amatheus got a reaction from Sparkway in Affinity Designer on iPad should auto save files and use iCloud File Browsers and model
Today it's very strange to share files between affinity designer on iPad and Mac.
On the iPad I must open the file and then explicitly save when I want changes to be reflected on iCloud.
This is a very strange model for the iPad where in general apps auto save files automatically, specially when saving on the iCloud.
Besides, there's separate files on the iPad and when you open the file from iCloud it appears on the initial screen of Designer, which is very strange. Other applications today just show the system file browser which makes much more sense.
So I would like to request auto save and use of the system file browser on iOS to be more in line with how iOS apps operate.

I am having a question / feature request:
why is Affinity photo (and designer) not Auto saving a document that I just created? I always have to hit „save“ via the custom context menu (which I wish btw will be an iOS 13 context menu at some point) in the gallery view. On iOS, I am used to that all documents I create will auto save to iCloud or to the local storage at least.
is there a specific reason why Affinity photo does not auto save a new document?
I use affinity photo to focus stack macro shots on the go, and then edit them on the Mac. It took me a lot of time to figure out why those affinity photo documents where not visible on iCloud Drive on the Mac. Until recently I hit the save button in that context menu. I am not used to save something on iOS...
Please implement this auto saving feature which would make Affinity a little bit more iOS friendly. Remember, this is not macOS, some elements could be a little bit more iOS-ish.
And I hope that some point, contextual menus find there way into affinity as well as other normal iOS UI elements.

    Hi Team,

I find the current save option very limiting - it would be nice to centralized save on file in iCloud and be able to open the file on Mac or iPad without import/export.
This would improve their workflow significantly.

I agree. Please add auto save to your list of future features, at least an option to turn it on and off. It’s disconcerting to have Affinity apps behave differently than almost every other app out there.

First of all I would like to thank you for Affinity Designer on the iPad. It's the thing I've been missing from the iPad for a long time, and it seems really great.
After using it I have one request, which is something that bugs me with every iPad app that doesn't do it: auto save by default.
It feel really bad on the iPad to use apps where you actually have to explicitly save the documents, specially when using iCloud Drive.
My expectation whenever I put a document on iCloud Drive and change it on the application is that the content will automatically go to the file, specially when it's an app that exists on the Mac and the iPad.
From what I've saw I'm not sure but it seems like Designer won't auto save to iCloud Drive; I have a document right now with changes that do not show up on my Mac.
