Perhaps I am missing something, but I initially understood that if a stack were built in multiple file groups, then those would be stacked separately and would result in corresponding stacked images. In version 2.03, it just creates one stacked image using all of the file groups I created. If I am using this wrong, I would appreciate better instructions. What I am trying to do is incorporate images of the Orion Nebula that are taken at different exposures into one document so that I can eliminate some of the blown out bright areas. Thanks.

I am one who came to Affinity because of the Adobe subscription model. I don't mind paying for worthwhile upgrades every now and then.

I was having the same problem with the same setup and disabling Nahimic solved the problem. However, I have no idea what Nahimic does and if I will need it operational at some point.

Thanks for such great work on Affinity Photo! Your fixing of the XMP metadata issue resolved one of my biggest heartburns. Now, just come up with a Lightroom replacement and I can completely shed dependence on Adobe products.

I have the same issue with Canon RAW files.

Happens to me too with Canon 70D RAW files. joirsmak's explanation is interesting. How would that be useful to have that capability... has anyone tried messing around with it?

I hate to compare Affinity Photo to Photoshop, but I have found a couple of issues that need more flexibility: 1. The chromatic aberration tool in develop is very weak. This needs to be developed further to allow user input to adjust the strength of the application of chromatic aberration reduction. I have a number of photos of the supermoon where the tool makes absolutely no difference whatsoever. If there is another tool or layer that can correct chromatic aberration, I have not found it. Photoshop is able to remove almost all of the very strong chromatic aberration from these files. 2. Is appears that Affinity Photo does not recognize the same dynamic range in my Canon 70D RAW files as Photoshop does. I can tease a lot more dynamic range out of RAW files using the highlights/shadows sliders in Photoshop than I can in Affinity. I have also tried using curves, and can still get more from Photoshop. While some of this may be attributable to my greater experience with PS, when I have tried to do direct comparisons with just the sliders, I can still get more out of PS. I still think Affinity has tremendous promise and is more powerful in some ways than PS. I'm still learning a lot about Affinity Photo and am finding a lot that I like, I particularly like that I can work in different color spaces in separate layers. I do a lot of work in Lab, but often need to go back to RGB for finishing touches. PS makes me flatten the image when moving between color spaces, and therefore locking in my Lab adjustments. I posted previously about a washing out problem with stacking. This still seems to be happening. My previous post is here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/28248-median-and-other-stacking-washing-out/ I still continue to have the problem with version 1.5.0.38 The attached two files show the difference in the histogram between a stack of 3 files and one of the originals. All were shot at the same focal length and exposure.

Not sure if you were able to fix this for the newest beta release. Still having the same problem. The washing out problem seems to be at least partially fixed in the focus merge (see separate post).

I tried again in the new release. Much better, but I still feel like i have lost some of the dynamic range or it is still washing out the final file a little bit. I added the files I was trying to use to the dropbox above.

I often use multiple levels layers that are masked off differently in Photoshop. When I try this in Affinity, it simply reverts me back to the first levels layer I created. Is this a glitch or am I doing something wrong? Won't let me create a second levels layer. It is also a problem with other layers, such as curves.

I tried to upload the files but got this error: "You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file." however, was able to compress them into .zip files and upload.70D-8523.zip70D-8524.zip70D-8525.zip

I tried creating a stack of photos of the full supermoon using the RAW CR2 files from my Canon 70D and the resulting stack was brighter than any of the individual photos. I tried both median and average - no change. Since I was having similar problems with the focus stack, I'm hypothesizing that the problem is in reading the RAW files. I have not had a problem yet with a regular panorama or individual files. Once fixed, this looks to be a very useful feature.

LAB A and B channels are actually channels of color opponents of each other so Affinity is representing them correctly. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lab_color_space This is one of the most powerful tools I use and I really like the way Affinity has implemented it where only the layer is in LAB whereas Photoshop makes you convert the whole image to LAB then back again. I have not checked, but in theory it seems that Affinity's implementation might be less "lossy" than Photoshop.

It seems to work OK when the RAW files are converted to jpegs, although by starting with jpegs I don't have enough dynamic range to do many adjustments. For some reason the board is not letting me upload the final result. My original RAW files are too big to upload.
