There is always something else to learn! Shading yes..difficult one...I tend to avoid the Effects panel in Layers and opt for a more direct approach. Mixing raster and vector elements has some real advantages..one of the best features of the software..But it has its limitations..depending on what you are trying to achieve with the result. Try some of these its fun!: A.Experiment with the opacity and transparency settings (helps with subtle effects) B.Use Vector Elements 'masked inside' and tinted transparent overlapping for additional effects C. Paint with 'Vector' Brushes but experiment with Blending Modes (Context Bar) in combination with transparency and opacity D. Vector Paint + Rasterize results (group required elements in layers first!) E. With the transparency tool it can be used more effectively if you group the object or selection of objects and re-apply the transparency (Different direction) (you can stack levels of transparency) F. Use vector elements to create shading effects (like halftones/graduated dots/shapes) G Directional Colour blends and combined with transparency tool Thank you for your comments about the brushes..The Brush Library started out as an experiment..but it got a bit out of hand..I just updated the list...I just wanted to give something back..for free but it only represents a selection of the total (which is now listed!)...I would not recommend installing them all! Have a look the vector render brushes in the INKbrush library. They are set up for painting+ Pressure if have tablet (and with Blending mode set to Average colour mix ok): here

Fantastic piece of artwork..I like the cat..a bit difficult to stroke though!.... You will not regret choosing Designer..Photo or Publisher..There is a learning curve for any software....and it's never complete! Look forward to more of your creations...

LOOKING FOR AN VECTOR INK BRUSH
StuartRc replied to lorendraws's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on iPad Questions
Hi, Callum is correct the nearest toolkit is the inkbrush set. I use that all the time (Vector paint then raster) I had a look around for an exact match (The inkbrush project set is much larger than what has been made available to the forum.[21 brush sets in total for INKproject; 8 of which are 'vector' based])...all tend to be unique or similar really... Also check out the vector brushes in some of the other project sets: Poison Set A Poison Set D Project Set Ammonite These are vector based and textured; similar to what you are trying to achieve but also fainter to allow build up. However I have extracted a set of 10 Vector Brushes from multiple sets that may help you..as attached!...give them a go see what you think! Vector Painters.zip -

There are a lot of brushes here!. The library is only a small selection of the total created...Installing and testing them all would take a long time... At the moment I only have the inkBrush Project Brush sets installed...only a limited number of these were released/added to the library. If it helps.... The most popular ones are :' Descriptive: dots' , 'hatching', 'vegetation sets' and 'patterns' Project sets 'Poison' (set A) Recommended Personally I prefer the most recent sets.. Inkbrush Project sets are my favourite at the moment...for obvious reasons.. Raster Texture Paint (Mixed Nozzle sample set) Any of the Poison 'Raster' Project sets Vegetation Brushes set 3 Project Brush Grunge set 9 Project Set 11:Camouflage Mixed Samples Vector InkBrush:Render InkBrush Linear InkBrush:Render Texture

Thank you... The colours are a bit of a cheat though...Used a lot of recolour adjustments in the layers panel to get the effect....Really like this capability in AD...non destructive colour testing!

As part of project also working on a set of vector assets for tree construction...'Gnarly' following on from Camouflage I....too small to see in the word prompt drawing....but you can see one of them here..
