  1. Only a small gripe, but when you use a vector layer as a mask, to get to the layers inside the mask you need to right click>expand on the layer, then you can see the layers and the expansion arrow appears in the circle to the left of the layer. Why isn't the arrow visible as soon as the mask is made so you can expand/collapse without having to right click? An even smaller gripe, the arrow sits off-centre in the circle. Does it need the circle? Why not just the arrow?
  2. Also, in addition to the question above, is it possible to set the default views for when you activate split view? I work in the vector view and would love to be able to start split view to see vector/outline views, but it always defaults to vector/pixel.
  3. Any idea when this might be? Working on an illustration at the moment and need this, don't really want to have to shift across to another program just to try and patch it.
  4. Apologies if this has been covered before, I searched the forums but couldn't see anything along the same lines. Is it possible to distort/shear objects in AD, or will it be (and if so when)?
  5. Is it envisaged that AD would be used for multi-page documents, etc? I would have thought that would be the domain of Affinity Publisher.
  6. What's the difference between artboards and pages?
  7. If I'm understanding the question correctly, the document is A3 size, 300 dpi. The attachment is cropped down to show a bit more detail, there's an area of image around it and then a further area of white space around the whole image acting as a pasteboard.
  8. Could you not split all the groups into separate layers using Layers > Release to Layers (Build)? You'd still end up with hundreds of extra layers, but at least relevant groups would be together and could be reorganised easily.
  9. Thought it was time I tried doing something start to finish in AD, so here's a work in progress pic of it.
  10. Hi all, I've just realised that despite registering on here months and months ago, I don't think I ever introduced myself. I'm Simon, I'm an illustrator/designer from the UK with over 10 years experience. I started initially using Photoshop 7, then Freehand 5.5, before I discovered Illustrator and became a vector addict. I still have Adobe CS5 on my mac at home, but I refuse to go the CC subscription route, so I was incredibly excited when I saw AD was being developed. I bought it when it was first released, but sad to say I haven't really had time to sit down and use it a lot since:( Trying to make up for that now though. www.houseofdeadleg.co.uk / dribbble.com/houseofdeadleg
  11. Something like this?;) http://astutegraphics.com/software/phantasm/
  12. Ah, wasn't sure if it was some sort of filter/image, etc.
  13. Just realised I have one invite left if anyone's still looking for one?
  14. Quick update to my earlier post- I managed to get the pattern all done in AD in the end, just needed to go back a bit. At first I was adding a section of the pattern, rasterising to mask, and then trying to add/duplicate the pattern further, which was causing problems. So I went back a few stages, did all the duplicating, etc first, grouped all the copies together and then rasterised to mask.
  15. For me the ability to add a transparent tiff and recolour it using the swatches is critically important. As has already been mentioned in this thread, this is something that can easily be done in the Adobe suite and as far back as at least Freehand 5.5. I've tried using the rasterise to mask method, and while it works it's not really a substitute for simply placing a file and picking a colour, and can be a bit hit or miss. It's also too fiddly if you then need to duplicate a section. For example: I'm trying to overlay a pattern on a section of wall in an illustration. I have a strip of pattern which I want to repeat that has been rasterised to mask. If I duplicate the mask it then starts to mask the first instance of the mask when I try to move it. Theres no way to merge the masks as far as I can see. I'm thinking I'm going to have to go back to Illustrator to finish this one.
  16. I'm on dribbble – https://dribbble.com/houseofdeadleg – no affinity work on there as yet, and no invitation as at the moment I'm afraid.
  17. If you double click each point you want to select they can be moved together.
  18. I would disagree with this wholeheartedly. It depends on the profession of course, but I spend most of my day in Illustrator and InDesign, Photoshop comes after that on the list. Plus of course there are X number of full time illustrators who spend all day everyday (apart from tea breaks) in Illustrator, who may never touch programs like InDesign/Photoshop. Having a viable alternative to Illustrator is going to be a positive boon for a lot of people. I havent had chance to investigate as yet but I'd be interested to see how well Affinity plays with After Effects…
