MadMak got a reaction from midvok in Color panels, HEX colors
So, the main color panel I use is this panel.

Can we have somewhere an option to show or copy the HEX color in lowercase? Please?
Also, if you try to input only three symbols, for example FFF, you get 000FFF and not FFFFFF. This drives me insane, because in web development FFF is white and nowhere near to blue. Separate R# G# B# inputs are kind of useless. Does anyone ever use them?

This panel is almost perfect. Almost, because it lacks HEX input field. Please add it, because I have to open the big color panel just for the HEX code.

In those kind of panels for some reason opacity percentage is missing. And HEX color code input.

If you click through all options in the select box and get back to "Hue" option, you get this. I guess, this is a bug.
Please, add the HEX color input to all "Hue" color panels, make it lowercase, change the logic behind transforming three to six symbols code and add the opacity percentage to every opacity slider.
These small changes will save a lot of my time.

    Hi Matt,
Is it possible to make an extra setting in SVG export for exporting graphic elements names as classes instead of IDs?

MadMak reacted to mcpete in Talking to a Ai user that was thinking of switching, caveats I had to warn them about
Recently had a colleague asking about my thoughts on switching to Affinity Designer from Ai. I've been using Designer since 1.2 and overall really love the program, but this question reminded me of some of the common issues that come up for me daily.
So my response was that is was a great program that can replace Ai… but there are some issues so I can't fully recommend you do it.
The main issues that stop me from fully recommending the app are:
    1. Expand stroke can create truly horrible results, especially if you have variation in the stroke pressure. From excessive points (no simplify path operations either) to weird curves. And the smooth rounded ends of variable pressure strokes become pointed.
    2. There is no Free transform tool. Something I sorely miss from Ai to make quick perspective changes on grouped objects.
    3. For some reason I find it very unpredictable where the resulting shape of path operations will go. I don't know how much time I waste having to put errant resulting intersected shape back into the group from which it's parents came.
    4. And lastly, working in the web, it find it a little inconvenient no to be able to enter colour values (ie. hex, rgb) on the Colour palette. I know there is also the Colour Chooser palette with the number fields, but it is so gigantic and doesn't fit in with the other palettes. If they would just combine those into one, with the option of toggling the colour fields. That'd be so nice.

I guess, this is the way Serif set their business priorities. We can cry and pray, but things are not going to change unless Serif change plans. They try to make money and if a version for iPad will earn them more money in less time, iPad app wins in the priorities list. We can't really do anything about it. This the way modern business models work.

Wonderful! I'll get it passed on to development as the regular Layers Panel doesn't exhibit that behaviour when Ctrl clicking, so I don't believe the Slices Panel should (not to mention it also not being a 'Layers' panel).

    Hi,

Just posting here my feedback about the vector tools.
When I'm drawing in vector I feel that the nodes sometimes are generated not very well and I spend a good time just to adjust and remove these nodes, you guys can check my youtube videos and see that this also happens with the IPAD Pro even using Apple pencil,  I think there can be an option to apply a sort of cleaner of nodes to reduce these points, or during the drawing, a better way to optimize these nodes generated automatically. I think this example attached can make sense about my feedback.

    thanks,

The problem is that you can not transform the object by dragging the transform handles if you are zoomed in or the object is just very big. Would be great if you could resize by dragging the edge of the object.

I am just saying, that my first impression of Studio Link was way better, than the actual experience after playing with it. The "Edit in Publisher" menu item will definitely help.

MadMak got a reaction from Move Along People in Publisher-Designer-Photo interoperability?
I think Studio Link is kind of misleading. At first I thought, that if I choose Publisher as a main app for my workflow, I will get all the features of other apps, so I don't need to start every of them, but as it discovered, that's only partially true, because Photo and Designer personas inside Publisher doesn't have all the features of corresponding standalone apps.

Is there an option to open file in Publisher if you work in Designer or Photo? Also, while in Publisher, if you choose Designer or Photo persona, other personas like Export persona are missing. Any plans to get them integrated without starting Designer and Photo separately?

MadMak reacted to ashf in SVG export: Unifying shape data
Adobe Illustrator unifies multiple shapes that is identical(Symbol) into single data when export SVG.
This makes SVG a lot smaller.
Would be nice if you could implement this.

Also an option for simplifying shapes will be useful like SVGO's Precision option or AI's Decimal option.

I agree. AD should get some improvements regarding web-design features.
As a workaround you can try https://jakearchibald.github.io/svgomg/ to optimize your exported icons.

Hi! First ... I apologize for my bad English.
Well ... I'm a big enthusiast of Afinnity Design ... But ... Lately I've been having problems with SVG exported. Nowadays to have a light website it is necessary to use SVG instead of PNG. Of course! My clients pay me to have a beautiful and super light website. The big problem is the way Affinity writes its output XML / SVG code. It is slightly larger than the Illustrator code (more significantly if you think of an entire site with many SVGs. The sum of all SVGs makes a big impact on the final upload performance of the site). The worst are the Strokes. When you have an icon for example drawn only with strokes it gets overly heavy. And it got a little worse on Affinity 1.7. The same icon made in Affinty has 99.4k while in Illustrator has 2.49k. For graphic designers this is irrelevant but for a webdesigner or UX / UI designers it is essential! The tamnhao in KB of SVG is VERY important. Open the files I've attached to the notepad and see the difference between the codes generated by Affinity and Illustrator. Please correct this problem! I hate working in Illustrator! It's heavy, horrible interface! Late software with style 10 years ago ... But I'll be forced to go back to it if Affinity does not give me the chance that my files will be light because that's what I need to offer my clients.
    Thank you!

LOL, I actually forgot about Adobe until I had a need for a Distortion, Warp, or Perspective distort for a vector project I am working on.  I never realized I would miss them that much. I am very surprised that Serif has not incorporated these features by now.

If Affinity Designer would have it's own Viewer App or Service for measuring sizes and distances and copying CSS properties, we wouldn't have to rely on PSD exports anymore. My workflow is like: Designer (Illustrator until I switched) >> PSD Export >> Avocode / Zeplin.

It would be so much better if it was Affinity Designer >> Affinity Viewer.

    Done.

MadMak reacted to rui_mac in Mask layer adjustments
I have been telling, from the very beginning, when Affinity Photo was still in beta, that masks are simply greyscale images and, so, everything that is possible to do with a greyscale image should also be possible to do with masks (painting, smearing, dodging, burning, applying filters, etc)
I was told that, internally, in Affinity Photo, masks are not really greyscale images.
But, even if they are not, the average user (and even the professionals) assume that masks are simply greyscale images, because that is how they are displayed and that is how all applications that deal with masks present them.
The main thing preventing me to work almost 100% of the time in Affinity Photo, instead of using Photoshop is exactly the way Affinity Photo deals with alpha channels and additional (spare) channels. It is so much more complicated and limited than with Photoshop. Photoshop deals with additional channels (and that includes alpha channels) in a such straightforward way that is a real pain assuming that I can do the same with Affinity Photo... and I can't

I even created a few videos showing this:

I'd like to make Adjustments like Levels, Brightness/Contrast etc. on a Mask Layer, to reduce edge fringes. It is obviously possible to put Adjustments under the Mask, but they seem to have no effect. Is it me, or is this a restriction or bug?
    Thanks a lot!
