Thanks for the mock-up. An updater app running in the background has been suggested before, particularly useful given StudioLink and how the apps are best kept in sync.

angelhdz12 reacted to ateleman in Layer Sort / Sorting Follow up
I agree ! It would be great if it were possible to sort and/or select layers based on the layer type (e.g. all pixel layers, or all Rectangle layers, all text layers, etc).
For instance, if I paste a graph from Graphpad Prism into an AP file, I end up with hundreds of layers (e.g. one for each data point in the graph) and would like to
change their color all in one go...
I see this has been requested a lot, but in the wrong forum:

+1 for me. I spend literally hours scrolling up and down the layer list, looking for the right layer

I miss this too. It's very helpful for big documents with lots of named layers.

Search by layer type (pixel, group, vector, mask, adjustment filter, live filter)
Search by blend mode
Search by name/layer description
Search locked/unlocked layers
Search visible/hidden layers
Search all layers with "x" FX applied to them

I've posted a lot in a thread called Scripting. Please allow us to use Javascript, TypeScript, C# or Python to make plugins! Affinity SDK!!!

This version 2 better have all the greatly missed functions like bitmap vector tracing and vector manipulation.

People expecting *lifetime* updates on a $50 purchase... you like new stuff right? Nothing just materializes out of the air, it takes work. Work is paid for.

I will refine my tip on 22.2.2022, ideal date for the release of version 2, or 2.22? :-)

This is the key - Affinity are working on the tools and forgetting about the result (getting the job done). Here's an analogy. I have a really nice Dewalt cordless screwdriver. It's a fantastic tool I enjoy using but if I had to screw in 5000 screws it wouldn't matter how good the tool is the job becomes slow, boring and uneconomical. This is why companies use robotics in manufacturing - it's essentially mechanical scripting.
No matter how pretty and elegant the interface, I don't want to have to have to create 100, 500, 1000 PDFs manually. Or manually place images, create boxes, format text and export to our RIPS. We do these tasks thousands of times a week (literally). This is why Affinity Publisher is just pipe dream for us right now.

This is definitely not a “critical” or “essential” tool. It’s a nice-to-have, but in no way is it necessary. Some of you are seriously as bad as children with how you “demand” things.

angelhdz12 reacted to alanoctua in Shape builder tool
I was also looking for the shape builder function in the app and confused when couldn't find it since I remember reading a tweet about this by Serif 4 years ago. (dudes, when you promise something please take a look at your Twitter, at least delete it ) However it seems like one of the marketing team promises that engineering team could never really cared/figured.
To the people who defends the lack of the feature, it's just unbelievable. Shape builder does not just add shapes. It adds, divides, deletes, closed shapes or just intersecting lines without the need of excessive copies of the same shape. It's the most used command when building geometrical work. I just select the area, press alt+m, quickly clearing out the guidelines and create the geometry in just 15 seconds, done.
While doing a professional job, time matters most. If a time saving feature like this is overlooked for years, then the software is just not well suited for professional work.
I really really hate Adobe and I bought all of your apps the day they released for iPad. Moved out from Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop *almost*. I just want to ditch all of the Adobe software from my process but still there's a gap.
Please give us a clear answer about when or if this feature and the image tracking is coming to affinity!

angelhdz12 reacted to sfriedberg in Shape builder tool
With the (several) requests for a shape builder tool, it apparently is something useful. As a long-time Corel user with essentially no time in Adobe tools, I had never even heard of a shape builder tool before reading, in these forums, how essential one is. Yet, somehow, being ignorant of such a thing, I have never felt the lack, nor have ever felt hampered in constructing complex shapes from simpler ones. (Pretend oblivious naive cynicism mode off)
I heavily use boolean operations (they have different names in CorelDRAW, but they are the same basic operations) together with raw path editing operations (add vertex at apparent intersection, split curve at vertex, join curves at vertex, drag verticies and Bezier handles around). Seems to build shapes quite well. I will have to go read up on what shape builder does. From the example given in the initial post in this thread, it appears to be something that could be scripted in CorelDRAW and added to the hotkey assignment and/or the toolbars. Of course, AffDes doesn't have scripting yet, but it does have all the basic operations.

Javascript is the right choice, look around you guys.
Lua or python should be ok too, but what matters is to have a way to script exporters.

Regarding the scripting language, Javascript sounds to me the more modern approach:
Take a look here on how to embed a very performant engine (the one used by Nodejs) :

I hope that we can get scripting soon. We are big company and we could save a lot on licenses with Affinity. But we can't start using Affinity without script support. My personal preference is TypeScript and we need WebSockets.

angelhdz12 reacted to Xzenor in Affinity Designer-things that make you go hmmmm..
Get a tutorial or something. Don't blame the software of your own ignorance.
You don't even respond to the answers you've gotten. You're only bitching about how hard it is.
it's not gonna get any better with that attitude.
Read a manual or watch a tutorial. Put the effort in to understand the difference between pixels and vectors and don't expect to understand it all overnight.
