stokerg reacted to Hangman in Publisher shuts down when book exports
Hi @stokerg,
This is the crash report generated when exporting the file in case it helps to identify the cause...

stokerg got a reaction from Hangman in Publisher shuts down when book exports
Hi @n.k.0508,
While I don't get a crash, exporting your afbook file does cause my Publisher to just hang. I can cancel the Export but after that, the rest of the interface just doesn't respond to my clicks.
I'll get this written up and logged with the Developers

Hi @n.k.0508,
Okay, there seem to be a few issues but the good news is I've managed to export your .afbook to a PDF file. Please check the attached file to make sure it looks correct... I noted that some of the Placed PDF files contain low-resolution images so don't reproduce very well, e.g., SWOT Schwächen.pdf and SWOT Stärken.pdf in the chapter FE Neu, Is that intended?
Issues
You should ideally store all your assets on your internal Hard Drive rather than a Cloud Drive such as OneDrive. This avoids potential synching issues when both working with and exporting the document. Having said that, I don't believe this is the cause of Publisher hanging on export in this particular case...
With the assets you provided several files in the .zip are incorrectly named once unzipped, I suspect this is again down to the files being stored on OneDrive... Note the Umlaut and the Eszett in the file names are misinterpreted. You may not see this at your end as this may be a direct result of saving the files from OneDrive... I corrected the filenames and relinked the files. SWOT Schw„chen.pdf

I've not tested in any great depth so far but it appears that the cause of the crash when exporting is down to the placed PDF files on Pages 5 and 6 of the 'IP Neu' chapter being set to Interpet rather than Passthrough. Coincidentally owing to missing fonts in the placed PDF files I had already changed all Placed PDF files in the other chapters to Passthrough so I would need to go through and check whether this is causing issues in general and if so report this as a potential bug.
Once the placed PDF files on Pages 5 and 6 of the 'IP Neu' chapter are set to Passthrough (and quite possibly the other PDFs across all chapters) your file exports correctly.
I also experienced a slightly odd issue which I've not seen before where initially the 'FE Neu' chapter didn't open when opening the .afbook and when I attempted to add it manually I received an error telling me it was a 'Duplicate chapter' even though it didn't appear in the list of open chapters and I'd deleted the Lock file for the chapter after a previous crash.
I've attached an updated version of your .afbook file along with the updated .afpub Chapters so I'd be interested to know if you can now open and export the file without Publisher crashing. I've also attached the exported PDF.
I hope this helps...

stokerg got a reaction from NotMyFault in Documentation mapcui
Hi @NotMyFault,
Thanks for reporting this.
I've been speaking with another member of staff about this and we are sure this does need changing/updating. I'm going to get this logged with the Docs team to update the help file and also ask for comment from Dev, just to confirm the correct order of things

stokerg got a reaction from CM0 in Publisher crashes on mouse click in document
Hi @CM0,
I've replicated the crash here on both Windows and MacOS.
I've just logged this with the Developers to resolve. Any updates I get on the report, I'll be sure to update this thread

Are you sure you have the right forum?
-
stokerg reacted to walt.farrell in Using "views" inside a prompt
This is a forum for users of the Affinity software suite to get support with using Affinity. At this point Affinity does not use AI.
As first defence suggests, you're probably in the wrong place for that question, @Scratrat.

Luminosity Masks are a way to dynamically create masks based on levels of dark and light. In this video, we’ll look at this feature from the ground up and see how it can be applied to your photographs.

stokerg got a reaction from NotMyFault in Pixel layer, extension of canvas during painting
Hi @NotMyFault,
Well this is a strange one. I can replicate this on iPad, Mac and Windows so it's not just an iPad issue and from speaking with QA we can't see a valid reason for this to happen with a rotated pixel layer.
I'll get it logged with the Developers and will update this thread with any information I'm given

@stokerg
The Windows 11 color emoji font recently added the COLRv1 format in addition to the existing COLRv0 format (which Affinity does support currently).
So it is only a matter of time now until an Affinity user asks why their color emojis do not look the same as in other Win11 apps (e.g. Word) which display the COLRv1 versions.
Supporting COLRv1 would solve that issue - and this one.
Please make a note to the devs in AF-2609.

I'm afraid that I can't remember what I was doing at that time except that I was working on the same drawing. I have been away since then until today when I hope to pick-up on the drawing again. If the crash happens again I will make a note of what I was doing at the time.

I'm able to replicate this. It seems like the redraw is getting confused when you show/hide the layer.

stokerg got a reaction from walt.farrell in Affinity Photo 2 will not open JPEG 2000 document properly
Hi @Tom Blake,
Having double-checked this with QA, they confirmed our support for JPEG 2000 is currently only for J2K and JP2. So this isn't a bug and would be more of a Feature Request to support JPX.
I'll get this moved over to Feature Requests

stokerg reacted to Bryan Rieger in All Affinity products failing to open or create new project caused by a *font*
The Aref Ruqaa Ink font found on Google Fonts is an SVG colour font, which also doesn't render correctly in the Safari web browser (you see it for a second and then it disappears).
In looking at the font in both FontLab and Glyphs I've noticed there are some undefined mkmk (mark to mark) lookups which could cause issues, but it's most likely that a combination of SVG + colour + undefined mkmk features is causing the problems. I suspect when Affinity loads the available fonts on start-up, this specific font is likely creating an exception and/or race condition somewhere in the apps causing it to hang or crash.
Google Fonts is a great resource, but not all fonts on Google Fonts are created equally—the quality varies greatly (metrics, features, etc)—and as such, not all fonts work as expected.

stokerg reacted to kenmcd in All Affinity products failing to open or create new project caused by a *font*
In this particular instance I do not think there is a quality issue with the font.
The font was created by an expert.
And was created to demonstrate advanced font technology.
The font contains three formats:
Monochrome (in the glyf table) COLRv1 (in the COLR table) Color-SVG (in the SVG table) My guess is Affinity is confused by the COLRv1.
And simply does not know what to do with it, and gets stuck.
COLRv0 and COLRv1 are both in the COLR table, but have different formats.
My guess is it sees the COLR table, and tries to load it, and chokes on it.
Many browsers support COLRv1.
Some browsers only support Color-SVG.
Browsers should be smart enough to use the format they do support.
So that font should provide color text in most browsers.
Affinity should be smart enough to not get stuck on a format it does not support.

I upgraded to Affinity Designer 2.2.4.1 and now I see the little dots. No doubt I was doing something wrong before, but works fine now. Thanks for the help!
