NBG got a reaction from GenewalDesign in Canva
We need Affinity Video!
But not the Affinity suite flooded with "Canva" design assets or something like Dreamweaver...

NBG reacted to Ash in Affinity is joining the Canva family
Hi All,
I am thrilled to announce that Affinity is joining the Canva family.
This is a moment of great excitement, anticipation, and profound gratitude for all of you who have been part of our story so far.
We know that those of you who’ve put your faith in Affinity, some since we launched our very first Mac app, will have questions about what this means for the future of our products. Since the inception of Affinity, our mission has been to empower creatives with tools that unleash their full potential, fostering a community where innovation and artistry flourish. We've worked tirelessly to challenge the status quo, delivering professional-grade creative software that is both accessible and affordable.
None of that changes today.
In Canva, we’ve found a kindred spirit who can help us take Affinity to new levels. Their extra resources will mean we can deliver much more, much faster. Beyond that, we can forge new horizons for Affinity products, opening up a world of possibilities which previously would never have been achievable.
Canva’s revolutionary approach to design democratisation and commitment to empowering everyone to create aligns perfectly with our core values and vision. This union is a testament to what can be achieved when two companies that share a common goal of making design accessible and enjoyable for everyone come together.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to our incredible Affinity team. Your passion, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence have been the driving force behind our success so far, and I can’t wait to continue this journey with you all.
To our loyal users and the creative community, your support and feedback have been invaluable. You’ve inspired us to push boundaries and continuously improve, and we’re excited to embark on this new chapter together.
The future is bright, and I am incredibly excited to continue our story together and create a world where design is within everyone's reach.
With heartfelt thanks,
Ash
For more information...
We have made four pledges to the Affinity community which you can read here. We have included some FAQs at the bottom of the announcement article here. A video message from me with some more background is on YouTube here. This announcement post is locked, but I have included a duplicate of it in the questions forum here which you can respond to.

NBG reacted to Intuos5 in Raster perspective and mesh warp live filters added to Designer
That is a clear explanation on the matter, thanks! Unfortunately, I'm a bit confused still on the scope of the new feature still.
I wasn't exactly sure which way this was supposed to be working (or how it was implemented in general). I think I understand now that this just concerns the live adjustment filters. But it appears I can only apply the effect, dismissing the window doesn't add the live adjustment it as it does in Photo:
2023-02-15 18-18-27.mp4 Windows 10.0.19045.2486 (22H2), Affinity Designer 2.1.0.1706.
What good does the warp group do in the Pixel persona then? I can't seem to use this on any raster layers nor placed documents. Couldn't it be replaced with the live filter the way I accessed it in Photo previously? To me it appears a bit redundant now.

That was also the case I wanted to make in this topic:
If you apply a vector warp from within Designer (with the Designer persona active) it would be nice if the tool were to determine whether the contents are raster or vector data. Ideally, placed PDFs should be treated as vectors.
It may be possible (from a users' perspective) to rename the tool to Warp group instead, so you could use it regardless of context type. Meaning the tool is context sensitive. For images, this is what happens now:
2023-02-15 16-27-25.mp4 And for placed vector documents, such as this SVG (I clipped it to a rectangle to get rid of some text below):
2023-02-15 16-30-44.mp4 And without clipping:
2023-02-15 16-32-10.mp4 Ideally, all of these should be working and the layer name (warp group) should indicate whether the result is a vector or raster.

NBG reacted to Ash in Designer 2: Warp for images too
Thanks for this feedback. We have now decided to include the raster based perspective and mesh warp non destructive live filters from Affinity Photo in the Pixel Persona of Designer and that is now available in the 2.1 beta released today. This allows the warping of images, embedded documents and other non-pure vector objects. The main thing to bear in mind is that these are raster based effects, and will mean any vector data you warp using these live filters will be rasterised when you come to export.
It would be great if you wanted to try it out in the beta and let us know what you think - you can sign up to the beta program here.

