penwiper reacted to Herojas93 in iPhone 6 BLACK updated
Thanks very much for the advice.
Yes I used AD Beta, sorry.
The video was very helpfull.
I'll try to find the best way to do the glass and shine effect at screen.
I'm with you, I don't like very much that 3D finishing for that purpose.
One more thing, I found some issues with graphics performance of my laptop doing the design.
I'm using a MacBook PRO late 2013 with an IRIS PRO GRAPHICS CARD.
I had some lags, slow graphics rendering... Etc
It's normal due my Mac or I can have any wrong option at AD setting configuration?
Thanks for the support

The update feels more complete than the first image; I think the purple color glow change in the background and transparent lettering in the bottom of the fonts helped quite a bit to tie it together. The letters don't look quite so pasted on. :-) I wonder if you could make some wind trails from the top of the triangles' tips to add in even more movement?

penwiper reacted to motoko in Some recent work
Ha ha... Thanks guys. I've been drawing on and off for the better part of my life, but had a six year break while I was focusing on music. Just recently picked up my pens again.
I've thinking about woodcut and lino's but wanted to build up some solid foundation with the pens and markers first. So far I've been primarily working with paper, pigma microns and design markers. But I'm looking into getting started with brush pens / brushes and ink and working on canvas with acrylic markers as well.
As for AD I'm looking forward to getting more into coloring. Analog inking and digital coloring. I really like the workflow in AD and feel I can pick up pretty quickly.

penwiper reacted to ronnyb in Why are "personas" even needed in the AD workspace?
I welcome Personas as a way to organize tool sets based on workflows. AD is such a versatile piece of software that having these Persona's allows an uncluttered U, more access to more of the user's content, and less wasted space on "grey pixels" for the interface. That being said...
It might be interesting to explore the idea of USER-defined Personas, in addition to the standard personas, as a way to keep disparate tools together for specialized workflows...

Tutorial please for how you make your stamps also? This looks so cool! I love printmaking . . . :-) Stamps are just another printmaking device, after all. Thanks for sharing!

Here's my next villain, Doctor Fu Manchu. I've been listening to a free audio book via "Classic Tales" podcast featuring him as a character.
"Imagine a person, tall, lean and feline, high-shouldered, with a brow like Shakespeare and a face like Satan, a close-shaven skull, and long, magnetic eyes of the true cat-green. Invest him with all the cruel cunning of an entire Eastern race, accumulated in one giant intellect, with all the resources of science past and present, with all the resources, if you will, of a wealthy government--which, however, already has denied all knowledge of his existence. Imagine that awful being, and you have a mental picture of Dr. Fu-Manchu, the yellow peril incarnate in one man." (The Insidious Dr. Fu Manchu Chap. 2)
Even though I loved my initial sketch, I couldn't use it because it didn't match too well with the character description. I like my sketch better honestly, but I do think the vector turned out fairly well. I got the brocade pattern from an online resource.
It's so much easier to come up with male villains' names...

penwiper reacted to A_B_C in Layer clipping vs layer masking
Hi bboysupaman,
please have a look at my video linked below (Clipping_vs_Masking.mov).
In (A.) the pink rectangle (or rather square) gets clipped to the boundaries (path) of the blue triangle, and this is done by making the rectangle a child of the triangle in the layers list. This is called "layer clipping".
In (B.) the rectangle acts as a mask applied to the triangle, and this is done by dragging the thumbnail of the rectangle directly onto the thumbnail of the triangle in the layers list. (Note the differences between the blue highlight bars appearing while the list entries are dragged to their respective positions.) Now it is not the rectangle that gets clipped to the boundaries of the triangle, but the rectangle clips (or cuts) parts of the triangle. This is called "creating a vector mask".
Hope you get the difference …
Kind regards, Alex

Take a person out of a picture and putting it in another picture is probably one of the hardest things to do in an image editing application. The fact that I can do this inside a vector application excites me! You use to have to go back and forth from Photoshop to illustrator to do this while combining your vector and pixel workflows is just amazing.
I am really digging this hybrid approach to design and image creation! There just not enough hours in the day! Thank You Affinity for putting the fun back into the game! I can't waitto see what the future of this application has in store for us!

