  1. OK! I added a tutorial some time ago on 'Creating Vector Brushes'..it should help you. There seemed to be a lot of brushes around set to >2000px but I didn't think it was necessary..The inkbrush Sets 'Render' | 'Linear' | 'Render Texture' are mostly 500px wide. I Set up a template to process both output sizes but the 500px width is certainly adequate. I am pleased it's not raster brushes..that is a big world for me!...I have another document similar to the one above for Raster Brushes but it needs updating (as of 1.7 update with sub-nozzles)...and picked up a couple of extra techniques!
  2. Thanks!..I hope you find them useful...but ....I am still working on this project!
  3. Hi, Good question! Really depends on what type of brush you are creating...'vector' or raster.. This is a bit subjective having completed a few of brushes.... If you are planning a number of brushes.. a. Put a template together that allows you to export slices at different sizes b. Build the nozzles as vector (then they can be used as vector textures for drawings!) and tends to give you a 'cleaner' output with greater flexibility. Vector [500 - 1000 px] x [n-height]* png + 300dpi + adjust output settings to reduce file size. *height being dependant on the type and function of the brush Raster I tend to ignore icon size convention and just initiate: 100 | 200 px | 400px* (nozzle and base textures) .png + setting adustments *400px can be used but I do not believe it is necessary for most brushes. Base textures at 400px are useful if you are going to re-import as a repeat fill pattern Most of the brushes I completed have nozzles of 200px. A 100px nozzle is useful when creating 'small' brushes i.e. fine liners or pencil brushes or nozzles that have limited patterning like a couple of 'dots/blobs' of 'ink' . They also react a bit faster with a tablet..but not so useful when scaling up. A 200px nozzle will give you more flexibility when scaling the brush (keys)..I do this all the time! Size can be scaled down for pencil like effects or upwards..even above 200px
  4. Organic Pattern Brushes 01 Added a new set of organic pattern brushes based on Camouflage II vector elements 30 Brushes 14 Seamless patterns
  5. No problem it's good to see someone else developing brushes I put together some techniques for creating vector brushes in the tutorial section....you may have it..but here is the link anyway: Creating Vector Brushes
  6. That's a difficult one. The distribution of the pattern on the stroke/fill can be controlled using select: Fill/Stroke then Experimenting with the 'extend' options on the context bar. If you want something more consistent/repetitive... turn on the 'maintain fill aspect ratio'... and adjust the fill nodes...it does not give you complete control but worth looking at to see if the patterning gets closer to what you are looking for.. The stretched appearance is a result of the setting in the brush editing panel Body: Stretch | Repeat toggles + adjusting the head + tail offsets... With Stretch selected the area between the 2 red lines (offsets) gets stretched With Repeat selected the area between the 2 lines (offsets) repeats Can require a lot of experimentation...I tend let the brushes stretch...but really it's just down to preference....
  7. I think it needs more variation in the leaves!....
  8. Thank you for sharing. Looking good...The cross hatch one is my favourite!..Wish I had thought of that.... I have a couple of suggestions which would add a bit of additional functionality to the brushes.... A. If you activate the opacity slider (30-60%)[+Pressure] you can add to the 'variation' on the brush using the context menu and setting the controller to 'pressure'... B. When you build them test with blend modes and opacity...just to see what results you get
  9. Thanks for your comment!...I still have some work to do on this asset set yet!....its W.I.P. I added the colour versions to the original drawing here I just stripped out all the details...
  10. Added 13 new assets to the library and edited sample sheet accordingly Corrected subcategory organisation Replaced original .zip file (need to download!)
  11. Vector Element Enhancements:Tulip Plant New options for some of the plants and a few new texture meshes Added some additional configurations to the assets library in resources
  12. I must admit I have not tried the blur edge effect on 'vector brushes'...Still I am sure I will find a use for it..thanks for the tip!.. With regards to gradients/transparency I tend to nest the groups of objects/single elements so multiple transparency/different directions can be applied and/or stack low level transparent colours. Used this technique a lot when creating vector brushes (Group objects) apply transparency [horizontal]..group again apply transparency [vertical]. I like your comment about AD...completely agree with that one!
  13. It is lot of work to develop these images but also really fun to build ... even though it can be unpredictable. Absolutely! transformations are a major consideration when choosing vectors over raster on this type of artwork.. Overall it is a versatile process.... Time consuming but does have a lot of advantages. There are processes in the construction which I have enjoyed working with...particularly in AD. listed a few below: 1. Moving elements quickly between files and layering embedded images/objects and ability to edit directly in the master file.... but with the changes being made to file import/integration in Publisher + StudioLink might be worth exploring Publisher as an option for construction of final layout 2. Ability to control subtle tints/transparencies directly in elements to create the illusion of dimension (time consuming but worth it!) + Styles to re-apply 3. Vector texturing (one of my favourites) also scalable and almost infinitely controlled. 4. Colour adjustments..Testing and adopting colour changes using non-destructive layer adjustments (Brightness/Contrast | HSL | Recolour | Curves | Channel Mixer) ..I would taken greater advantage of Global colours but don't seem to migrate/trans-locate between files. I have had to separately export a palette containing only global swatches 5. Meshing...something been using a lot recently to enhance texturing (Patterned compound paths + Add Curve to selected object option!)...but remember to turn it off when finished otherwise you get a nice surprise! 6. Nested layer grouping to have greater control over transparency 7. Layer Blending
  14. Added assets to the brush library and edited title here: Resources List
  15. Edited the list to include Vector assets...and changed the title a bit..still crazy though!
  16. Looks Good. (used to rely on MEB as well..but must be time-consuming to monitor whole forum!) OK I have just made a list of the vector assets (I am sure missed some!)..I will that to the brush list and change the title to reflect it.
  17. Yep that is a good idea!....I did for the brush library but not for the assets....
  18. Thanks Patrick... I get the impression that the planet has done all the design work.. I was watching a documentary about AI and structural design where the algorithms were in effect designing/manufacturing the same organic structures that are naturally 'tried and tested' ...mostly mesh composites for structural strength...it's all going to be Giger's Alien! I rely on a lot of imagery to supplement the ideas....trouble is is takes a long time...The expand stroke in 1.8 has been very useful for the latest drawing..yet another constructive step forward....looking forward to it's general release..
  19. That's Ok!...I know I am a fan of natural/environmental structure and textures...but lichens and mushrooms are on a whole new level ...there is some really weird plants out there... so many possibilities for vector based textures..I have been intrigued! ..it will keep me busy...
  20. Added a collection of vector assets into resources Camouflage II vector Assets
