PB 32 Comic Dot TK Added new brush Set Toolkit based on the PB 19 Inker Toolkit (Same brush Nozzles extracted from several different sets). Renamed the brush collection and created new basic dot pattern base textures with additional ones extracted from PB 19 Inker | PB 32 Comic Sketch | PB 30 Comic Grunge.- 49 replies

Brush Workflow Question
StuartRc replied to IKB's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I would agree a 'personal' brush category is extremely useful for workflow. Especially as you link it across all apps now. I like the new brush history in the layers but it is limited. Useful for remembering size variations though. With regards to the colour mixing you could try experimenting with the blend modes on the context menu (average is pretty good at colour mixing!)..or fix the blend mode in brush dynamics!.. Also have a play around with the H S L values | settings in the brush dynamics. Mixing these with the new 'Distance' option (reverse the graph for effect!) can provide you with some interesting results. -

Pleased you have found a solution...still maybe a bug though..I can understand why this appeared to be causing the issue but sort of shouldn't if you know what I mean...Still you can paint now!😀

Assets: Comic Toolkit seamless Pattern Fills Added new Asset Set to consider the new feature with V2 of dragging pattern assets (Vector or raster) onto the fill swatch on context bar. Personally I use these as overlays for images to create a comic grunge effect but they can equally be used as simple vector patterns. To function, vector patterns had to be nested into a container rectangle rather than just a compound curve (as vector pattern assets above) Asset Seamless pattern sets 01-03 [A mixture of Dots | Grunge | Grids] 01 Dot Patterns 01 Grunge Patterns 01 Grid Patterns- 49 replies

OK I added the link with the FX issue so you can compare that as well

I cannot be of much help here as I don't have iPad but there are a few things you could try: 1. As @walt.farrell has pointed out ; there is a long standing issue with 'pixel painting' inside objects in the layer stack. So painting inside a group or layer can have some weird results. The temporary solution is to paint on pixel layers outside any group or layer 2. From what I can see from the video it looks like the brush itself is lagging or delayed in presenting the stroke to the image. This could be a brush issue. a. Are your brushes custom or from a commercial set? b. Have you modified the brush settings in any way? c. Are they large brushes? A couple of things to investigate here: Is the Spacing on the brush dynamics set to a very low level i.e. 0 or 1 o 2? If so try increasing the spacing slightly to speed up the response. Are the Nozzles very large in the first instance i.e have you scaled | sized! a very large brush down to the painting size 3. Remove FX Effects: A recent issue I looked at with brush lagging was related to the presence of an FX adjustment on a layer or object in the layer stack. Temporarily removing any FX may also help! 4. Snapping (especially AD) can also effect how a brush works (make it a bit sticky!) So if working in Pixel Persona make sure it is turned off 5. Brush Dynamics: Simplifying the brush dynamics such as removing rotation Jitter it it is not needed can speed up a brush This is the link with the FX issue so you can compare

No! The FX is at the top of the layer stack.. just disable that one!😀 You Should see a difference in the speed when you draw | Paint inside and object

Line size jitter
StuartRc replied to pioneer's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Interesting.. I can make it happen as well! It seems to occur when the lines are viewed as mm rather than px (setting changed in preferences > User Interface >Show Lines in Points i.e toggle off Show lines as points... switch back issue disappears! -
Seamless pattern
StuartRc replied to HappySloth's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi I found a couple of issues with the template: a. Dimensions and positioned rectangles are not all equal and exact b. The rectangle has a white border of 0 px -

Help with assistant and mask layer
StuartRc replied to srg's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
mm.. just a quick thought....have you checked ..when tying to paint the mask or paint IS the layer or correct layer selected. I get this sometimes when raster painting and accidentally (being an idiot!) deselect the layer... -
yep I have seen things like this before.. the more complex the group ..the more likely it is to occur. Sometimes I get raster images | objects that do the opposite. i. e it clips image to edges of object even though larger...To get around this I usually just rasterize it!

