Comic Book Toolkit
It is really about building a comic Toolkit rather than Template in Publisher. Just wanted to see how feasible it is... Used images from Inktober and Untamed as they are a mix of vector and raster images + can create pages | panels in AD and just place!
Still some work to do yet but it is getting there! Still a lot of assets to add
The test template (below) was built in Publisher but a lot of the layouts could also be constructed in Designer.

This is my first drawing using Affinity Designer 2.0 (A revamped version of the colourful Lena which I have not uploaded!)
It is really a test of the updates made to the Brush Dynamics in Affinity 2.0
Created a new set of inking brushes that makes use of interpolation and the new Distance options with the brush dynamics. I have found that the brushes are much smoother, faster and more responsive..I really like the ability of 'Distance' to allow for the tapering of the nozzle. Even though you have to adjust the direction of the graph!

Which reminded me that years ago, I made me a note in the MacOS "Notes.app", calculating my Adobe purchases over the years since 2003 until 2016. That was to figure out if an upgrade to CC is worth it. (Spoiler: It wasn't.) My note with the calculation is still there in the app, as I see right now:
CHF 29 a month for 13 years usage of Adobe products.
That was:
Adobe "Design Collection" in 2003 = ID2, AI10, PS7, AC (v5 or 6 I guess?) = CHF 2145 a few years later individual CS3 upgrades to each app above, which was cheaper than buying the CS bundle upgrade! = CHF 404+310+435+435 and another few years later individual CS5.5 upgrades including a Black Friday discount! = CHF 245.2+245.2+245.2 Now, I have fully switched to Affinity by end of 2020, so my final Adobe costs calculation 2003–2020 is as follows:
(2145+404+310+435+435+245.2+245.2+245.2)/17/12 ≈ CHF 21.90/month
Fast forward to 2022 and what I have paid for Affinity v2 Universal License: "whopping" CHF 100 incl. VAT.
Estimated duration of usage until v3 might be released, let's say 3 years: 100/3/12 ≈ WHOPPING CHF 2.80 A MONTH!
That means I'll have to sacrifice at least two bottles of my beloved Pilsner Urquell each month! How can I possibly survive THAT?!

I haven't given the new brush engine a good try yet. I usually ink in another program, but I've been trying the brushes (during v1) for pattern-making. There's some nice wet media/ink options...

StuartRc reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity V1 Suite, Updates on All Platforms [1.10.6 on Windows, 1.10.7 on iOS & 1.10.8 on macOS]
We are pleased to announce version 1.10.6/7/8 updates for the Affinity Suite on all platforms.
Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher (on macOS, Windows, and iOS) had all recently been affected by recent operating system releases such as the launch of macOS Ventura, iOS 16 and Windows 10 and 11 updates. We have mitigated some of these in the 1.10.6 patches of all applications on all platforms. The changes fix/avoid the problems introduced by operating system changes thus returning earlier functionality.
If you are using Windows 10 or 11, macOS Ventura (13.x) or iOS 16 then we recommend installing these updates. Other supported operating systems can install the update without issue, but they have no specific advantages/fixes over 1.10.5 for your OS.
If you are on macOS Sonoma, the the 1.10.8 patch has a specific fix we would recommend you get
1.10.8 (on macOS only) is a single fix patch to address this Light UI issue on Sonoma UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (for existing V1 customers)
Updates on macOS for Affinity Store Purchases
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, for example Affinity Photo > About...).
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update, or in the application main menu there is an option Check for Updates. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there.
Alternatively the full Affinity Store installers are also available here:
Affinity Photo on macOS: All Affinity Store builds of Affinity Photo for macOS can be downloaded from this link Affinity Designer on macOS: All Affinity Store builds of Affinity Designer for macOS can be downloaded from this link Affinity Publisher on macOS: All Affinity Store builds of Affinity Publisher for macOS can be downloaded from this link =========================================================================
Updates on macOS through the Mac App Store
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu for example, Affinity Photo > About...).
If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.

Updates on Windows for Affinity Store Purchases
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (for example in Help > About...).

Updates on Windows through the Microsoft Store
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (for example in Help > About...).
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.

Updates on iPads
The software version can be seen on the corner of Preferences screen.
Your Affinity iPad apps should update automatically next time you run them. However, you do need to be logged in with the same Apple ID you used to buy them.
If the automatic update does not happen for you, go to the iPad App Store app and go to Updates. Once you’re there, tap near the top of the screen where it states 'Updates' and then hold, pull down and then release. This should manually refresh the updates page. However, don’t contact us if the updates are not available for you yet—Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world and this can take up to 24 hours.

