  1. NIce Job how long did it take you to complete the plan? It is quite detailed.
  2. Hi Flaz, You offer a great point. I guess my thinking was that publisher is at the last stage of the process where writers and editors will spend more of their time producing the collective pieces of photography and illustrations. perhaps a simple document is the best solution. but I didn't not want to go with that because I did not want the idea of just magazines, journals and single written documents being the only things be produced in publisher. I guess really the key factor of publisher is that it the main tool for creating multipage documents or spreads. Yah I guess something are what they are maybe I over thought it. as for size I never heard that complaint before ... :o :P ;) All joking aside I was to lazy to scale it down and the same export linked somewhere else wear I liked it to be bigger.
  3. I believe what what you are asking can be achieved by clicking on the line option clicking on pressure and adjusting the profile of the stroke.
  4. Yes, I jumping on the art board appreciation bandwagon. I am patient and I am not rushing you I just glad it on "board" for implementation at some point.
  5. Thank you Raskolnikov :) I like them more vivid too. good suggestion. the recolor tool makes that an easy change. Anyway, for all those screaming updates and tweaks I don't think we have anything to worry about in that area. This company seems very clear about their mission. I don't think this topic is going to take away any resources from this already fabulous tool. ;) This thread nothing more than few opinion and suggestions. For some of us users (like myself) it just another sand pit to play in while learning this tools in and outs.
  6. Hmmm interesting thread. I been wrapped up in the application itself I didn't think to deeply about the Logo. I love to hear the Affinity Design teams thoughts on how they came to the logo design they have. It is obvious the triangular affinity symbol is the base of all the designs. I always find it interesting how the passion of community can be passionate about the branding of the tool they use. You guys are onto something magical with this application. Anyway here my rough spin of the logo design.
  7. I just sat down and I am spending some time with the brushes pallet. I just realizing that there was more than one category. duh lol
  8. Thank you for explaining your technique. I am looking forward to your next critter. I might try and create one of my own. You've inspired...
  9. Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

    1. Patchwork

      Patchwork

      Good question!! XD

  10. Tonight I decided to see if I could render an entire product in AD using basic illustration techniques. The following image was complete created with AD the only thing I did not create was the logo. which I could have but it was late and I ran out of steam. It is simple but elegant product. The more I tinker in AD the easier it gets. You can pretty much illustrate anything in this application you just need to focus on understanding lights, shadows and how light falls off a given material to get it right. I used a image from google as reference to create this. *tip: create palette from document is your best friend when matching colors of an existing product.
  11. Though you can not import this file format, there is a work around for getting your illustrator color pallet into your Affinity document. 1. Take a selective screenshot of just the color pallet in your illustrator document 2. Import the jpg of that color pallet into a new Affinity document. 3. open the affinity designer swatches panel. 4. click on the little option pull down in the upper right hand side of the swatches panel 5. Choose > the create palette from document 6. then after Affinity designer creates your pallet of colors go back to options and give your palette a name. All the colors you use will be available to you in your document. IT won't have all the actual names of the swatches but the colors will be at least available to you. This work around will only work for solid colors, unfortunately it won't work for gradients. I hope that helps until that functionality gets implemented. Good Luck!
  12. I love your style! I have a question. How do you get noise in your gradation? Thanks :)
  13. Update! So, I don't know how many of you actually have take your work to print but I can assure you the quality in the output is there that was of any question. I have a large format printer and I did a A3 size print and I have to tell you it looks beautiful and is true to the colors from my screen to print which was RGB. I do have have my computer synced with my Canon 9000pro printer profile so take that with a grain of salt. You mileage may vary but if it does it will not because Affinity output was not up to par. Can't wait to give this to my buddy.
  14. Thank You Meb! I appreciate your kind words. I like things to be clean and simple so thank you for acknowledging that in my work. :)
  15. You know I was a big fan of Adobe products for along time because of the "round tripping" ability between there apps. I am so glad to hear about this one file format approach between the future development of your applications! Put that darn clone tool where ever you want and take my damn money already lol. her enters my S#$! eating Grin :D!
  16. Thanks Katrin! So, the answer to your question is both. Have a nice day. Just kidding that doesn't tell you much does it haha. Yah, I hate it when people don't give more explanation. We are here to help each other. I guess it depends on the the look and style your going for. If you are going to embrace the whole this is digital art look then vector gradients is the way to go. if you are looking to have more organic control then like you would with a pencil then I suggest using the pixel persona brushes. For example I will refer to your dragon image which I like and I think you did a good job with. It looks like you drew your shapes and with a stroke and fill them next you took a vector brush and painted the highlight in one color then you painted the shadow in another color. all done in one persona. which is fine nothing wrong with that. Another approach would be to do the same thing and use the brush in the pixel persona for your shadow and highlights to shape them. Another technique would be to draw your shadows in the same color as the base color of your drawing( same green as your dragon) on a separate layer group that is on top of the base layer and set that groups layer mode to multiply which will darken. Alternatively for the highlights you do the same thing but set the layer mode to screen this will lighten the base image in these areas. Another method would be to place a layer below your drawing and paint the whole thing with the pixel base brushes like you do when you were a kid coloring in coloring books. I could go on about techniques and styles You see I battle with the same thing you do and I am still learning. There no right or wrong way to do it really a stylistic choice sometimes it just a form of self expression. Your creating art so do what best for you. But If you want something to look like a particular style like I have done here (comic book style) then you need to research the techniques people use to " ink and color" in this style. Youtube is a best friend for research! I hope that helped. -Ronnie
  17. So, my buddy who is a big time comic book geek was going off about how there is going to be a Superman Vs Batman Movie. Anyway, every time we chat about comics I always confuse which superheros is in Marvels universe and which superheroes are from the D.C. universe. Anyway, Today was his Birthday so I decided to make him some original art. He is a big Batman fan so I thought this would be fitting. My process is still the same. sketch on paper. shoot it, import it, trace it, and color it.
  18. I am curious to know what type of "Design" are you interested in learning? This is a tool but depending on what you want to learn you might use this tool differently.
  19. Hahahahaha OMG, I am so not going to update to yo-suckerery any time soon. I don't want to introduce new headaches in my life. Leave it to apple to "think different". We never thought it meant everytime we have a OS update will zigg left when you got use to zagging right lol @Raskolnikov thx for confirming my crazy is to the left....to the left.. the exit screen button is in the box to the left.... ~ beyonce ;)
  20. What tool gets up on a Saturday to read question section of an application then gets excited when he hears a tip like cmd+J or cheers when he can change the layer color to any color in the color pallet spectrum! Yah, this guy! SMH lol
  21. Wow this sick style. I would love to see how you go about creating your work with the pixel brushes are any of your brushes custom? I need to tinker with the pixel vs the vector brush settings?
  22. I love the texture in this one. Nice Job!
  23. So, I was browsing the Iphone App Store and came across this beautiful Dieter Rams inspired app called WTHR By David EIgena. I wanted see if I could recreate one of the screen entirely with Affinity Designer. Part of the reason I am doing this, is to see how I can utilize Affinity in different situations and workflows. Of course I don't have time to design an entire app for in a few hours but I can recreate the look for study purposes.Doing this sort of thing shows me where Affinity Designer is strongest. Working in different workflows also gives me a better understanding of how this application can replace other tools in my arsenal. After completing this exercise, the only thing I would wish is the ability to add multiple artboards in one file. Everything was created with Affinity with the exception of the IPhone Image which you can download here: http://www.teehanlax.com/tools/iphone/ Credit to Andrew Vega for supplying the iphone link resource in his Affinity training video