It is possible that a object within your group is larger than the visible area.. a. like a large vector contained within a smaller shape b. remote single pixel present but not obviously visible c. a rotated object within a group can increase the group container size

Hi In the sample file: If you turn off the FX on your sample file the Vector Brush will paint without much lag inside another object! Sometimes the brushes work better if the Snapping is disabled Not sure why the FX is causing issues...could be a bug!

The second link was just to highlight the info section where there are some external links to help with creating brushes. (There are a few more 'tutorials' added to YouTube since I created it!...I might have a trawl through to see if I can add to the list!) Yeah!😀..they are raster along a path rather than true vector... To get around it I just create some grunge vectors and transform into shapes I need...no big deal! I believe true vector brushes have been requested many times on the Forum.. just have to see what V2 brings as new features in the future!.😀 With regards to the brushes you are trying create.. I have not really had any issues with 300dpi brushes.. but I tend to avoid creating very large brushes as the process slows down (Just like in most other apps!) You can go higher with the res for the Nozzle (stretched in the case of 'vector' brushes). I made all the brushes initially vector and then just exported as .PNG in export Persona. This made it much easier to create different effects. With raster brushes and patterns (Base textures) I increased the size of these to 400 x 400px last year just to get a scaled pattern when scaled up The 'vector. brushes are pretty good for laying down textures and quick sketching. I tend to group all the lines and raster the result..it is a pretty quick method and useful in the pixel persona There are also some threads on the Forum that could help you Vector Shading Brushes PNG REs I made a stack of vector brushes a long time ago here and a mix set here updated V2 dot brushes you could try them to get a better insight into creating brushes for your own sets Hope this helps!

Hi Symbols are pretty powerful and can be utilised in a number of ways for UI | Patterns | Source Referencing and manipulating effects. UI Symbols Effects Patterns and Patterns Symbols should be ideal for creating UI Had a look at the sample file I can what you are saying with regards to the detached text and was not quite sure how that had been achieved. In the layers panel it looks as though the content text inside the button is 'detached' from the containing symbol [dotted line]. This would stop the symbol working correctly. I tested the options for using a symbol as an 'editable' button and appears to work correctly. 1. Changes to text in symbol reflect all symbols with Sync active and 'attached' 2. Inactive Sync allows for changes 3. Detach and create adds a new symbol 4. Detach and duplicate creates a group not symbol 5. Create Duplicate group creates a symbol You can create alternate versions of the same symbol but deactivating the Sync or detaching the original Symbol and creating a new one A bit confusing but logical: 1. A detached symbol that is duplicated becomes a group as no longer symbol 2. You seem to be able to detach the contents of a symbol without removing the symbol appearance in the layers panel. This stops it working as a symbol Not sure whether this is a bug or by design but you could try different options with the Detach | Create; nested symbols or toggling the Sync to get better results Hope this helps! Hi I tend to output vector Brush PNG's at 300 dpi but you can go higher if you are not getting the results you expected. As far as I am aware there have been no significant changes to the Vector Brushes between V1 and V2 so the process of creating brushes should not have changed. When experimenting with the early brush sets I tended to build 'vector brushes' with lengthy images (X= 2000px+ ) This give you a smoother brush but not really necessary. You can easily produce adequate brushes that are much smaller (say x=500px + n height) Also advisable to set up a template to export multiple PNG's from the Export Persona. Where you can also control size options automatically from the output ...Saves a lot of time if you are creating lots of brushes! Some time ago I put together a PDF based tutorial which may be of help with the design and construction of Vector Based Brushes. Linked as below: There are also some additional 'off Forum' links in the information section of this thread that are also very useful when constructing vector brushes. (NB Need to be updated..as I am sure there are a few more references online that would be useful!😀) Also consider that the Size of the DPI in the document can influence the function and size of the vector brush. There is a thread relating to this here
