Organic Brush Set (Special) and Greyscale/Monochrome StyleSheet Been experimenting with creating a set of raster brushes based upon the variation of a single pattern ..just to see what can be achieved. New grey-scale Style Sheet and 30 experimental Raster Brushes added to resources: 1. Monochrome Styles 2. Raster Brushes

Organic Brushes Added a special set of Organic Brushes but using only the monochrome style patterns (4 layer single pattern) All brushes are set to 100 30 variations of the same pattern as base texture Base texture set at 400x400px Nozzles at 200 x 200px Samples as below: Camouflage - Organic Brush Special.zip

That is incredible!....fantastic work!

I can fully understand that...When I started I didn't expect the project to grow so large...I don't have all these brushes installed...but there are some sets I use all the time. Mostly the InkBrush sets (biggest I believe!) Grunge and now organic sets. With the older brush sets I just install when needed..or create a project set for the drawing at hand. Building a Brush Library has helped a lot with the textures for drawings (vector and raster)...I use them all the time..even though initially they were a by-product of brush creation. From a personal standpoint: 1.Vector brushes for drawing and sketching 2. Raster for texturing and patterning especially dots hatch and patterns. (Mixing these together can create some interesting effects) also to erase back using an alternative texture 3. Grunge and splatter for creating paint like effects (especially when opacity dropped down) to build up colour + background grunge texture (I am sure that is on a lot of my drawings). Also used to create vector based texture (as in Camouflage II background and Poison) 4. Organic pattern brushes to add texture to solid ink/shapes 5. Vector elements to create vector based texture inside shapes + mixed with transparency and tints to create depth (why I added vector grunge/ patterns and forms) 6. Pattern Brush well to create Patterns (as there are no vector pattern options yet!)... (one of my favourite sets..+ it includes some isometric)...used specifically for one drawing Tin Man the latest part of this are the new styles and layered Symbol elements Project Brush sets for individual drawings as it was getting annoying constantly moving between brush sets...so why not have set specific for the job... and just pull in what you need from a Library..hence a Library....should have a different name though....I liked the black hole comment...earlier but that name is already taken for a brush set/s...I checked! .. The InkBrush Set was created specifically to work with ink-style drawing trying to re-create what I used to do on a drawing board. I use this set a lot..It's usually the only group of brushes installed...unfortunately I haven't added much of it to the forum... The InkPainter Set...listed but not completed yet...created when I found the InkBrush set had nozzles too small to work on larger ink drawings..but as I was creating a new set..I changed many of the nozzles (+refined)...Using this set at the moment for a new 1500 x 500mm drawing The by-products ..vector elements and base textures have been used extensively on the larger vector drawings (Poison, Camouflage I and II, Shy, ) Hope this helps

Thanks again! Scale and rotation with the bitmap fill tool + layer adjustments gives you a lot of leverage with the patterns. Once a colour theme is defined...Layer adjustments will do the rest... The original files (like the attachment) are vector..The Styles are 400DPi .png The three patterns contained in the attached file are stacked groups 1 in the dots 4 in the red coral (red) 4 in the rock (yellow) Change colours | transparency | blending mode | rotate to get a new pattern..set layer blending to erase to punch through layer stack | change rectangle colour+opacity for additional effects..etc

Thanks! I can see your point I do build some weird stuff! The initial idea was to move away from creating 'unique' individual seamless patterns for brush base textures and adopt a 'stacking' process in a single object (rectangle or Symbol). This way you can mix your options...rather than redraw each element(helps to have some seamless patterns though! ) Then experiment with colour | transparency | layer blending modes | rotation etc..to enhance patterns. Once the style is created the colour ramps I transparency can be further adjusted with layer adjustments..so they can be any colour/tint etc. Symbol | Rectangle (Mask) | Group | Vector Elements but add additional grouped elements as required Attempted to adopt a similar process using the Appearance Panel but that just did not work correctly. Added three samples as AD file: Patterns_F.afdesign

Thanks Patrick... much appreciated..and made me laugh! When I finish the Raster Brush document you will be able to create the same stuff!!...The patterns are a by-product of the base textures in the Camouflage I and organic brush sets for Camouflage II....I must have over a 1000 seamless textures!...from all the other brushes...it's useful to know that they can be adapted for something else.. and yes..again very impressed with your images.... Thank you...these were a bit of a fight to get them to work properly...but worth it in the end... ...learn't a few more tricks! I was trying to update 'creating raster brushes' doc/PDF that was never uploaded as 1.7 introduced new functionality) but have been a bit distracted with this! little project.... and playing around with nested symbols!...there are a few issues 1.73 when you use symbols to create styles...Works much better in 1.8 though. You can make some crazy patterns now!...and enhance with layer adjustments.. to go with the crazy brushes!

Camouflage II Pattern Styles Created a new set of styles using some of the base textures built for the organic pattern Brushes Sets I and II using multi layer symbols to extend the effects 30 independent styles (set with maintain fill aspect ratio/wrap) File size is Larger than usual! ....Exported the .png but a t higher res (400dpi) Sample Sheet as below with .zip file for assets: Camouflage II Pattern Styles.zip

Hi Walt is quite correct.. the issue lies with the 'format' of the base texture. In effect you are applying a 'greyscale' image to the brush to act as a texture.... It is possible to acquire the kind of effect that you are looking for but requires editing of the original image you are using for texture generation. Essentially the base image needs to be black/white. When I created textures using images I built a template to apply layer adjustments to the image/selected area before exporting Basic Method For Base Texture 1. Open the base texture (seamless!) 2. Set resolution to 300dpi or higher if want to preserve > detail; export size as 200 or 400 px (they do not need to be large!) 3. Use (experiment!) Brightness and Contrast | Black and white Adjustment and Threshold to reduce the greyscale element of your image. so becomes B/W Hi res 4. Export as PNG 5. Apply as base texture Basic method for Brush Nozzle To create a working nozzle . 1. Apply same method as above 2. Use another textured brush as eraser to 'erode' the edges (and get rid of square appearance!)...this will give you the appearance of a blurred edge. USe a mask to do this if want to be non-destructive Its a bit trial and error but you should get a better result! You will lose the fine detail but gain a textured rock pattern....A bit like the image below..Which was just paint on canvas

Thank you for reminding me!...I meant to put together a scamp sheet outlining the process for the Camouflage Projects....Thought the text explanation was a bit bland....so....

That's OK!...I added them to the forum for them to be used/edited....There will be some more leaves!...
