  1. I don’t know how many times I have to post this before the serif team will give me an open answer on this subject but this is such a glaring omission which should have been developed from the start. I would like to know why the decision to restrict the page set up to a 2 page spread was found to be a good idea. If you are designing books/magazines etc a 2 page spread is sufficient but if you are a creative you need to be able to layout pages with more than 2 pages and different sizes, I refer to both Quark and InDesign which both have this feature. Why oh why is this new kid on the block lacking such a feature in an established market, I don’t get it. I know there are those who say use guides, that may well be a short term answer but it’s definitely more fiddly and time consuming and not the way things should work in 2019. Please let’s have some joined up thinking Serif. Great software overall but at the moment it’s frustrating and a bit like being given a car without the keys to really drive it at pace. Can someone at Serif please just give me your reasoning on why the page layout feature needs to be this restrictive.

  2. I note now that DxO opens up and no longer gets a red window, however you still get this "updating font" business going on. Also DxO now opens the window and you do appear to be able to use the functions within DxO and they apply to the picture. Bad news is that beyond this you are stuffed as the program is then completely locked and the only way then is to force quit. Can someone please, PLEASE sort this out as this is so frustrating, always there but not quite. DxO and Serif need to lock heads and get this sorted. I"m assuming, maybe wrongly that it appears to be just this fonts thing so surely that can't be that hard to remedy.

  3. Casterie, I say this with respect but I'm not sure you are understanding what i’ve shown you in the video. Of course you can set a mask and apply a gradient in AP but what you can only do is apply one gradient from one direction and you can’t apply gradient stroke over gradient stroke. Only way to achieve same sort of function in AP is that you have to apply more and more masks to stroke from different directions. It’s not practical for composition work.  The gradient masks way of working is too long, cumbersome and not flexible enough for professional composition.

Sorry don’t mean to sound disrespectful so please don’t take my comments the wrong way.

  4. Hi casterle

Not very easy to explain in words so I'm going to suggest you look at the video I've found on the web which really shows exactly what I mean (I don't do videos myself).  Fast forward to around 13.30mins and watch until around 14.30 mins. I think once you see this you will know exactly what I mean. Sure you can use a brush but this is a much better/smoother and faster way when you are compositing. At the moment this is not possible in AP. Response from Dev team some while back when I first raised this didn't seem to indicate this was being considered, I can only hope the Dev team will pick up this post and revisit this lack of function in AP with a view to developing and implementing this in the near future.

  5. Yeah I have for years, almost as a bible made sure that I keep everything up to date, in fact my wacom is set to auto update so I'm never behind on that score. Just tried the mouse, as I thought it's made no difference. Didn't really expect it to. I'm using 27 " imac 2017 running 10.14.3. Let get this right, I'm assuming from your response that you don't have any problems with the guide issue I have here, is that right?

  6. I cannot let go of PS yet as there are too many UI function not yet in AP like the following:

    1) Ability to show brushes in other than list mode.
    2) Ability to accept patterns in FX
    3) Ability to change guide / grid colours
    4) Plugins still not yet fully developed
    5) Importing of styles from PS
    6) No Filter gallery
    7) Really hard to select tab movement in UI using wacom tablet
    8) Ability to toggle through brushes
    9) No true duotone feature
    10) No colour match feature
    11) No ability to multistroke masks as in PS (advised of this in previous post with regard to composition work).

Some of these are more wish list but the absense of some of the above is what keeps me tied to PS for now. I also appreciate some of these may be in development or being considered.

  7. Hi steeverdezines

Just replied to your post regarding the Nic collection. With regard to plugins generally and Affinity, it's a hit and miss affair at the moment, some plugins work, others don't. I believe they are mindful of improving this aspect as they progress with updates but at the moment I'm afraid it's patience required, I'm sure it will get better in time. I know Filterforge 7 works with the Mac version and I think I remember someone on the forum saying Topaz software work, Not sure about that though. A pain I know but things will improve with each update....I hope!

  8. Hi Steverdezines

Unfortunately Nic Collection does not work with the current 1.7 beta. I think there has been a number of discussions on this in the forum. Serif changed the code under the hood to make the software better function but in changing the code it has interferred with the Nic software compatibility. I'm not wholly sure but some people seem to say it works for them using the windows version. However the Mac version does not work currently. There appears to be conflicting views that Serif should sort it out and others seem to say DxO should update there software to latest code practice. So until someone takes responsibility I'm afraid like me you will have to use Nic as a standalone which you can do for now.

  9. To achieve the bevel and emboss on the black fill only as shown you need to create a copy first of your text or shape then turn it off temporarily (move to top level). Proceed to apply strokes as you wish to the underlayer. If you want to emboss etc the black text/shape fill only you then need to switch back on your top layer copy and apply fx emboss to this copy to achieve the fill emboss effect.

From a creatives point of view it would be an advantage to include a right click in the appearance panel whereby you could bring up the fx panel and apply effects to individual layers within the appearance panel as you can with stroke width and blending mode. This would avoid the above procedure and enhance the UI experience. Maybe this is something the dev team could take on board and include at some point. That said , I applaud the positive move forward that this update represents. If anyone has an easier way to achieve this effect, would be glad to hear it.
