  1. Creating Seamless Patterns Extracted a page from my notes in Publisher...had a bit of an issue extracting the spread! Couldn't finish it last night! This is my take on creating seamless patterns extracted from 'Creating Raster Brushes' There many other tutorials around to do this...but this is my take on how to do it... I use this technique lots!...With the patterns created it is easy to deploy them in different ways. A. Create Styles B. Use as Base textures for Brushes C. Use as a seamless vector pattern D. Use as vector textures in conjunction with other objects. You can see this application in 'Poison' where the brush and asset sets were recently updated here
  2. Texture Based Styles The Textures you see above are really a by product of the brushes/library created and presented in resources. As most not all components of the brushes I create are now vector based it's much easier to manipulate and adjust the objects Basics The is pretty basic but it will give you an idea of the process! Pattern Creation 1. Need to create a pattern in the first instance. The pattern usually but not always has to be 'seamless'. For this you need a grid with a basic symbol arranged in a 'cross' like pattern so you can test for breaks in design. I usually start with a simple rectangle into which I place the pattern! 2. When creating organic textures I realised that to acquire the variation needed for brushes the symbols had to be multi-layered i.e contain a mixture of stacked elements that can 'switched visibility' and apply layer adjustments. This is largely a response to the fact it takes some time to construct and test seamless patterns and for organic patterns in particular it's useful to introduce something that is unpredictable.. or lots of variation 3. Initially I set the pattern sizes to reflect the brush base pattern (200x200px) 300dpi but for Styles I re-created the grid layout at 400x400 or even 800x800px (400dpi)..This helps with scaling and image quality 4. Build the patterns as vector not raster!...much greater control with scaling....You will need this for when creating the styles. NB A. Colour patterns can be added to brush base textures...they just get converted to grey! B. Pattern base textures can be inverted and scaled within the brush dynamics C. If using layer stacking within symbols... place textures within their own rectangle D. Repeating Patterns can be converted to compound curves (You can 'nest' other patterns inside) E. Use groups to control multiple objects with adjustment layers and visibility settings (Erase/Transparency etc).... it's much easier than trying to manipulate every element F. Use layer adjustment like erase to enhance/edit existing patterns Styles 1. Create larger grid (scale down in Export Persona as required!) 2. If using colours....apply global colours to groups of objects... it's all about adjustment and control! 3.Create your pattern and export at 400x400 or 800x800 px (300 or 400dpi)... 4. Set up new file with a rectangular container (set you size to reflect the imported bitmap! (no fill/no stroke! so this does not get saved with the style!) 4. Import the image using Fill Tool (G) and set type to bitmap and Extend to Wrap 5. Create a style from selected object....label accordingly (you are a bit limited here!) 6. Apply style to vectors...nice and simple 6. Export the styles Once the styles have been created....re-apply to other vector objects. Remember that further layer adjustments can be applied to styled elements! I have added some images to help you from my original notes...if you can work out what all the icons mean!..I have not quite finished these... The images will help you....but they are not outlined as a process or sequence This I have uploaded something similar before....this is a later version...but useful to have it in this thread This gives you an idea of the variation that you can achieve

  4. hi, When I first started I just used to create brushes by 'drawing/painting' shapes (bitmap/raster) [Nozzles] onto a predefined grid. Then exporting as .png. Over time I realised it was much more efficient to draw the shapes as vector and export to .png. So you do not need to convert to vector as they are now already vector! I use a lot of the shapes and patterns in vector drawings....for adding texture to shapes with vector rather than painting with a brush! I started to write up a lot of the work but have not completed it.. The 'sister' tutorial for 'vector' brushes is here There are are some nozzles you could try here! as well Nozzles The process for nozzles is pretty simple Set up file (with required grid) and export slices. (Mine is quite simple! the 20x 200x200px rectangles) Export as .png Nozzles are built using vector shapes (black usually) but can use greyscale or colour! Base Textures For base textures I just use a 'symbol' containing a single rectangle into which the repeating pattern is placed and exported same way (size and resolution varies) There is some information on how to do this here and samples of the results here If you want to experiment there are some simple base textures here basically you set up a seamless pattern using a symbol to you can test the result!
  5. Thanks!...Use the same term in Yorkshire! It has taken some time to 'evolve' the brushes...been updating some of them steadily! Maybe give some direction to the the resources section!..hadn't really given any thought to including some nozzles...there are some resources for the base textures but that is 3 years old now!.. You can achieve a lot with a small number of nozzles and just adjust the dynamics
  6. It is much easier if you have your own nozzles...( I must have 1000's now!)... I have used that technique a few times...to create a stamp of an old brush so I could redraw it!...as the early brushes created were mostly raster...but later learnt the error of my ways and create all nozzles as vectors including, the base textures in the the first instance=much more flexible, better nozzle quality... and easier to modify when you find it is not working!
  7. Yeah!....I have wondered the significance of the base texture in the sub-brush for sometime..! I tried using it but the parent brush seems to have all the control!... However... there is a lot you can do with the sub brushes
  8. I understand your query now...Don't think you can do that!...nice idea to be able to transfer existing nozzles from one brush to another If you have your own nozzle sets (brushes).. Surely it would not be a problem..
  9. Hi Not a perfect solution.... but this may help you go some way to what you are trying to achieve... You can drag/drop pre-existing brushes between brushes in same category or other categories!...So just drag an existing brush onto subcategory panel!

