Is it likely that Version 1.7 when it reaches final release will have the functionality to use multiple gradient strokes with gradient masks. I have posted this before, some while ago now but didn't get any definitive answer. I have a link here which demonstrates exactly what I'm meaning. I don't post YouTube videos but I have a lot of respect for this guy who does post videos and does exactly what I do and he is good at it. Watching this you will see how using multiple strokes on gradient transparency masks is a must when doing composting work. At present I find Affinity Photo holds me back, and I'm sure others, in this respect and would appreciate this functionality implemented sooner rather than latter to expand AP's capability.

Multi stroke gradient/ transparency masks!

Not sure Polygonius how to move this so I'll post the topic again in feature requests. I"m not absolutely sure if we are talking about the same thing. I will include a link to a YouTube video posted by a guy called Mir Rom which I have respect for as he is very good at what he does. I don't post videos so hence directing you to him to illustrate my post. Apologies in advance if this is what you posted about and I haven't understood. -
Page tab functionality
Raymondo replied to Raymondo's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Oh dear, you can quarantee a troll will come out of the woodwork when you post something here. Affinity forum has become almost like a Facebook’s troll platform. I have merely ask if Serif will give me an honest answer to a simple question which they have not even responded to. If the answer is “no” then fine but it will alienate a lot of professionals and design houses/ agencies etc from adopting APub. Why would you switch to a program that has less functionality. I think Thomaso that you under estimate why virtually all professionals engaged in design work use Indesign or Quark...there is a very good reason, and it’s not for whistles and bells! I’m, despite what you might think Tomaso, fully behind Serif but I think you need to understand, full page functionality is not a whistle and bell wish list. Oh and finally, Serif should not need anyone to convince them of page functionality as they have been around long enough to know how designers use layout programs. I appreciate Walt its not a bug and maybe the topic is not in the right place but it will probably be more to the fore here than elsewhere. -

There, all done Polygonius. I suppose I was having a lazy moment. -
Yes I might be getting boring now because I’ve logged this topic a number of times but I’ve yet to receive a definitive answer. Why no sign or inkling of expanding functionality to the page spread tab to create spreads of more than 2 pages in Publisher. I know we are still at an early stage of the beta process but it should not be a hard question to answer. I have asked this question a number of times but no real answer, how hard can it be, are you going to expand it, yes or no. Yes I’m well aware for now guides can be a way round but it’s not the long term solution. Both established competitors have full functionality to layout more than a 2 page spread and have the option to shuffle pages as you wish so AP should have this functionality in the final 1.7 release as a matter of course if Publisher really wants to be adopted by the professional graphic design fraternity. As things stand for producers of publications etc, Publisher is probably fine but for graphic designers, it is limiting. Come-on Serif, is Publisher aimed solely at producers of magazines/books etc or is it meant to be an all round page layout program to rival the likes of quark/InDesign? Which is it? Good and promising program by the way, shame if it’s going to be limited to a certain sector.

Thin blue line around text frame
Raymondo replied to Raymondo's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Walt now I get it. If you activate preview mode then it acts as AP and AD whereby you can use the move tool to activate and deactivate the blue container line. Fine, as long as I now know I can live with that. -

Raymondo replied to Raymondo's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Oh! That’s weird Walt I’ve just fired up Publisher, pulled in a text box with text and using the move tool, clicked outside the text box and low and behold the bounding box line now disappears. The “Show text box” is not ticked and was not before. Well I suppose all’s we’ll that ends well I guess. One thing I would ask you Walt, how is the text box any different from AP or AD, I’m not seeing where the difference is at the moment. -
Thin blue line around text frame
Raymondo replied to Raymondo's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Hi Walt Well, the thing is both in AP and AD clicking outside the text bounding box with the move tool makes the blue bounding line disappear. That’s just how it should work but in Publisher this doesn’t happen unless you select the node tool so I’m thinking this has to be a bug. You wouldn’t have a different behaviour for the text box In Publisher and have a different behaviour for AP/AD. Hopefully it will be corrected in next update. -
The thin blue line around text frame does not disappear when you click away. It does however disappear if you click on the node tool and click anywhere on the page. This can’t be right. I’m assuming it’s a bug. Also can’t seem to use the gradient function in fx. Won’t allow me to choose colours on gradient bar.

Hi Wtwolf just to say firstly I’m running OS Mojave on 27 inch iMac and I’ve got both Google version and DxO’s version. I’ve installed both versions (one at a time) and both work absolutely fine in AP 1.6.7. Both Nik versions in beta AP version don’t work. That to me says if both versions work fine in Mojave then it can’t be down to any fault of either DXO or Apples operating system. I still say the problem lays in the re-coding that’s been going on under the hood which I believe has somehow interfered with the plugin module.
-
I don’t see how it’s down to DxO as both DxO and Google’s versions don’t work and manifest the same issue. As the Google version works fine in version 1.6 and now doesn’t in 1.7 Beta version I see it as a problem having come about as a result of re-writing the code under the hood which Serif say they have been actively doing for a while to open up more potential for the software. I believe it’s down to Serif to sort out, clearly something in the code structure is causing a problem with plugins. Just as well Nik will work as a stand-alone until they get things sorted, so can still use but a bit of a hassle that’s all.
-
Just updated to version 1.7.0.101 but still no joy with getting Nik Collection to work properly. Also updated DxO to latest version. Need Dev team to look into this issue so we can get it to work again as this is a good plugin to have. As I said previously, seems rewriting the program under the hood has now introduced issues with some plugins.
-
I‘ve just covered this in a separate topic as I didn’t see this post. I’m running on Mojave, 27 inch iMac. I have the same problem. I’ve tried both the old google version and the DxO version and I get the same outcome, red window with message, updating fonts. All plugins show ok in preferences but it seems that since a lot of the program has undergone a rewrite there now appears to be a conflict. Everything works fine in version 1.6 so it’s got to be version 1.7 specific. Need some advice here team.
-
Further to my last topic I have managed to insta2ll Filterforge7 and that works fine. However, Nik collection is a different matter. I have managed to install the plugin but only 3 work (Pro Sharpener, Viveza and Define. All the rest don't work. When you click on any of the others you get a red window with a message saying updating fonts!! See attachments
-
Can’t seem to import plugins in version 1.7. Filterforge and Nik Collection work fine in version 1.6 but can’t seem to load any plugins whatsoever in 1.7. Anybody else having this problem or is it just me missing something?

