sergio got a reaction from why_so_complicated in Setting rounded rectangle corner radius in pixels
@MEB thanks, that works!
But, why need to check that box to specify what kind of units should be used? If I enter % as a unit inside the radius input, it should be able to detect it's a relative unit. Else, all other supported units are absolute.

sergio got a reaction from BBG3 in How to open .ai doc using px units in AD in px units?
Is it possible to add an option to set it to open directly using px and 72dpi? This would be very convenient since I have a ton of .AI documents that'll be converting to .afdesign...

Yep, that exception relates precisely to the improvement I originally requested.

sergio got a reaction from charleshb in [AD] Align with key object / aligning nodes
OK, hopefully the product/dev team will take notice. Aligning to a key object is essential when you can't afford to guess which object will be picked as a key object. Even a minimal version of this that makes the first or last selected object the key object would already be a big step forward.

sergio got a reaction from Highvoltage in Paste in place for artboards
Currently, if I copy-paste between artboards, the objected pasted on another artboard is centered on the artboard, instead of getting the same coordinates it has(s) in the artboard it came from.
This is inconsistent with the copy-paste behavior within the same artboard, so it would be nice nice if paste in place worked across artboards as well.

sergio got a reaction from anon1 in Option to hide bottom bar
Based on the discussion in https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/15194-how-to-hide-the-bottom-bar-with-shortcuts-and-other-tips/
Would be great to have the option to hide the bottom bar to maximize screen real estate on small displays.

sergio got a reaction from LilleG in How to hide the bottom bar with shortcuts and other tips?
JFisher - it helps if you don't mind working in Separated mode, which is not my case.
So I'm still wondering whether this is by design? Or you're planning an option to hide it in non-separated mode?
It's a bit puzzling that you can literally hide every other UI group individually, except the one which is relatively least useful.

bump!
This would be a great improvement to include in the UI design-centric 1.5.0 release ;-)

sergio reacted to ParanoidAndroid in DXF Export for Laser Cutters
We would love to be able to use Affinity with our Chinese laser cutter which really only works well when supplied with DXF files, please implement DXF 12/14 export.
Currently we have to use Illustrator for this it but it would be great to be able to drop Illustrator finally!

sergio got a reaction from elabx in Multiple selections of Text and combined Font settings
@A_B_C you seem to be quite used to this workflow judging from your comment. Yes it works, but it's not efficient nor is it discoverable for new users - i.e. 2 usability sins.
The point is to remove the number of steps it takes to complete the task. If you perform this task several times with the improved UX, you'll appreciate the savings in discoverability, cognitive effort, time spent performing the task, and RSI prevention.
One other task that could benefit from having the align & distribute functions present in the toolbar by default is changing/adding rounded corners to multiple rectangles. You have to select all the rectangles with the selection tool, then switch to the rectangle tool to get access to the rounded corners options.
I think the contextual toolbar should not be used for functionality/options (e.g. align & distribute) common to different object types. It should be reserved for functionality/options that is specific to those objects, e.g. text objects, nodes in curves, etc. And it should be available by default if I have multiple objects of the same type selected.

sergio got a reaction from AshTeriyaki in Show which artboard is active on canvas
Currently it's only possible to see which artboard is active in the layers panel. It would be great if the currently active artboard would also be highlighted in the canvas.
This would minimize reliance in having to use UI panels when e.g. assessing which artboard is the target for pasting.

sergio got a reaction from Matthias in Allow toggling duplicate while dragging
One frustration I have with Affinity Designer (and Photoshop) is that if I want duplicate while dragging using the ALT modifier key, I have to remember to press ALT before dragging.
Illustrator and Sketch are much more forgiving if I forget to press ALT - if you press/unpress ALT while dragging, it will toggle the duplicate mode.
-
sergio got a reaction from Twomen in Enable smart guides while duplicating
When duplicating objects (or artboards) via dragging it would be a huge time saver if smart guides work during the drag to duplicate operation.
Currently we're restricted to first having to drag to duplicate, then moving to allow smart guides to work.

sergio got a reaction from Twomen in Artboards feedback
Here's some feedback about the new Artboards functionality introduced with v1.3.5.7:
- It took me ages to find out how to add Artboards. Eventually I found it's a tool nested with the selection tool button. While I understand I can quickly switch to it the a keyboard shortcut, I think it's hard to find and access with the mouse. I'd make this a separate button in the toolbar.
- I'd separate layers from artboards, i.e. make a separate panel for listing artboards. I may need to select multiple objects contained in the same layer, but on different artboards (I'd have to select multiple layers now, which is not practical if I have several artboards
- Need number input to be able to customize artboard dimensions in toolbar (surely that's coming soon :)
- Need option to customize colour of background behind artboards. I'd prefer if the default is what you use for single artboard documents (dark).
- Need UI buttons (in artboard mode) to cycle through artboards at current zoom level. Perhaps placing it in the bottom "help bar"
- Need keyboard shortcuts to cycle through artboards at current zoom level
- Allow for direct ALT-drag of artboards without having to select an artboard first
- Allow for toggling duplicate mode (hold ALT) while dragging an artboard, instead of required ALT to be pressed before starting to drag. This helps compensate for error/forgetting to press-hold ALT before starting to drag to duplicate.
- Nice to have - ability to edit artboard name directly above the artboard
Other than that, great start with this feature. Thanks.

This is is one of the most epic beta releases so far!

sergio reacted to Matthias in Artboards feedback
This applies to duplicating in general. Also a visual update of the tool icon (arrow plus “+”) would help. You don’t have to look any further than the OS X Finder.
+1 to your other points too.

sergio reacted to MEB in artboard - align objects
Hello Martin,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Some features related/tied with art boards are not yet finished. Aligning objects and snapping for example still need some work until they recognise and work with art boards.
This will be improved as we move forward during the next Betas.

sergio got a reaction from helderfcs in Features necessary for UI design
If AD would support text styles, then the ability to use eye dropper to import text and graphic (e.g. stroke) styles is a must too!