  11. I don't usually comment but all I can say is Amazing! and big Thank you! Affinity People for your continued support...It is obvious that a lot of people are struggling with current events!... These offers do not apply to me...which does not concern me in the slightest...The applications are a bargain at full price!...but it's not about the price....It is about what you can achieve... I am just relieved that I had the incentive to engage with this software in the first instance...into my fifth year now...with over 200 drawings and 1000's of brushes and assets!... none of which would have been completed without these apps! I cannot believe that there would be any negative response... to offering software that is innovative, evolved so rapidly at a discount...

I keep getting asked this...My intention was to create some resources people can use freely. So yes these sets are free..   15. Thanks for fixing the texture tab issue..this seems to be working correctly ....BUT! (should really be flagged as new issue) 1. Don't seem to be able to get the Base Textures to display in AD or AP 2. The Nozzles are till grey..or dark or not as they were! in earlier versions NB Tried resetting but no change! also import/reimport... also changing nozzle on existing brushes The brushes work though!
  16. I just had a play around with the dynamics settings just to make sure...Yep that looks to be the problem...thanks for the quick reply as usual!...I will go back to trying to break the dynamics!
  17. Hi, Thanks for the new beta. I am getting a constant crash now when attempting to use the raster brushes. It was a simple set up... 1. Create new file (A4) 2. Change BG colour of artboard to black 3. Paint with raster brushes (ProjectBrush - Pattern Base Set) [personal]..basically the new pattern brush set in forum but without the patterns 4. Just paint on screen and adjust settings.....started to crash constantly now. I noticed this earlier when I adjusted the size Jitter on one of the brushes (using cycle) and the app just closed. Tonight I was attempting to find the cause or dig a bit deeper!... but not sure now that it is related to this. Oddly the colour of the brush nozzles (B/W) has changed to grey. Even had a crash when just switching the tabs in the dynamics panel. Brushes were created in live version and have been working fine for some time. Ok! crash instigated when clicking between tabs on open brush panel and painting on the artboard! It occurs across several brush sets including 'basic' Attached several crash reports as below: Crash reports_Brush Dynamics.zip Original issue The first crash initially seemed to be caused by editing the size jitter in the brush dynamics. I was just adjusting the graph (cycle) and value of the setting. Pulled the 2 brushes out of the inktober inker set: edited brush.zip
  18. You can just drag the files into an asset category..but I would not recommend it!
  19. I have a lot of leaves! which ones are you referring to..some asset sets I have not uploaded to resources as the projects are not complete!

Short answer is No Long answer: This thread is really split into 2 sections; Uploaded assets that are free to download (Blue links), Shared work samples (assets and brushes) not so free to download (Red links) Currently these are mostly brushes Really long answer: There are a number of other asset files that are not currently the forum such as the tree builders. There are currently 3 sets of tree builders and a forth one under development. Gnarly V2 is actually visible on the forum here but there are 2 others; Tree builder 01 and Tree Builder 02 that can be seen on my artstation account. In addition I have been working through upgrading both the brush assets (using 1.7 engine and generally improving the nozzles!/dynamics) and creating comprehensive vector sets from existing and new projects. There is only 1 of these visible on the forum under 'Poison' which is really for reasons of necessity (#100days100Commisions) the only project 100% complete here. This one took quite some time as it is a project consisting of over 300 brushes sets of styles, vector seamless patterns and a lot of vector assets. There are several others like this, again on artstation if you want to have a look. These include Camouflage I Camouflage II and Monster World (which is in 2 parts [plants and rock monsters]) Some of these assets are available on the forum within their respective threads in share your work. There are a lot of brushes not uploaded 1000's probably.. I am not going to count them.. I believe there are 6 x 120 brush sets just for texture project alone but they need reworking...but it does also leave me with 100's of seamless patterns.. There are a number of other projects that I am still working on...I am sure there will be more assets !..eventually...
  21. Thanks Alfred....They are just compound files inside a .afdesign file. As stated at top they are a bit too complex to add to an assets library..so it's just a copy/paste job
  22. Updated Pattern Brush set to Version 02A. Updated to new layout for sample sheetsB. All vector based patternsC. Reduced sets from 10 to 4 D. Now Project set 20