NBG got a reaction from Joakim Svensson in Designer 2: Warp for images too
The new warping options in AD2 are great but doesn't work with bitmap images (no matter if single images, images in groups or converted images into curves).
Feature request: add image support for warp! 🙂

NBG reacted to Zaxonov in I don't like the new UI design
Hi. I was excited by v2.0 but I really don't like the new UI design. The flat design feels like a multiplatform wobbly app that the Adobe suite had become...
I felt like the v1.0 UI design felt more robust.
What do you think?

NBG reacted to spidermurph in V2 Pros & Cons
Having used V2 for a short time I have a few comments on the bits I have tried.
PROS
The startup assistant screen is better now (almost as good as the Serif Plus one)
The Export preview is much better (as good as the Serif Plus one)
The Layers panel seems more versatile.
The style picker seems quite good but not much different to Paste FX and styles that we had before.
The Shape builder is handy (also a feature from Serif Plus range) but not much different to the boolean tools we already have.
Vector Warp is nice. (also a feature from Serif Plus range)
Knife tool is good (also a feature from Serif Plus range)
CONS
No bitmap trace (also a feature from Serif Plus range)
No Mesh Fill (also a feature from Serif Plus range)
No gestures for touchscreen users
No flood fill tool (also a feature from Serif Plus range)
No Blend/Morph tool
No AI tools
No 3D tools
No Android support
I know I bang on about SerifPlus products. But they were made by this company and had many of these features over 10 years ago.
I know the Affinity range is built on a new engine and has to accommodate Mac and iPad now.
But we have been waiting for 8 years for Affinity to catch up with features, they and most other software have had for years.
I'm hoping we see some of this appear in updates very soon.

NBG reacted to loukash in Designer V2: Warp only for vector elements, not images?
As a workaround until Serif gets it straight, er, warped, you may want to work with image placeholders first. Then switch to APh and warp a copy of the actual bitmap manually to match the placeholder.
I haven't tested it yet but I was already thinking about this workflow yesterday. In theory, it should work.
Another workaround would be to trace the bitmap image.
Oh, wait…

NBG got a reaction from Adalbertus in Designer V2: Warp only for vector elements, not images?
Hi,
i tried to recreate this https://youtu.be/QS3PrrOHJIs?t=627 with an image - it doesn't work.
So if i want to warp an album art including an image i can't do the same effect with AD?!

NBG reacted to tmarq in Designer V2: Warp only for vector elements, not images?
I was a bit disappointed too... The warp feature is awesome but it would be even better if it worked with any object groups, no matter the content.
I hope they include this on further updates.

You mean like Illustrator can do?

NBG reacted to Zero Zero in Extremely disappointed that this installs as an "App" and not regular software program
Just bought the Suite and could not find the installation files so was unable to create shortcuts and worse unable to find a way to run the software! The only way I could launch the software was to double-click on the downloaded installation files which gave me the option to Launch from there. Total irritation and confusion.
However in the meantime after much faffing about through the Forum I discovered to my dismay that these are "App" files and do not install into the Program folder of my C drive and do not appear in my Programs & Features... How do I uninstall them?
I absolutely hate this unexplained change to installing/removing software and am not happy with the way this has been implemented, particularly as no advanced notification (as far as I could tell) was given.
I very much like what Serif is doing with Affinity and love the software but cannot stand this insane change to the standard installation procedure.
Please Serif fix this unwanted installation mess asap. and please retain some independence from the dumbing-down that Micro$oft continually applies to Windows in the so-called attempt to make it better.
I sincerely hope you listen.

NBG got a reaction from maccesch in New export file formats (JPEG 2000, JPEG XR, and WebP)
No. We wanna use it NOW! For browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) WHO support it.
We don't want to way until Apple wakes up and don't BLOCKS WebP anymore...

It's no "hype"! It makes my website much faster saving 25-50% of original jpg size.
