I agree 100%! Actually I was wondering about it another how simpler it would be if we got the "scale with object" checkbox, placed on the transform palete.

It does this already, unless I'm misunderstanding something - select the "Show selection in layers palette" in the User Interface section of the preferences.

I know I've suggested a similar feature, but all this talk of smoothing curves brought this up in my mind; in addition to a tool to smooth a curve, Affinity Designer should also have the opposite.  I am of course referring to Midpoint Displacement, which would allow illustrators to make non-uniform curves more easily than having to draw each node individually.

Being able to smooth curves is indeed important, but as it is, it's really hard to produce a line that doesn't look uniform, and a roughening tool to add pseudorandom midpoint displacement would make illustrating much less time-consuming.

I'm pretty good friends with the vector side of AD, but recently I've been spending some time getting to know the raster side. I also got a copy of Affinity Photo as well, and so far it's really good. I spent my lunch breaks last week making and playing with brushes, this is the first thing I've used some of them for. Not quite 100% finished I don't think, but we'll see when I get round to doing any more on her.

I absolutely love the history feature in Designer! It goes beyond any other similar tool that I've used in the past. However, I think there is a feature that could be added that would make it even better.

    Problem:

When traversing your history, it is very easy to accidentally perform an action, like deselecting an object, thereby erasing all the other "future" actions from the history panel. From what I can tell, this cannot be undone.

    Requested Feature:

Whenever you make a change while traversing your history, branch the history so that you are able to return to the original branch/path.

In this case if you ask us to dream...  :)

Aside a very welcome Alignment Studio (which can be always open and floating around, without forcing me to access a pop-up anytime) I'd love to see an "abstract replicate tool".

I'll try to explain this chimera the best I can:

Basically you select an object with a tool that can define if you want a matrix/radial distribution, and a mirror checkbox

    With Matrix
You have on-page controls to define columns/rows, spacing, maybe relative object rotation too.
With Mirror ON each clone result in a mirrored copy alternately.

    With Radial
You have N axis to clone it.
You can place as much axis as you need, also you can offset/rotate axis with on-page controls.
With Mirror ON all these instances are mirrorred copies.

    So with

Radial - 1 axis and Mirror On you have a Mirror Tool Radial - N axis and Mirror On you have a sort of Kaleidoscope Tool Radial - N axis and Mirror Off you have a Radial Replicate Tool
If this could be packed as a sort of Symbols' extension (*) too, or a Smart Group that allows to rig these parameters and modify later it would be awsome.
    Does it make any sense?

(*) Matt I know you're reading, so this could make your mind spin a bit...  :)

    Hi ggt667,

Open Preferences > User Interface, tick Show Selection in Layers Panel and then Close. Now when you right click an object it will highlight that object in the Layers Panel.

As an exercise, I knocked up this illustration. I'm thinking of migrating to a simpler, more easily achievable style of illustration. Up to now, I've been painting everything in acrylics and then digitising the results.  I've found AD every bit as good as Illustrator so far. This took me all morning, so I hope to get faster eventually.
    All the best,
    Kevin

I'm not sure 'thats what they're meaning. I'd presume they're referring to the way that the lines drawn with the  brush tool (and the pencil tool) don't keep every nuance of the hand drawn line. The bumps and kinks get smoothed out. Sometime's you might want that, but sometimes you might want to keep it exactly as drawn. In Illustrator, if you double click on the brush/pencil tool you get options to change the amount of smoothing applied.

For the record, I always keep the smoothing to 0% as I don't want the program trying to interpret what I want to do.
