So it is not something i did. Takes a lot of space on my tablet.

Is "show guides" enabled ?

You can use a quick shape for this, place and adjust, select>selection from layer and delete

If you zoom in to the file where there a lot of nodes together you can see that on some places the curve is twisted causing the boolean operation not to work.

where the tree and the branches created with a stroke and expand stroke? there are a lot of these in the file: i think that's what is the cause

This happens when one of the curves in not closed

from the screenshot it looks like you have a very large document, zoom is 6% and you might want to turn on the brush context toolbar view>show context toolbar

Hint:

Export as svg should work

From the screenshot: it is not a vector file, but a raster file. You should export the original file as a svg or pdf, not jpg or png.

View>show context toolbar

Apply this to a object right click on the object and create style. It wil be saved in the styles panel

is the image a pixel layer? if not right click on the layer in the layerspanel and rasterize. and check in the context toolbar if the brush blendmode is set to normal, and current layer.

Try to change the brush in the brushespanel to one of the basic brushes
