Assets from [Screech] inktober #09
Sharing a selection of vector assets
Asset List subCategory List
35 Feathers
8 Fill texture patterns
14 Texture Groups
19 Texture Overlays
11 Trees/partial
13 Leaves
11 shapes
Asset Sample Sheets
PDF sample Sheet x2 (not all assets displayed)
Single asset file with 7 subcategories
Samples as displayed (had to change colour of some assets in library as don't display well on grey backgrounds)
Also embedded repeating patterns (x2) had to be inserted to assets as group rather than embedded file (which is how I usually use them.)
Enjoy!
Hope you find them useful

StuartRc reacted to Ben in Sneak peeks for 1.7
I have a little more refinement. I figured, if you are going to use the polygon mode, you ought to be able to edit the polygon you are placing to fine tune the selection.
So, will be able to click to delete a point, drag an existing point to reposition it, and drag mid-line to insert a point. You will finalise the selection by hitting Return, or closing the path by clicking on the root point, or dragging the end point onto the root point.
LassoNodeSelection2.mov
I'm thinking about also making the polygon mode Undo/Redo aware - so you can undo and redo changes to the selection polygon until you commit it.

StuartRc reacted to Kasper-V in The Lion and the Unicorn
The lion and the unicorn were fighting for the crown,
The lion beat the unicorn all around the town.
Some gave them white bread, and some gave them brown;
Some gave them plum cake and drummed them out of town.
I thought it would be much better if they made it up and went for a pint at The Crown.
It's done in Designer, with a couple of brief excursions into Photo to blur the background and stop it competing with the important bits, and to reduce the brightness of the unicorn a little. The woodgrain and the badges on the beer pulls are bitmaps acquired online, but otherwise everything is my own.

StuartRc reacted to Hokusai in Coy Beauty
GarryP,
Thanks for the questions. The black part (of her obi) that looks like it was unfinished was actually designed to look that way but I can see how you would think it wasn't finished. I went ahead and extended it and I think it looks better, thanks for the suggestion. I think you are right about the cloth. I changed it and it does seem to look better. Thanks!
Best regards,

Too early for thanks, todoist are likely to push hard for this, expect another call to arms from them
Serif needs to go all out if they want to win this ( Where's my email from you guys? - I don't follow social media)
Remember people you do not have to be on Windows 10 or have brought the product from the Windows Store, you just need any email to vote.

Affinity Designer, beats the crap out of its competition. Which is great, bearing in mind it's a relatively new program. And I now have a bloody MS account.

StuartRc reacted to VectorVonDoom in Local Vintage Photo Colourisation, The Faster Way
I've been thinking about doing some vector drawings of my local area so was looking at old photos. I fancied trying to colourise a couple to see if you can do it more simply and quickly than tutorials tend to show.
These are done more like a colouring book, you probably managed not to go over lines when you were about 5 and this isn't a lot different and if you do then that's what undo's for. So rather than selecting and masking each area I just used a soft brush and two layers, one with blend mode of soft light, which I did most of it in, and the other with a blend mode of colour. Then you pick your colour and paint and sometimes go over the area with a different shade and low opacity. The soft brush means you don't have to worry about edges quite so much. Finding a decent skin tone is the trickiest as you notice straight away if it's wrong but the more you do the more of a library of colour you have. Of course you can use more layers or use selections and fill but a lot old photos are bad enough quality that it takes longer to select the area than just painting it.
So if you fancied doing so colourisation but the tutorials made it look like some sort of magic and like too much faffing about then try it this way.

Designer deserves all the publicity, including this. Time to help a bit? If you are a member of any photo or graphics art related forums, maybe you could post a friendly message about the matter and ask people to cast a vote for Designer.

StuartRc reacted to Hokusai in Beauty of Edo
I saw this Utamaro print somewhere and I liked the print but it wasn't in very good shape, which is too bad because it is a nice print, so I recreated it using Designer and gave it sharper lines and new colours. I hope that you enjoy it.
Thank you for taking the time to view my work.

StuartRc reacted to Mandu in Pattern overlay
Pattern overlay is not in the layer effects simply because it is not needed. The way to use image (pixel) patterns is:
1. Create a fill layer (not pixel layer) and apply gradient>bitmap.
Now after you got your "pattern overlay" you can mask layer with it by dragging other layer/s inside it. This is exactly the same thing as Photoshop pattern overlay except this way is so much better because your image in the gradient fill remains editable in terms of scale, rotation and position, unlike Photoshop pattern overlay that has fixed all this and then you get nasty seams exactly where you don't want them.
OR
2. Draw curves and fill them with Gradeint>bitmap. this is just one of many reasons why Affinity>Adobe. You essentially have fully functional vector elements inside pixel based program.

StuartRc reacted to Dazmondo77 in Children Book - new style for me
Been working with one of my oldest friends on this one - children book, which is something I've done in the past at a student level but always fancied doing something pro - I realised my normal ragged comic-esque style would look a little out of place so I tried to come up with a different kind of style for this one - I kind of started off with my first Affinity Designer dabblings and let it snowball from there, I've used photographs of local wood textures to create most of the art - we are just coming to the end of the book now, just 3 or 4 pages off and then Aron, my poet extraordinaire, partner in crime is gonna start fishing to get it published - I'm all pretty new to this, and would really appreciate any advice from anyone on the forum on getting a publishing deal rather than self publishing.
Also, I've been dragging it out so that I'd be able to do the print ready layouts in Publisher but it's looking like I'll have to do this in InDesign CS5 - nay mind maybe we'll have Publisher for the next book in the series?

StuartRc reacted to VectorVonDoom in Doodling Kit
Looks I've been drawing using my trackpad too much and it's starting to give me thumb and bit of finger problems, not something I've ever had using a mouse. So I've been practicing with my other hand using my Intuos, with the MBP's trackpad disabled, to give that hand a rest. This was some messing around I was doing. It's hard sticking to the wrong hand perhaps I need to sit on it or lock it in a drawer or something. Anyway I did a doodling kit and thought 250 objects would be plenty (I originally hoped about 70 would be) but trying it out on A5 it looks like I need more, possibly a lot more, and some small things to help fill gaps.. You just Alt-drag them over to the work artboard then rotate etc as required. The second is just some conical gradients on the few layers I used. Oh the lines are 0.2mm, so as thought they're they're done with a fineliner.
