  1. Hi all, I wanted to create a ring inside another ring, but only at the bottom. So I created both rings and wanted to place the bottom of the blue ring inside the larger green ring. This is what I did: Image#1 - Put blue ring on top of green ring in layer panel. Image#2 - Copied green ring and created throw-away shape. Used "Intersect" boolean command. Image#3 & #4 - Put resulting shape on top of layer stack Image#5 - I wanted to add gradient to the green ring but cannot because of the shape I created to block out the bottom on blue ring. Does anyone have any idea how I can add a gradient to the bottom green ring, without the shape I created blocking the blue ring out, affecting the gradient? Thanks for reading
  2. I had some questions about the pen tool in AD vs Graphic so I made a video. Hope it helps. https://youtu.be/Vno83vih8Fk
  3. I just made a video on how I use AD along with iDraw (now Autodesk Graphic) to create a certain type of line work (inking), inspired by a really amazing illustrator named Jason Seacrest. It’s my first video of this type so I hope it is ok and you all like it. https://youtu.be/SZQ9Ty1oldw
  4. Really great tutorial!!! Thanks for taking the time to do it and share!!!
  5. Thanks MEB. I look forward to the workarounds and improvements. If I could ask for one tool, it would be an erase tool in the Draw persona so it stays vector. :D
  6. Hi all, AD seems to be having problems merging all the pieces (expanded strokes) together. I made a short video of the problem. Any ideas? So frustrating to have app freeze like this :( Here is the link: https://youtu.be/SBQRDmLJzuc Thanks :)
  7. If I was to use the erase method, is there a way to not get a pixelated result? Is there a "erase" function in the DRAW persona?
  8. I thought that might be the case too but when I do the same technique with a small section, maybe one or two stroke pieces, it works fine. It makes me think there is something else going on. Another technique I use is to erase the section of the overlapping stroke (I actually prefer this method) but it pixelates the result. It must rasterize when I export to PDF. It's funny because when I do this in AI, or even Autodesk Graphic (formerly iDraw), it does not. Any ideas on how to use the erase tool and not have the resulting PDF rasterize or pixelate?
  9. Hi all, I am having some frustrations, which are probably due to my not knowing AD as well as I should ( I have searched and watched some AD videos thou), so I would like to ask for some help and clarification. In the past, using AI, I was able to create my characters with the pen tool, not worrying about overlapping corners, etc... I would then click on the various custom brushes I have created and apply that stroke (and width) to specific line work. Then, I would expand all the line work and delete the extra (overlapping) pieces to create clean corners. Then using live paint I could color in the various parts of the artwork. I have tried to do this in AD but can't seem to get the same workflow. First, I cannot apply a custom brushes (meaning I created the taper) to the line work. I have to do it via the pressure tab where I have to save the profile. Is this the only way? And is there a way to save the width in the profile? I also saved a version of the "brush" in the "Styles" panel but it did not give me consistent widths. Next, after I created my line work, I used the "convert to curves" function, then Layer > Expand Stroke. Then I used the "Divide" function to create individual pieces so I could delete all the extra pieces. After that I marque selected everything and used the "Add" function to unite all the pieces. Which seemed to take forever with a larger piece. Next, I went to the Pixel Persona to used the "Flood Fill" tool in the hope of coloring in the artwork but it doesn't work. The only way I got it to work was to rasterize it which defeated the whole purpose of trying to create a vector art piece. I found a youtube video that shows my workflow almost exactly. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sPuXmTLBj4 The only way I found to do this in AD was to create different parts of the character on different layers and use the standard fill and stroke tools in the Draw Persona. Ten I switched to the Pixel Persona to erase the extra overlapping line work. Yes it does the job but takes considerably longer and if mistakes are made, it takes a lot longer to correct than the method I am trying to figure out. Can someone please help me figure this out? Thanks :)
  10. Thanks for the reply. Having tried different things for the past few day I see that the way you suggest is the only way. It takes some changing of the workflow but it works. Thanks again.
  11. I am using the pen tool and have saved a style I like to use when I am tracing over my drawing. The problem is the line width is not consistent.I saved a 0.5 width. Some times it gives me the style width I saved and then sometimes it does not. The color is always correct, just not the width. Any ideas? Thanks
  12. I was wondering if there is a way to a eliminate stroke between 2 nodes of an object and still keep it filled? In Anime Studio Pro there is a tool that eliminates a stroke between 2 nodes of an object (say a ellipse for instance).
  13. I know this is the AD forum but wanted to get some feedback from people who have used this, especially compared to AD. I love AD but, because of work I am using a Windows system more and more. The vector illustration programs to choose from are AI, Drawplus, Corel, and Inkscape. I'd really prefer not to rejoin Adobe's CC, so that brings my choices to 3. Corel seems like a combination of AI and PS and the price tag is pretty steep. Will Drawplus catch up to AD? Any advice would be appreciated Thanks :-)
  14. Thanks all for the responses !
  15. Yes I agree as I have AD on my MAC, but when I am at work using Windows I need other software. I am considering DrawPlus, I just wish it exported psd (layered) files, thou the svg option might suffice.
  16. This might be a stupid question but since I know you can install windows on a mac, can you install mac on a windows system? The current system I am given to work on is the Surface Pro 4.
  17. Sorry, I should have specified. The jobs will be logo work for print and web, possibly some technical design illustrations, and some animations. On my mac I usually created the vector work in AD and export to either AE (CS6) or Anime Studio Pro to animate.
  18. Hi all, I can't seem to figure out how to delete extra pieces of line work. For instance, after overlapping strokes are created, how do you delete the extra pieces (or tails)? Any help would be greatly appreciated

A drawing - from start to finish

Amazing work!!. May I ask, what type of tablet are you using to draw, and I am in the market to buy one so any recommendations would be appreciated? Thanks
  20. Hi All, Not sure if this has been brought up or if I am posting in right place, but has there been any mention of making a version of AD for the iPad? The reason I ask is that I always found myself using the iPad version of iDraw when I was away from my desk. The files of the iDraw iPad version and desktop version sync nicely so I can always finish later on my desktop. This is also true of Adobes Line iPad app and Illustrator as far as I have read. I'm going to try it out later. Just wondering... Chris
  21. I have done limited vector work in Flash and one thing that struck me was how, using "Object mode" or more importantly having it turned off, enabled many functions like booleans, etc... without having to go to a menu. It was very freeing actually. I'm siting work by Chris Georgenes and some others when I say this. For example, in non-object mode, you can create a shape with the pen tool. Then you want to create shadowing. So you simply drawing a new shape (outline) over the area (say an oval) and click on new area, fill it with a new color using bucket tool, then delete the oval outline. No menus or boolean tools. Seems very "freeing" I was wondering what others thought of this workflow. I never used Freehand but everyone seems to have loved the implementation of its' toolset (especially compared to Illustrator). I wonder if it wasn't more like Flash. I can make a couple of short videos showing what I mean if that helps
  22. Hi all, I did not see these features on the Roadmap so I was wondering how people are handling this. I want to create some seamless patterns and also I wanted to create a graphic and have it placed along a path. For instance to create a rope - create one segment and have it repeat over the bezier curve I created. And, yes I know there is an brush image of a rope but I wanted to create something different. Thanks
  23. Just a cartoony city...cheesy I know :)
