Sparkway reacted to RMcK in Select Same Colour
The above two posts are a great example of what I'm taking about! As a freelance production artist and designer of 20 years, Live Trace and Select (same fill colour, same stroke etc.) are essential to move Designer from merely a vector illustration program to a production art powerhouse for CAD work, packaging design and logo work. Would really like to see these two options in Designer update.

Nice! That's about the last thing I miss from Illustrator. Will give the BETA version a try. Cheers, Bruce

Logged in to find out how to disable or slow down color picker. Bummer. It’s irritating the way it is. You have to be slow and precise for fine detail which is impossible now. Please provide us with an option to disable or alter this feature.
Thank you.

Bump, same as other people have mentioned, very frequently I end up activating color picker by accident, please add an option to disable this.

Also looking for a way to disable the colour picker. It’s absolutely maddening. I’m on an iPad Air 2, so sketching with my finger, and don’t have the precision of an Apple Pencil. I keep switching the colour to the white background, making drawing very frustrating.

Too bad that after so much time this issue still is not fixed.
I'm mostly a "ink" illustrator, working with black lines all the time. I don't need color picker to show most of the time... and it happens ALL THE TIME, color switches from black to white (my bg) or wide grey spectrum when my palm lays on sketch underneath.
I bought an app that is not usable at this point. Frustrating to say the least.
Please let us disable the color picker gesture!

Sparkway reacted to Stepan Pazderka in Photo on iPad, the iCloud sync madness
Let me start quite harsh. I hate the current state of document handling of Affinity Photo on iPad. It makes all the simple operations extremely confusing. Every single app on my iPad has adopted simple way of working with files, if you want to create new file, your file gets created in the specific app folder on iCloud Drive. iWork works this way, Pixelmator Photo works this way, Pixelmator works this way. Etc.
However, apps in Affinity Photo on iPad are not stored in iCloud Drive by default. Heck, they are not even stored in local files app. No. They are effectively stored in restricted local app storage, outside of iCloud Drive, outside of files. Affinity calls these files “open”. Meaning they are somehow opened in Affinity Photo. Technically, they are just file copies inside of restricted affinity photo app storage.
Why this bothers me? Because whenever I create duplicate of files, or new file in Affinity Photo, I name it, I also have to remember to save it inside iCloud Drive. I have to do this every single time when I want to save changes.
All my file structure inside of Affinity Photo (meaning projects) does not propagate into iCloud Drive either. Which means, if I delete the app, I loose all my files.
Why Affinity? Why? Are you trying to mess up my head? Stop trying to reinvent the wheel, just do things how they are meant to be done.

Files with history are very large and take longer to open and save so keeping them open just like tabs on a browser in the internal sandbox makes sense and this is different from the other apps you mentioned.
When you save outside of the app into an external area, the history is stripped, unless you choose not to, to reduce the file size and provide a faster open time.

@Stepan Pazderka - i'm also pretty confused on the file handling of affinity. This should be primary focus for the next version.
How is everyone else dealing with it?

Sparkway reacted to amatheus in Affinity Designer on iPad should auto save files and use iCloud File Browsers and model
Today it's very strange to share files between affinity designer on iPad and Mac.
On the iPad I must open the file and then explicitly save when I want changes to be reflected on iCloud.
This is a very strange model for the iPad where in general apps auto save files automatically, specially when saving on the iCloud.
Besides, there's separate files on the iPad and when you open the file from iCloud it appears on the initial screen of Designer, which is very strange. Other applications today just show the system file browser which makes much more sense.
So I would like to request auto save and use of the system file browser on iOS to be more in line with how iOS apps operate.

Sparkway reacted to iuri in Managing Affinity Files - save on iCloud vs iPad Drive? Pros & Cons
Quick Background:
I have Affinity Photo for both iPad and Mac and use is since 2017 (on and off as hobby). My main use is on the iPad and since 2019 i've started making big files (10.000px vs 7.000px) and many layers, some files are 1GB. I've had many crashing issues in the last 4 months (with older Affinifity Photo versions, then i got tired and stopped using it) where i lost my lastest editing since it wasn't automatically saving the file on the iCloud Drive (had set it to 'Save on iCloud' and even sometimes i clicked 'save' it didn't save the file on iCloud, because after crashing i saw i lost 30min, 1h work. I've resolved it idiotically by doing 'Save a Copy' into iCloud by every major editing i did (and this with 500, 700MB files isn't ideal). So I've just deleted Affinity Photo from my Mac and iPad, also manually deleted the 'Affinity Photo' from both iCloud Drive & iPad Drive folders and also deleted the Backup Folder. Now i'm ready to start afresh and would love to hear how you deal with files and folders... specially people dealing with big files on the iPad:
Where do you save your files: iPad or iCloud Drive directly? Do you use the 'Affinity Photo' folder or some external iCloud/iPad Folder? If I open a file from iCloud, anytime i click Save, will it save it over this file? or into the 'Affinity Photo' folder in the iPad or iCloud? i know it creates these folders once i've installed Affinity. How many projects/files do you have on your iPad? Once you finish an artwork, do you save it on iCloud/iPad/USB and then 'close' the file to cleanup Affinity? I've had 30+ projects open, so not sure if this was also helping to crash Affinity. thanks

Sparkway reacted to MEB in Is there any hope for opening Illustrator EPS files?
Hi Bmuse,
Welcome to Affinity Forums
The Affinity apps are only able to read/access the PDF stream contained in the Ai file if it includes one otherwise they won't display anything (the Ai file must be saved with PDF compatible file ticked/checked). The Ai data is private/closed. We aren't able to read it. Same for the EPS files. We only have access to the EPS data. Adobe Illustrator embeds Ai data when saves the files as EPS which is what it uses to load them back and keep everything editable. The EPS format itself doesn't support gradients meshes, blend modes or any type of transparency. That's why EPS files submitted to stock sites must be Illustrator compatible - so users can edit all objects.

Sparkway reacted to just211 in Plugin-Support for Designer
Being in "day 1" of my testing period it is pretty clear to me that at least "Photo" and "Publisher" would be capable of replacing the current used A-suite.
In case of "Designer" I do have concerns because of a Roland Plugin that I have to use on a daily base with Illu.

Fontself, a plugin to create fonts in Photoshop and Illustrator has contacted Serif back in 2016 itself.
Yet, we didn't hear anything +ve from Serif! It's quite sure that there will be more plugin-makers who're interested to extend support for Affinity products.

This could really push them forward in the production companies (not only focussing on designers), for print production and cnc technics... i would love to see this development in this direction... try to keep this tread alive..

Sparkway reacted to MEB in Image Trace to Vector Path
Hi Willy Pimentel,
No, not yet. Currently you have to use third-party apps for that. If you search the forums for tracing and similar terms you will find quite a few suggestions for apps/services you can use. We are considering adding a tracing tool assuming the dev team achieves the output quality they are aiming for but it will take quite some time until we get there.

I'm trying to draw a bit of attention to a very simple API but one that could be really powerful. I believe the more support it gets better the changes we are heard this time.

Would like support for the Astute Graphics line of plug-ins!
They enhance Illustrator greatly.
