If it had a little more texture on it (and I'm not saying this is a good or bad thing one way or another) it would remind me of some of the landscapes in Samurai Jack. http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/24700000/Samurai-Jack-samurai-jack-24767891-900-682.jpg  <-- such as this.  :-)

I wish I could see a little bit more of the image-- my PC screen size is rather . . . underwhelming as far as pixels go. What I can see looks nice!

The only way I can think of right now is to use bitmap fills.  The Devs might be able to help more with that-- but basically what you do is you make a pattern and export it to PNG.  (Or, you know, just search for copyright free patterns online, but stupid Shutterstock keeps popping up anyway even when I define my searches in advance mode on Google so I try not to do that too much.)  Then, using the Gradient tool, select Bitmap from the fill option and find your file.  The size of the bitmap can then be adjusted by the handles that appear with the fill.

I've used this method a couple of times to make an interesting background pattern for some objects, then copied said object and used a gradient level on the copy to give it more depth, but you have to be sure the shape is exactly the way you want it because I don't think you can adjust nodes on separate layers to do the same thing.

I know what you're wanting though, and it would be cool . . . especially if it was completely vector-based.

I am not a professional artist or designer. I was just playing around with Affinity Designer one day, drawing some flowers and trees... and I got hooked! And now, I every time I see nice flowers or trees, I feel challenged and look forward to draw them.  I have a lot to learn about Affinity Designer and digital art drawing, but I am enjoying every moment of it.  So thank you so much! :D

Thanks guys for the kind comments. Really happy that you like the style and I'm looking forward to finish this one.

Only 4 more days until the christmas holiday where I hope to find time to finish it.

Yes, that is a not quite finished jetpack/engine. Every evening when we put the kids to bed we have a race from the livingroom to the bathroom to brush our teeth. And before we run we put on all kinds of "engines" to help us get there fast.

There is going to be a few small stories in the illustration like that.

So for my Grandmother's 95th birthday my family and I sent a package and I drew some simple flower doodles on the brown paper wrapping; apparently it was something she could see even with her bad eyesight.  Mom (who is taking care of her) threw away the paper by accident and wanted me to draw some more images, so this is one of the designs I have made for Grandma to replace the wrapping paper.  She'll get the original sharpie pen work, but I thought it would be worthwhile to try and design it in Affinity.  Here's my finished illustration.

This particular drawing might have too many fine details for her, but I have some other simpler drawings specifically with Grandma in mind that I'll be able to send to her later.

Also I REALLY love the history tab where you can scroll back and see all the changes to the Affinity Document itself.  Maybe I am easily impressed, but that is super cool.

It was a nice surprise to find the art brushes in Affinity Photo.  Here is a painting based on a couple of photos I took in Maine.  The work took about 3-4 hours.

The program could be better at painting with a couple of simple additions:
1    A good blender brush. Smudge and Blur aren't that useful for this.
2    A simple and easy way to change brush size without having to go to the slider
                      -  shortcut keys
                      -  control click and then drag to set size

A group or artists, including myself, all of whom are affiliated with a local art gallery, are collectively creating a set of alphabet illustrations for one of the people who works there. The alphabet collection is a gift for her soon-to-be-born child. Most of the works will be drawings or paintings on paper. I am one of the few people in the group working with digital illustration. I thought this would be a good project to give my new copy of Affinity Designer a try. Obviously my letter is "R". I still have plenty to learn, but I am truly enjoying working with AD so far.

Here's another design I created today.
It's some kind of stylized album cover named after a subway line in the city I live in.

It is a combination of both worlds - vectors and pixels.
Haha, please don't judge me, but lately I like to put a noise filter on top of everything else … makes everything look more real, more organic. As if it were printed on really thick, fibrous, high-quality paper.

    Hello All,

First attempt at Affinity Photo. I used a few tools in this example; Inpainting Brush Tool, Paint Brush Tool, and the Lighting Tool, amongst others. My favourite feature is definitely the lighting tool... So many possibilities!

Hope you like it, and thanks to Callum for the help.

    Cheers,
    Adam

I'm a brand new user, and have been enjoying Affinity Designer.

I haven't yet explored beyond the "Draw" Persona, but in many ways, the program hearkens back to the simplicity and power of the MacDraw / Claris Draw programs, but brought into a more modern world.

I've been playing around with geometric tilings. This design has hundreds if not thousands of curves and filled areas, and I haven't really run into any performance problems (yet).

I'm looking forward to seeing how far I can go with this!

So I joined an app on my phone called sktchy where people submit photos to provide inspiration to others, and members also draw from photos submitted to the app.

Here are some portraits I have drawn of people there in the last week with Affinity Designer.  It's a neat idea!   There's obviously a wide range of talent there, but that is part of the fun.

    Hi Matt, thanks.

Yes the client was quite happy with these. He did say he noticed a nice overall softness to them as compared to my usual work done in Ai and asked if I did them in photoshop. I had to come clean and tell him about Designer.  ;)  I try to do as much in Designer as I can these days and hand off a web or print res png or psd file unless a client specifically needs or requests an Ai file.

The Darth Vader helmet is really very spooky!  However from a distance in thumbnail size most of the contrast is lost in the gray and black, so perhaps I would try for a little more distinction between the two halves?  The Yoda design is also fairly intriguing and instantly recognizable (for a Star Wars fan), although I'd like for the lighting on it to remain consistent between the head and the angle of shadow on the wall.  :-)  I'd be curious about the other Star Wars logos.  Thanks for sharing!
