On one of the Facebook groups, David Williams set me an accidental challenge by mentioning Expand Stroke was a function only available in Affinity Designer.
Well now you can use Expand Stroke in Affinity Photo on all platforms by importing my Mud’s Macros library.
To create this I needed to record a macro, which is only available in AP. The command I needed was in AD so how to get it?
I started in Affinity Publisher on desktop with a blank document, changed to AP persona and started record, then changed to AD persona and performed Expand Stroke from the menu, then switched back to Photo persona and ended the recording. Simples, eventually !
Mud’s Macros V3
SelectionFromLayer - convert a layer into a pixel selection
SelectAllLayers - select all layers quickly
DeSelectAllLayers - de select all layers quickly
PencilPortrait - Convert Photo to pencil sketch (Credit: Alpha Sierra, YouTube)
InpaintCrop2 - fix edges after a straighten crop (Credit: Jim Welsh)
Inpaint - the inpaint option from the desktop.
ExpandStroke - Expand Stroke from Designer
TextOnCurve - Text on a curve path from Designer
And here it is in action on iPad, but the macro also works on desktop versions of Photo as well.

Both versions of "Flip" (Document and Arrange) are available for assignment to keyboard shortcuts. One less mouse movement and button press.

angelhdz12 reacted to matt in Turn off antialiasing
Need this again today, designing for Playdate (monochrome/black-and-white display with no antialiasing) handheld console.
It's so disappointing that we currently have to use another tool to do this.

Needing the again. Gah, this gets me down more than it should!

I'd also love the ability to "switch off anti-aliasing"
I design in vectors but want to view/render/export as solid colour pixels.
What are the chances?
Do I really have to use Illustrator?

Chipping it to say I've been using Affinity for pixel work and it's been a rather unfortunate experience solely because of the lack of this one simple feature. Hope you can get around to it soon enough.

It is called Tolerance and it is on the Context Toolbar. Higher levels fill more semitransparent areas.

angelhdz12 got a reaction from hokic in Update Embedded Document
Adding a "Update" button so the embedded document updates.
I use Photo the most, because I can work both with vectors and rastered images and use all the pixel editing tools, also Photo has Live Filters.
But, when I want to mount everything in artboards in Designer, and I embed my assets, they don't auto-update, or at least there is no update button. Having to click on Replace Document, find the document, click ok, in order to update changes is not practical.
Auto-update would be even better but it's optional.
Thank you.

Hey guys!
Is in your plans allowing programmers to control the affinity programs with code? Like commands/actions in Python, C# or Javascript? Preferibly Python or C#.
So we programmers can develop commands/actions that people can install or run to execute certain tasks.
I need a definitive answer to this, to see if it's worth waiting for it, or a definitive NO!
Thank you!

No matter what features the devs add to the app, there will always be people with more specialized use cases who can leverage scripting to automate tasks that would otherwise be repetitive.
There are largely two categories of use cases with different sets of requirements:
One is a need to automate tasks within the application itself. If someone is repeatedly doing something basic that may well be specific to their line of work which would not be a good fit for a general feature of the program, a scripting language integrated into the application can often create specialized functionality that could help to avoid repeatedly doing the same task for those users. This is the use case that most of the people who are arguing Python vs. Lua vs. Javascript etc. are likely thinking of. This feature would benefit more of the individual layout artists and designers compared to the other bullet point below, as it would enable them to more efficiently tailor the software for their individual needs and workflows. The other major use case is the need to integrate multiple applications by tying together programs that each do some specialized task. This one cannot be handled by a programming language that is integrated into the application but rather by having the application support the OS-provided scripting languages so that multiple applications can be tied together by a script to automate tasks that no one of the programs could do by itself. This is the use case that the AppleScript users are mostly thinking of (or OS-provided JavaScript/VBScript - OSA/WSH/etc.) as it enables control of multiple applications from within the scripting language, a case that could not be readily handled by an embedded Python, Lua, etc. interpreter. This is a critical capability in some production environments and would benefit some individual artists/designers as well. In both cases, it boils down to providing support for more specialized needs without otherwise bloating the functionality of the app itself trying to handle every little corner case that every possible user might come up with, and both sets of requirements will be important to different users.
Dashboard is still there. If AppleScript does fall into disuse, it is more likely to lose out to Swift than to JavaScript, at least in the Apple world. (Yes, Swift can be used as a scripting language...)

Any progress/updates on this issue? I'm really fed up with the arrogant bastards from Adobe. We really need an alternative to the scripting features of Indesign, as well as the Indesign Server solution... My list with Adobe frustrations is getting way to long... Life is to short for that crap ...

I'm looking to get invested into Affinity software. I love the programs so far, but scripting is a must have for me.
Did we get an official decision from Serif if scripting is going to be supported in the future? If yes, any rough timelines?
Most of my commercial work is DTP process automation and pre/postprocessing with Photoshop Illustrator and InDesign.
I see many people posting preferences for scripting languages in this thread, so I'll give my view on it as well:
- Python has huge amount of libraries for most tasks, and in recent years became supported by an increasing amount of applications. Many people learn it as their first language in the academia, and it's steadily growing in popularity in the last 15 years. (source: https://insights.stackoverflow.com/survey/2019 and https://pypl.github.io/PYPL.html)
- Javascript is the original cross-platform language supported by the Adobe ExtendScript software. A lot of people using the Affinity software for UI design and web development most likely come with it as part of their skillset.
Personally, either is OK for me, with a heavy preference towards Python.

This is a feature that would be very useful to me too. Regularly processing tens of thousands of aerial images, and affinity does good things with raws pretty quickly (would be nice to see batch working more reliably and more use of GPU too, but parallel processing is very effective on my system)

This is also needed for smart object compatibility in order to import mock-up templates correctly.
And need to be applicable to embedded documents too.
