*****UPDATE: WINNER HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED*****
...and we have a winner! DRUM ROLL PLEASE...
Congratulations to Katie Porter! :D
For those who didn't win, we are just putting together some freebie content we will be offering up on the Affinity Blog next week so I hope that softens the blow a bit and I hope you like them!
Thanks to all who took part, we really appreciate all your support
***********************************************************************************************
As you may know, we now have a few iPad Pros at Affinity HQ and will be starting to devote more time to developing versions of Affinity for it in the coming months.
They are incredible bits of kit, and we think—especially in conjunction with the Pencil (and Affinity when it's available!)—the iPad Pro will be a serious tool for creatives.
Want to get your hands on one? We're entering anyone who helps spread our amazing App of the Year news on social media into a free draw! All you need to do is: Follow us on Twitter and retweet this tweet OR Like our Facebook page and share this post The winner will be chosen at random and announced on this forum thread sometime on Friday the 18th December. Best of luck! Kate -
dapedMum reacted to Rigger73 in Affinity Photo 1.5 sneak peek: HDR and 360 image editing
Good to know. One reason I ditched Adobe PS/PSE was due to updating my Mac iOS, PSE12 became unusable. Adobe basically said tough, and I would have to buy PSE14. Only had PSE12 <4 months  !!!
I've only recently started using HDR techniques with my Canon 7D, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the new Affinity HDR persona can do!
Keep up the good work.

Hi, I'm Matt Priestley and I'm one of the Affinity developers. I'll try to help out on any topic, but particularly anything relating to tools, views and document drawing as they're the bits I'm mostly responsible for writing.
Feel free to join me and introduce yourself, too! :)

dapedMum reacted to Timber in New Branding for Affinity
Well, the new icons look busy and even less so tell one what the app does. I prefer the original older ones. They show more detail and the new one's looked rushed/pressured to be flat with less precision. The programs are great and deserve top flight icons. The newer icons just don't look "professionally done" to my eye.

Sketch feature thingy? I don't see anything anywhere similar to a "Sketch Feature" in AP. Which feature are you referring to?

dapedMum reacted to MEB in Google Nik Collection is now free for everyone.
Google has just announced that their Google Nik Collection composed of seven Photoshop plug-ins is now free for everyone.
Click here for more details. You can download them from here.
Currently Analog Efex Pro 2, Color Efex Pro 4, Silver Efex Pro 2 work with Affinity Photo. HDR Efex Pro 2 only works partially.

dapedMum reacted to JonathanBall in Set Tools to Respect Canvas Orientation?
Forgive me if this has already been addressed. I did some looking, but couldn't find anything.
In AD, is there a way to make tools such as align (object), text tool, and nudge respect the current rotation of the canvas with regard to creation and manipulation?
I'm sure it's no easy task, and understand why the program would behave this way—respecting the object's coord/origin according to the artboard—but it just seems counterintuitive at times.
Don't get me wrong, the ability to rotate the canvas is fantastic, especially when it comes to packaging work, but not being able to manipulate objects in an intuitive way when the canvas is rotated counteracts the benefit a little.
Thanks! :)

dapedMum reacted to Schubi63 in send crash report?
if AD has crashed ... I get automatically prompted by an OS X crash dialog.
Does it make sense to report that log file to Apple?
Will it be forwarded to Serif/Affinity Designer developer team automatically?
Or should I report this crash directly to the support/dev team instead?

After ditching my Adobe Design Suite membership last year, it is time to throw away my recent design tool (Sketch from Bohemian Coding) and choose Affinity Designer & Photo as the one and only primary professional web design tools.

dapedMum reacted to JonathanBall in Introduce Yourself
Hey there!
I'm an Adobe refugee seeking asylum. I'm a freelance graphic designer who specializes in lettering and typographic design.
I've been using Adobe products for a number of years, but recently became disenchanted with the subscription model so I decided to cut the cord. Don't get me wrong, Adobe products are amazing, but I don't want to pay for 37 apps when I only need 3. Plus, that price is only ever going to go in one direction—up—and I don't like being contractually obligated to it.
After looking for Illustrator alternatives I discovered Affinity Designer and I'm incredibly impressed with its capabilities. It's still missing a few fundamental things for me as a professional, but overall I'm amazed with so many aspects of the software that I don't mind hacking/muddling through things while it's being improved.
I'm excited to see where Affinity products go from here and happy to be a part of the growing community of those that have seen the light. :D

Congratulations guys!
This is well deserved.
The Affinity community is growing. 3 of my friends already bought the app after
using it on my mac!
Both AD and AP are solid apps.
Have a fabulous 2016!

dapedMum reacted to bpedit in New Branding for Affinity
Flatten the old icons if you must but please preserve the elements that help identify function. Sure, folks can learn to relate any icon to any particular program but what's the advantage of not having visual clues? Pencils, drawing; lens, photos. . . I get it right away.
I don't understand the heavy black border, especially on the left side.

The trial will be available in about one month.
[EDIT (4 Nov 2015)] The trial is already available here.

I don't like to criticise but to give some feedback at first look I prefer the old logos.
The new logos also feel cheap to me.
At first glance I would have to think a little longer which program each logo represents.

dapedMum reacted to deeds in Keyboard Shortcuts Cheat Sheet for Affinity Tools!
Some programs, if they were really smart, might go into a sort of "screen saver" all of their own, that perhaps floated around an image of something like this, with all the shortcuts in each different mode, and the modes selectable, so that the shortcut icons on the keys could be shown LARGE, for easy recognition.
The real dream would be having a visual cue sheet of the shortcuts on an iPad next to the computer, and pressing on them at any time to select the desired item, and it flashing up a keyboard shortcut to remind/teach the user how to become less dependent on the iPad for shortcuts, and progressively move to using the keyboard and modifier key combos.
