Just updated to ver. 1.8.3.641 this morning and immediately saw this problem. Hope a fix is coming soon.

Remember when Adobe Indesign 1.0 came out? It had certain features which its main rival QuarkXpress 4.0 lacked and vice versa. A couple of important features InD lacked were the ability to place type on a path and the creation of tables. These were rectified in the 1.5 update a year later.
I feel the Affinity range is in this stage right now. Remember, Adobe (probably) spends more on advertising and promotion than Serif does overall. No doubt Serif's game plan is to get all the apps up to the same 1.7 level and take on new features from there.
AAMOF, I do remember that event. And when ver. 1.5 was released I was finally able to make the switch from PM and QX to InD.
I have the same feeling of excitement regarding AD that I had about InD. It was a revolutionary tool. I totally enjoy AD!

I'm new to AD and the beta program, so maybe this phenom has already been reported (I did try to search for it).
Create new views and undock them. When switching to another app, the undocked floating windows stay on top.
The only way to unclutter the screen is to minimize each undocked window.

I got the same error last night. I created a new artboard, When I used the Artboard tool, clicked on the AB name and dragged it to reposition it, the error dialog popped up. Windows asked to shut down AD, I said yes. When I restarted AD, it asked if I want to open a recovered file, I said yes. Tried to reproduce the crash by using the AB tool and dragging the artboard name, but all worked fine.
I can't remember when in the crash/shut down/reopen process, but AD did send an error report back to HQ.

I'm interested in what your troubleshooting discovers as all my Affinity programs (Designer, Photo & Publisher on Win10) slow to an unusable crawl, if I have the apps open for some time.
I generally have to shut all apps down and restart them to clear things up. Sometimes Publisher refuses to shut down nicely (Not Responding).
I just checked and my load time for Publisher is about 40 sec.
BTW, I use Avira Anti-Virus.