I think honestly my computer was not having fun toward the end of this drawing. When I'd clip things I'd have bits of the original sections version disappear but not all the way. *sigh*. Still, it came out fairly well all things considered.
"When they entered the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom they found Professor Umbridge already seated at the teacher’s desk, wearing the fluffy pink cardigan of the night before and the black velvet bow on top of her head. Harry was again reminded forcibly of a large fly perched unwisely on top of an even larger toad." Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix by JK Rowling.
I've never watched the movies, so my impressions are solely book based on this one. She's got on a more "traditional" robe and hat in this image mainly because I can't see her NOT wearing a robe. Also she has a cat with her so I think this portrait must be prior to her Hogwarts DADA stint.

Oh wow, super nice. I love the simple colors in this. I wish the UFO was a little more detailed, but I can see why you would leave it like it is, so I'm on the edge about that one. I wouldn't want too much more. :-) I love your character too, nice highlights and shadows.

Okay! So I have finished drawing my first lady villain; Cruella de Vil was a LOT of fun to draw. I loved the Disney movie as a kid and I am ashamed to say that I have not read the book, although I just picked it up to read on an online library. That'll happen maybe later on today. :-)
"A large car was coming towards them. .... A woman came out onto the front-door steps. She was wearing a tight fitting emerald satin dress, several ropes of rubies, and an absolutely simple white mink cloak, which reached to the high heels of her ruby-red shoes. She had dark skin, black eyes with a tinge of red in them, and a very pointed nose. Her hair was parted severely down the middle and one half of it was black and the other white-- rather unusual." 101 Dalmations, Dodie Smith
I've taken a couple of liberties because I felt they worked better with the design; namely, the coat and the hair. I'm still rather pleased with how this turned out, though.
Also, this is a call for female villains from literature. I'd like some more ideas; I have a few-- Shine, from Archer's Goon by Diana Wynne Jones (plus a few others; DWJ had a THING about evil older ladies due to mother issues of her own, apparently), the Medusa, Belatrix Black or Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter, and the infamous principal Agatha Trunchbull of Matilda's school by Roald Dahl, and the Winter Queen from the Dresden series too, perhaps. Anyway, critiques welcome! More villains to come later.

You could move the bird that's by the "e" in Sometimes and move it between the 't' and 's' in its after adding a bit of space between those two letters. Bingo, you have the apostrophe and still have the bird above the text.
Grammar can be creative. :D
Nice pix, btw. Really like the overall shape and the textures of the ground triangle.

This looks very good! One problem, though, and this may have been deliberate given the lack of caps letters, but "its" should be "it's" because it is a contraction-- or just break it up into "it is" which might look better. I like the simplicity of this, however. :-) (Sorry, I am the eternal editor thanks to my Mom's English teaching. It was sad, walking down the hallway of the art building and seeing graphic posters from fellow students posted on the wall and mentally correcting things... at least this is not printed yet [i hope?] so it is easy to fix.)
Feel free to work on whatever makes you happy, but please share more of your designs! For instance, I am working on a set of compass roses, hopefully 30 of them, that are nontraditional. My icon is an early compass rose as an example. Cheers!

Just trying out AD...
Have been drawing maps for twenty years in FreeHand. As now on OSX 10, no FreeHand :( .
Can't get on with Illustrator and hate the idea of paying Adobe every month so thought I would have a play.
So attached my first quick draft. Really like AD, very quick to pick up. Somethings that did not jump out at me, a quick look on YouTube and job done.
So far, only a couple of items missing that are essential to allow me to migrate fully:
Text on a path. Essential for road names going around a curve especially if inside the text is inside the path. Dotted lines - wanted the footpaths to be dotted but no joy. Otherwise looking good and reading the forums, these items are on the roadmap - thanks AD
Couple of things notice that are an issue but not deal breakers (unless I missed it):
Only single page documents allowed. Fonts, quite a few of my fonts such as Zapf Dingbats, WebDings and FontAwesome not rendering - just getting square text boxes. Anyway - looking good Serif
Suitably impressed

So here's a little dude I drew during a lecture at school maybe last year? When I was moving I took photos of all the doodles in my school notes I wanted to keep because I had to throw the rest of the papers away due to space constraints. So I found the photo again and wanted to do something with it and thought of Affinity.
I played around with a lot of the new things I've been learning with Affinity. All vector except for the textures which I found online copyright free. Not sure about the swirls in the sky, but it needed something....
Anyway he's what I was working on just before bringing in the new year. :-)
