Each configuration is different, but I tested ID CS6 on Mojave, and it didn't work. It did run, but opening any panel took forever. The usual font cleaning solution didn't work. I had to go back to High Sierra. I would be happy to read of positive experiences, so that I can try again upgrading.

I thought this was an Affinity Support forum? Just curious ;)

@Patrick Connor why not just close this topic and stop the circular firing squad in its tracks?  There are certainly enough asked and answered posts for anybody considering making the switch from Adobe and in his or her right mind to grasp the subject!  I am sure that multiple thousands of us — like me — who had used InDesign are now very happily using Publisher with the PDF workaround for old files.  It may take a bit of fiddling to get those files up to speed, but it is well worth not being stuck behind the rental prison bars.  Publisher beats InDesign hands down!!

My sentiments exactly, I follow this and many other forums but get tired of the repetitive nature of comments, questions that eventually create and unwieldy thread that achieves little to the point you ignore the thread and potentially miss any relevant information.

I think people who spend some time in this forum quite soon get the gist and know what is to be expected and what not. Let people wish, demand, hope, beg, vote etc. and do not take it too personally – this is the internet.

Of course if you invent better ways to interact the customers why not... but keep coding.

Yes it is the internet but we can try to avoid the unwarranted diatribe that is directed at Serif. Credit to them for spending the time to respond but if it continued unabated then, like many other developers, they may ignore the forums altogether and that would be a sad loss.

Perfect!!  Perhaps also included in each HELP, or at least a cross-reference to the FAQ in the Forums?   For all of those -- like me -- who faced the initial blank screen the first time I opened Photo (the first of the three apps I purchased) and thought, "Now what?" it would be priceless.

    Agree!

He said "No" because the newbie, or indeed anyone here, cannot "vote" for anything. He didn't "block" anything, he stated a fact. This needs to end now

Totally agree that this thread no longer serves any purpose. There is a workaround using pdf that works for some and not for others. I find it incredulous that people are going as far as "demanding" answers or timelines for the developers to provide a solution to importing another company's file format. To my knowledge Serif never advertised that as a "future feature" for their product yet they are being castigated by a few who see that as a prerequisite to using Affinity. If it is a prerequisite, get over it and stick with your current software that can cost you every month what the one off price of the Affinity product costs. You can then leave the rest of the more than happy Serif customers to read meaningful threads on the real benefits and value that Serif have brought to the market. As raised by @Haakoo, Serif probably need another method of responding to feature requests.

I'm also interested in switching from InDesign to Publisher. Reading this thread has raised a good point -- I have maybe 10 years worth of old InDesign files archived. They're all organised very well and I know what's what, so when I need an element or to reference an idea or something I did way back, I can find it easily.

What's the best way to preserve this? I suppose a PDF would allow me to "view" what I did in the past, but if there was some artwork that I wanted to copy over into Publisher, is there a format I could use that would allow that? As opposed to me re-designing said artwork from scratch in Publisher?

You can open the PDF with Publisher and Publisher does a pretty good job whereby the elements are editable. That's what I do and it works well for me.

  5. The team have done a wonderful job in creating this software. Users will always seek refinements that their own situation demands but for me there are workarounds that I can get by with and given the cost of the product compared to the Adobe offerings, patience is the least I can offer to say thanks for breaking the mold!

Great job on all your products Serif!

  6. I think the most disappointing part of all this is the lack of a definitive response from Serif. I asked this question also in 2016. Since then I use a quick workaround (I use a Mac with Mojave) Using Automator I have created a "Quick Action". Once done I right click on a file, select Quick Action and then convert to (from jpg) BMP. I originally set this up as another Quick Action to convert HEIC files (produced from my iPhone) to jpg. Here is the How To link.

  7. Hi,

I have tried to create a drop shadow around a rectangular image (in AF Photo) but I am having no luck This is what I am looking to do. I have previously taken the image, added another transparent layer and made that   say 10pixels wider than the image and added outer shadow. I can't get that to work now? I must be doing something wrong?

Looking forward to some help please?

    Thanks,

    George

  8. I am stuck on this as well, having to resort to other tools to generate the BMP. Many things still require files in BMP format which cannot be avoided.

It would be nice if the moderators would provide some feedback to our comments. After all this is a "Feature Request" area and the initial request is more than a year ago/

  9. I would like the BMP export feature also. As it is I now have to use Pixelmator to do this whereas I had hoped BMP which is a standard format, would have been available in Affinity. I left PS for Pixelmator and then Pixelmator to Affinity. Whilst there is no BMP export option, I'll have to stick with Pixelmator to do those conversions (which is a shame).

I need BMP because I have some hardware that uses BMP images in the icons.

  10. Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I had tried both suggestions but I am obviously doing something wrong. I had watched that video previously but I cannot replicate the results. E.g. I select the aircraft, then I select [layer mask] as per video but unlike the video where the background disappears and there is a transparent background, nothing changes?

The low resolution is due to the target for the image is a program that requires a 192x144 image. I have attached a larger image of a similar aircraft that I also tried. (PS: I cannot seem to get the same accuracy with the magic wand tool without a lot of manipulation even when the colours seem to be well contrasted).

    I appreciate any advice/help.

Update: could not see where to attach an image