🤣 All this whining over the pricing just cracks me up. And really misses the point...
The truth is Serif should pay me to use their software!
After all, I'm investing my time, using my hard drive space, consuming my electricity ... I could go on and on. Seriously(not), why should I have paid even the ridiculous give-away price I did for the v1 software since it wasn't absolutely perfect? And why should I pay another ridiculously-low price for the seriously-upgraded and still not absolutely perfect software? I mean $99 USD for all three apps available to me on all three platforms? C'mon! Look, I don't have to take this! Ad0be is having a sale! I can just go other there and plop down $480 bucks for an entire year! OK, I'm a little short on funds, so I'll just pay the $82 a month. 'Cause ... math. And when I stop paying for that software, it'll still work fine, I just won't get any updates. Am I right or what?!
</sarcasm>
OK, sorry. Silly rant over. It's just frustrating because the Affinity suite is the best alternative to Goliath and their hideous subscription model, and it's dirt cheap no matter how you slice it.
That said, Serif must improve certain things if they want to continue to grow and/or remain competitive. This is the golden hour, the absolute best time for them to gain (and keep) serious market share, something I think we all want to happen. Pricing (new or upgrade) is not the issue for them, or us. It is getting the basics right. This forum and the V1 forum are full of examples of the basics being missed. I am a huge supporter, and I want very much to see this endeavor succeed. However, the vitriol many hold towards Ad0be means the field is wide open for someone to step in with a more solid offering. For me, I'm cheering on the Serif team and hoping they'll be the ones to slay the giant.
Cheers.

StuartRc reacted to Maksimus in Disgusting pricing
Actually I do not agree with the author of this topic.
I used to be surprised that such a wonderful and complex software like Affinity Photo could cost $50 for a program. It's too cheap.
The same Photoshop, when it was not a subscription, cost several hundred dollars.
Therefore, when the cost was increased a little, it became more relevant to the features and functions that Affinity provides.
Remember also that Serif is a business, not a charity. The company has its own rising costs. Also consider what is going on in the world.
The dollar, pound and euro have depreciated heavily over the past year. Inflation is about 10%.
So if all this is put together in a place, then the price offer of Affinti products is very generous and worthy.
P.S. For example, only one program Capture One (RAW converter) costs $300. And it has much narrower functionality.

StuartRc reacted to Pyanepsion in My Feedback: THANK YOU
I was also apprehensive about re-setting the workspace. The setup was actually relatively quick, as I had prepared it on version 1 (colour palette, keyboard shortcut, paragraph and character style palette). The brushes and content had all been installed when I installed version 2.
I'm on my third book with version 2, including a travel guide with several hundred images and lots of notes. The work is much faster and better than with version 1. Even better, copying the final text into Word from Affinity Publisher to make a digital book with Jutoh is much easier than with version 1.

StuartRc reacted to md_germany in My Feedback: THANK YOU
Dear Affinity Team,
At the beginning I was a bit disappointed by Affinity Suite 2.0, as everyone expected the implementation of their personal wishes. The changeover was not entirely smooth either, I had to make some presettings by hand and my workspace had completely disappeared. But: I created the first brochure and other things in versions 2.0 on the Mac and am thrilled by many functions, some of which are not documented at all. So a big THANK YOU for the great work and the good price. Keep it up!

StuartRc reacted to Graphicon in Performance Issues - V.2 - lagging Brush flow/frame rate
Eureka! While this did not completely alleviate the lag... it did improve the flow significantly. I can not take credit for the idea... this article was posted in the Affinity Designer Facebook Group. I thought my system was completely up-to-date... turned out there is an option to update to 22H2... here's the article. Hopefully it's helpful for you as well.
Again... this did not resolve the issue completely... but it has helped enough to render it workable.

This is one my side projects for 2022. I run a FaceBook group on the BOAC Speedbird aircraft and "The BOAC Speedbird Adverts" book which contains 133 rare adverts (B&W and colour) from 1940-1970. The adverts were cleaned up using Affinity Photo and the cover was put together with Affinity Designer and of course the book was put together using the Affinity Publisher.

StuartRc reacted to VectorWhiz in Art Nouveau practice
I've always been attracted to Art Nouveau imagery, particularly that of the brilliant Alphonse Mucha, who is largely accredited for starting that appealing type of graphic art. I wanted to wrap my mind around the specific aspects of the craft of which this practice drawing is the first attempt. I plan to do more Art Nouveau all vector drawings in the future, unlike this image that contains both vector and bitmap embedded files. Technically this image is some sort of blend of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, the latter being the successor of the first art movement, I guess.
More on Mucha and Art Nouveau in my portfolio blog: https://communicats.blogspot.com/2022/11/art-nouveau-practice-drawing-01.html
