Dear Affinity,
Hi, I am using the Move tool to scale objects in a composition . I can't figure out how to constrain the proportions so I don't accidentally distort the objects. Also I'd like to scale them from the center, not a corner.

It wouldn't, but what Walt is asking for is a 'New Layer from Selection Copy' command. After you've made a selection, invoking the command gives you a copy of the selection directly on top of the first but on its own layer (and all without replacing the contents of the system clipboard).