Multi stroke mask/ transparency
Raymondo posted a topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
I did raise this topic a long while ago now but I thought I would bring it to the for again. In photoshop you can apply multi strokes to transparency mask until you’re happy but in AP you don’t have that ability. Would be nice to know if this is likely to be implemented in version 1.7 It may not sound like a big issue but it’s quite important in professional compositing. The only way at the moment to apply a mask from multiple angles it seems is to copy layer, copy layer etc and apply a new mask from the direction you want. Not good and not satisfactory for compositing work. I’m hoping the dev team actually recognise the importance of this issue in compositing work as at present it places a constraint on how AP can be applied in the professional workplace. -
Not a 3 page spread you can’t because at present you can’t create a 3 page spread without using guides...real pain! Need to have flexibility in page setup to create bespoke brochure folds etc. I don’t want to bang on about this because I’ve covered this extensively in the forum. Just need a straight answer from the developers. At present I can’t even get anyone to acknowledge that this is a valid issue.
-
Ok, latest update appears to have addressed this issue making my topic null and void. Still would like to know though if the functionality to create more than a two page spread and be able to change individual page widths as in InDesign and Quark will be implemented before commercial launch and if not, when?. Can’t seem to get a straight forward answer at the moment. This issue has been championed by others as well, so come on guys, you’re usually very good at responding positively to supporters questions.

Hi Must confess haven't looked at AP much since it came out as for me it's not advanced enough with page spreads or individual page width control but I thought I would have a little tinker around. Something that I don't get at the moment is if typing a numbered list and setting a tab stop, I can't seem to use back space key to push all text over to the tab stop. It does however seem to push the line across from the curser only the 2nd character in but refuses to carry all. Is it something I'm not doing. In InDesign the back space pushes the whole line from the curser point across to the tab stop. If I was doing a long listing then I would create a style but for this test I've used a short amount of text. It may well be some setting I'm over looking. Please advise.

Cover Spread Layout??
Raymondo replied to wyenphoto's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Yes that was how it used to be done but it was always subject to possible errors but setting out with InDesign has been a much more straight forward, quicker and safer way to do it. I'm not sure where you get this "misinformation" cheap jibe from, I think you must be watching too many Russian spy films!!!. What I have said is completely correct, I have not mislead the originator of this thread, using guides IS the only way to mark out a template at the present time and yes, I have not had any response from Serif on this issue to say this an oversight which will be rectified soon or before commercial launch, it might have allayed some of the negativity. I have always been very supportive of Serif and the Affinity range up until now and I have always given positive feedback but I feel that they are losing their way abit and throwing things out too soon without proper consultation with the professional community which to me seems to be the case with Publisher as there are so many glaring omissions that should have been there on release of the first beta. This topic is something that has been raised by a number of others in this forum which seems to concur with my views. Maybe you have time on your hands to lay designs out the old way but I do not in an ever faster moving design environment. Don't bother replying, I think we need to leave things right here. I won't be revisiting this thread as I have said all I need to on this issue. -
Cover Spread Layout??
Raymondo replied to wyenphoto's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Dazmondo77, I have pointed this issue of page tab functionality, or lack of it a number of times to Serif and I haven’t yet had a reply that acknowledges that it is an issue only that it might be something they might add in a future update. I said then and I’ll say again, Publisher should not have been released yet in beta form or anything else as it is way too raw for any self respecting creative designer to use. I personally think this may have had a very negative effect on the professional community. This was as I understand it where Serif were supposed to be aiming Their Affinity software at and I don’t think this messy piece of software has done anything great for their street credibility. I did have high hopes for this addition to the suite but it looks like it will be a long time before I will be able to adopt Publisher into my professional workflow. I think Adobe may well be laughing their heads off!! I would say this to Serif, again, go back to the drawing board and start consulting with professional design agencies and freelance designers to get a real world view of your software. You should never have put this out as a general public beta yet. -
Cover Spread Layout??
Raymondo replied to wyenphoto's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
The only way at the moment is to use guides but this is not a good way to do it. At present, publisher will not allow you to create more than a two page spread and have the functionality to change individual page widths. I have raised this issue, and it is an important issue but, and I might be wrong but here but Serifs response was not encouraging and there has not been any acknowledgement that this is considered an essential function. So for now I’m afraid it’s guides, guides guides. -
Book cover spine?
Raymondo replied to kimmarcussen's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
If I understand you right I’ve already flagged this up with Affinity that the pages tab should be capable of creating more than a two page spread and that it should have the ability to individually change page widths as in InDesign there by making it easy to create a book jacket with spine. Got a Luke warm response that it might, MIGHT be included at some time in the future.....don’t hold your breath as I got the impression they don’t think it a priority. This issue will prevent many creatives from switching while this issue persists.
