To change these values for the Crop Tool you must select Custom Ratio or Absolute Dimensions from the Mode dropdown on the left of the input fields (context toolbar).

They're greyed out. This shows that they are not editable.

 

No worries.  It would still be nice if they were editable, maybe using the center of the marquee tool the anchor point.  This would be useful when the goal is a specific pixel height and width.

It is confusing to see boxes with drop-down symbols that aren't editable.

 

[Moving Layer Behind Current Selection]

I'm checking out the features of in the Photo demo.

 

I see where I can resize the marquee by hitting Q for mask.  It would be nice to have the ability to select and work with the marquee and layers separately from each other.

After drawing an elliptical selection, I'd like to click on the Move Tool and move the layer underneath without moving the selection marquee.  I'm coming from Gimp where the current selection and layer can be moved around independently.  What logic am I missing here?
