  1. Affinity Designer 1.7.1.404 on Windows 10 64-bit

The left circle has 2 px radius Outer Shadow. The right circle has a second circle mimicking the Outer Shadow. I get very different results.

Here's the details of the Outer Shadow

Here's the whole document, zoom 5 times.  You can see then dimensions are the same.

But depending on the export dimension (or even the zoom level in Affinity Designer), I get wildly different results.

Here's the example file: Layer Effects.afdesign

  2. I have a symbol that contains a single curve with a fill and a stroke. This symbol is used in dozens of places across multiple artboards. Today, I decided to tweak the color of the curve. At first everything worked as expected: changes to the first instance of the symbol were reflected in all symbols. But then, I pressed undo. AF undid the last change to the stroke of the first two instances of the symbol, but none of the rest. Now when I hover over the symbol (and the curve) in the Layers panel, it says that fill and stroke are unlinked attributes. For all of the instances of the symbol that I was not editing, the fill and stroke attributes became unlinked.

    There are two issues:

    1. Undo should not unlink attributes
    2. There is no way (that I can find) to relink (resync?) attributes.
  3. I built a set of icons (with Affinity Designer) that are intended to be rendered with a non-scaling stroke. The stroke should be 2px regardless of the displayed size. So, I need to be able to:

    1. Export SVG files with vector-effect set to non-scaling-stroke in the style.
    2. Export PNG files at a few sizes with the same stroke width, meaning both a 32x32 PNG and a 64x64 px PNG would have the same 2px strokes. I understand how to export multiple size PNGs, but the stroke always scales.

Is this possible with Affinity Designer?

  4. Please make sure that Aero will NOT be needed in the final release as this should be a choice of the end-user not the programmers. If Aero is needed to be "on" then I do not want to use this program. I'll wait until you come out with the PS killer to see if that requires Aero.

I'm pretty sure that when disabling Aero you are actually disabling hardware acceleration. Turning off DWM (Aero, glass, etc) is just a side effect.

I certainly don't speak for Affinity. But if it were my company, I don't think I'd invest in developing a software rendering solution nearly every computer in use can perform hardware acceleration. Basically every computer built in the last 7-8 years has a CPU with a decent integrated GPU.

Out of curiousity, what version of Windows are you using and why do you disable Aero? Why is this so important to you?
