    Clearly, the new boss is paving the way for newcomers. Many Canva users are unfamiliar with Affinity, so they require tutorials to grasp how to use a professional design app. Step by step, my friend—step by step.

    I understand the theory behind the stickiness from @walt.farrell's post (thank you there, walt) in the other thread, but it also defies the point of having individualized brushes in the first place. Which is to have "on hand" a set of brushes that perform consistently on an as-needed basis. Even walt's explanation of this being a "ternary setting" would suggest (to me, anyway) this was conjured with "developer logic" in mind. I'm not the maker of 99% of my brushes in Affinity, so when it comes to experimenting, I always end up having to turn it off when returning to do mask work. Of course I always forget.
    Settings that shut on and off seemingly at random (from user POV) creates unneeded tension between users and the programs and generates needless support requests. I remember when I first ran into this problem. It took me a bit to realize what had happened so I was pointlessly trying to work. Time wasted I will never get back. Normally I assume I had done something wrong, so I was checking Layers and blend settings, etc to see if I had hit a keyboard shortcut (which I did in PS at times). I had no idea a program would be causing it "intentionally", because that seemed so counterproductive. Anyway, this is yet another example of arrogant design decisions from Serif.

    I "know" to setup the masking brushes to prevent this, yes. But I've had this issue with "creative" brushes as well. I sometimes can't tell whether "Wet edges" is intentionally set or not for other people's sets. There have been times it was seemingly obvious that setting was not intended, so I have to turn it off and check. But yes, I have to check the brush settings to see how it was intended/optimized just to simply test a new brush I'd bought. So you know what I do when I encounter this? I just go back to my other program which behaves perfectly rationally and ignore the brush engine even more... that's the cold reality.

    For the beginners in the room, I'd love a little link to explain how Regular Expressions work. I love documentation though, just me.

    Yes it does. Safe/quick fixes for 2.2.0 went into 2.2.1 . Any fix that needed a longer beta cycle went into 2.3.0 whose codebase started when we mastered 2.2.0. The first beta (due very soon) contains new features and improvements and over 100 bug fixes.

    We have now released beta build 2.2.1.2075, which is Release Candidate 3 of the 2.2.1 patch
    It includes the fixes listed above and has updated Help files in all languages, but is otherwise the same as 2.2.1.2063.
    We think it is important to get these fixes above released as soon as possible, so 2.2.1.2075 is to be treated as a Gold Master (final release candidate) that we hope can be released next week.

    You may have set Recent to None in the Mac OS System Preferences. Some applications can override/ignore this setting, others honour it. Go to the System Preferences (or Settings(?) in the newer OS) and check the General tab.

    Many thanks for the further testing performed here!
    I can confirm that our development team have identified this to seemingly be the cause of this issue, as we made a fix in 2.2 to attempt to better handle ICC profiles that contain accented characters in their name, and this seems to have had a knock-on effect for other installed ICC profiles that don't include such characters - though it does not affect all installed ICC profiles.
    The failure to correctly understand these profiles/profile names causes the list to appear in the incorrect order in-app, and when selecting one of these profiles the app will silently fall back to a previously selected/default profile, causing the issue to appear as though the app doesn't retain the colour profile option selected.
    With the above information provided from our developers, I believe this issue is in-hand and should hopefully be resolved shortly, in our next available update. Apologies once again for any inconveniences caused in the meantime!
    It is possible to 'roll back' to a previous version when using the Affinity Store version of the app, however the Mac App Store version does not allow for this, as Apple only provide the latest update through the MAS.
    Can you please confirm for me, are you using the Affinity Store or Mac App Store version of the Affinity apps?

    Agreed, AI to simplify workflows to get something tedious done with 80% of the result and 10% of the work, otherwise, I see no use for AI tools.
    With Photoshop's AI tools, you still have to correct the sky selections, etc, which fail to get non-blue skies, night skies, reflections, etc.

    I didn't even think to compare Designer 1 vs. Designer 2... it's definitely bug introduced in Designer 2...
    I was wondering why this hasn't bothered me before, since i've been using this app for the better part of a decade, haha.

    Das Thema hatten wir erst vor kurzer Zeit, aber wenn Affinity mit KI beginnen sollte würde ich nicht mehr mir Affinity arbeiten, denn die KI zerstört jede Krativität beim Fotografieren, weil die nichts neues zeigen kann, weil sie mit betehenden Daten gefüttert ist! Bildbearbeitung mit Automatiken produziert nur Mittelwerte!
    We only had this topic a short time ago, but if Affinity were to start with AI, I wouldn't work with Affinity anymore, because the AI destroys all creativity when taking photos because it can't show anything new because it's fed with existing data! Image processing with automatic functions only produces average values!

    @Alfred
    Here is an extract from Unicode. I show here only 4 of the attributes of each character out of several more than 200.
    <char cp="0027" age="1.1" na="APOSTROPHE" […] na1="APOSTROPHE-QUOTE" […]/> <char cp="2018" age="1.1" na="LEFT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK" […] na1="SINGLE TURNED COMMA QUOTATION MARK" […]/> <char cp="2019" age="1.1" na="RIGHT SINGLE QUOTATION MARK" […] na1="SINGLE COMMA QUOTATION MARK" […]/>
    @walt.farrell
    I agree that the use of the curved apostrophe in the user interface may seem like a minor detail. However, the user interface is a key element of the user experience and can have a significant impact on the perceived quality of software.
    Without going back to the first WYSIWYG text editors, which revolutionised desktop publishing by allowing users to directly view the final output of their work on screen, the use of the curved apostrophe in the Affinity Suite user interface can help improve the overall user experience and increase user confidence in the quality of the DTP suite. I think this could be an easy improvement to implement and I hope the Affinity development team will consider this suggestion to improve the quality of their software.
    A spelling mistake is still a mistake! It's a bad thing in a software that wants to claim excellence.

    mdriftmeyer got a reaction from MarcusThueste in Apps not opening at all because they're trying to connect to a now defunct server
    An app attempts to connect to a server mount point should time out with a notification which mount point fails and then default to user desktop path in Finder.

    Affinity should contact Apple Dev for clarification on this and what methods need to be called to produce such behavior within the apps so this doesn’t hang the application. They should test the length of timeout optimal from user feedback. UNIX command line timeouts on NeXTSTEP we had preset to 900 ms before pipe closed.
     Personally, I wished they never split OS X in two and then gutted the server side services.
    You should launch the app executable from Terminal.app to record the output and find out if it is specific to the application or an issue with macOS/OS X.

    However in Designer the new measurement tool:
    "Measurements are not permanently displayed, are non-printable and are not saved with your document."
    So close and yet so far!! Please make them permanent and graphically customisable, + angle measurements + secondary units (ie -mm and inches)
