Same question. It would come handy.

I'd like to see optical kerning also in Designer (and Photo), as it very much relates to short text too (like logotypes). Sometimes fonts have interesting design but bad kerning info, demanding lot of manual work. Optical kerning at least gives a good headstart for this work.

hevonen got a reaction from Nobody in Linux. Seriously now.
While I'm not personally interested in Linux (I prefer *BSD), the market might be there:

    1. Visual effects companies use Linux (Maya, Mari, Nuke etc), almost exclusively from what I've read. That's some seats but as mentioned they're picky.

    2. Linux users are willing to pay for games.

In Humble Bundle sales Linux users pay more than OSX users (around 20% more) and there are less people, but the difference between OSX and Linux is rather small compared to Windows:
    Total Payments:$109,110,346.32
Linux Payments:$8,289,554.21 Mac OS Payments:$11,950,170.75 Windows Payments:$81,205,243.13 (data from http://cheesetalks.net/humble/)   3. About the most serious digital distribution platform for games has had Linux support for over two years. It has had non-gaming apps for around three years. It's market share is estimated to be around 75% for all digitally sold games. It has 125 million active users. It's called Steam. (source: Wikipedia)   Of course it is not as ubiquitous as Mac App Store, but there are plenty of graphic artists and some graphic apps on Steam.

hevonen got a reaction from JohJakob in Snap control handles to pixels
While nodes themselves do snap to pixel grid, I can't get curve control handles to snap to neither grid nor pixel alignments.

Is there a design reason for this? It makes it hard to create symmetric assets or constrained drawings. Ideally I would like everything to snap to anything checked in snap properties.

Yes, please streamline color picker, current way to change color of an object to something else is unnecessarily slow and tedious.

    Maybe something like this:
    - hotkey for invoking color picker
    - clicking on a color will instantly change either fill or stroke of selected object(s), using modifier key (like shift) to change which one changes
    - clicking and dragging will recolor the selected object in realtime, to give good visual feedback
    - if no object is selected only color will be changed
    - current color palette eyedropper could coexist with this, as sometimes one just wants the color

hevonen got a reaction from achilles177 in Symmetry tool for creative painting
I don't know if this is targeted towards AD or AP, but symmetry tools are very useful for murals and engravings. Especially in game graphics.

Artists can create seals (not the animal), floor tile designs, engraved doorframes and stuff like that very quickly in 2d software and then convert these to normal maps or actual displacements in 3d app.

As an extension to typical x/y symmetry it would be quite useful to have user-defined radial symmetry (either by angles or by extra axes running through symmetry origo), so when symmetry mode is active all drawing actions are mirrored on all axes. Would be great!

hevonen got a reaction from MattP in Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.2.0.24974)
There seems to be a bug in the coverage map (anti-aliasing setting):

Selecting bunch of objects and clicking on the curve to add a point in the middle *without* moving it causes coverage to jump to a visibly sharper setting.

However the curve has not changed, so either the drawn curve is drawn wrong or the curve is interpreted weirdly by the rasterizer.

In addition it would be good to have some preset curves for the setting. For example normal, sharpened (control points at 0.25, 0 and 0.75, 1), cutoff (control points at 0.5, 0 and 0.5, 1) and something else (minimum, maximum).

And I would also like to have non-breaking single pixel lines, Bresenham style!
