
We really need to have multiple columns for storing/organising palettes, especially since monitors are so large these days - there's a lot of space being wasted which could be used more efficiently.
I also think it would be handy in publisher/design to be able to share docked palette locations for similar functions; i.e. character, paragraph, swatches etc, but understand this may be unworkable due to the difference between the available palettes in the respective apps (unless Affinity want to prove me wrong - please, prove me wrong!).

I saw a notification in Indesign today that Adobe are discontinuing support for Type 1 Fonts on the Mac (in 2023 for Indesign & Illustrator, 2021 for Photoshop).
    https://creativepro.com/adobe-is-ending-support-for-type-1-fontshttps://creativepro.com/adobe-is-ending-support-for-type-1-fonts
I understand Type 1 goes all the way back to the 80's, but a lot of the fonts I have are Type 1 - will Affinity continue to support them or will they be phased out too?
Just trying to work out if I should move my longterm Indesign documents to Affinity or just see if I can find OpenType versions instead…

Hello - I am using Typeface as well and having activation issues. For example I've activated Frutiger (PostScript Type 1) and it's not showing up in Publisher. However it does show up in Photoshop. I've restarted and all that. And then there are other fonts where it's no issue with them showing up in Publisher.
