Enable "Scale with object" in the strokes panel for the vectors that are not doing that. (You can select more than one vector layer to do this more quickly.)

You can scale by percent in the Transform panel. Enable the lock icon if you want to scale by percent in both X & Y directions.

For vector layers, holding down the shift key & dragging the control handles should constrain scaling to retain the X & Y proportions.

    Hi Lhx3,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
This is probably happening because you may be accidentally pressing ⌘ (cmd)  (or CTRL if you are on a Windows machine) and clicking on the layer's thumbnail in the Layers panel. Doing it creates a pixel selection with the contents of the layer. To get rid of the pixel selection just press ⌘ (cmd) + D on a Mac (CTRL + D on Windows) or go to menu Select ▸ Deselect as @R C-R pointed out.

R C-R got a reaction from uffelfinn in My "Move Tool"
"Background" is just the default name given to a photo layer when you import it. It has no special significance other than there is a preference in the User Interface section to automatically lock it on import. That option is on (checked) by default, so that is why the move tool could not select it.

If you edit it, say by applying a destructive filter from the Filters menu (which you can do even to a locked layer) & then save the results without saving the history or any snapshots with it, that is a destructive process. Layer effects, Live filters, & adjustments are non-destructive (unless you merge them into a pixel layer or rasterize the whole thing).

It is a bit complicated but the simplest way to preserve an unaltered background (or any other pixel) layer is to duplicate it before you edit it & hide the original layer. That way, you always have an unedited copy.

I'm not sure how much of the white edges you want or need in your project, but I created something similar with 5 shape layers, 3 for the edges & one each for the ring's interior & exteriors. I colored the 3 edges with something other than white so they would show up better in the screen shot, but you might want to do something different with them.

Is the posted question about Affinity Designer or Photo? And now, is it the Windows version or the Mac? And we haven't even had the Windows version of Affinity Photo released yet! Nor Affinity Publisher. I don't know what the answer is for the forum but it seems to me this confusion with everything dumped in one bag is only going to get worse.

    Hi Sean,

The difference you can see if that Affinity is opening the file 'as is' whereas Photoshop has already applied some filtering to reduce the amount of noise/change exposure/white balance/etc. You are seeing exactly what was actually taken by your camera. You should be able to achieve the same effect as Photoshop when in the Develop persona (which opens by default when you open a RAW file) by removing colour noise in the Details panel and also increasing exposure slightly, from looking at your comparison images... Affinity Photo can also be set to use the OS's RAW interpreter which will automatically apply very similar rules to PhotoShop so if you did not want to see your camera's actual output, you can begin your process from this 'pre-adjusted' starting point if you would prefer :)

    Thanks,
    Matt

Alternately, you can use the Guides Manager on the View menu to set guides numerically. You can use whatever units you want (inches, mm, whatever) or percent.

As with all Mac apps, go to Print. In print dialog (show details), at bottom left you can send a PDF via Mail, or you can open a PDF in Preview, then share it. Only issue is it can be a large pdf file if the original is high rez.

...and a year later if the cause is still that you have run out of sandbox file allocations, then you still potentially have another sandboxed app running which is being greedy.

There may be other reasons that permissions are not granted, but if it cannot be fixed using the fix permissions approach then check for the above errors that RamiT has identified.  We are not responsible for other apps hogging resources, or the behaviour of OSX's sandboxing.

These features will be part of the 1.5 update for all platforms including the Mac. The update should be available in the app store later in the year

I just put this one up today, hope it's of use! Panorama Distortion Correction

It's for equirectangular distortion, but you should be able to adapt the technique to non-panoramic images.

I believe I deserve some credit for that. The reason is in accordance with Murphy's Law & the general tendency of the universe to thumb its nose at me, less than 48 hours ago I finally replaced my 1.4.1 Affinity app Dock icons with the beta versions, set the Designer beta as the default app for SVG files & Photo beta as the default for PDF, PSD, etc.

So of course, after installing the two 1.4.2 versions this morning, I had to change everything back to those non beta versions.

Any shape can be used as an Artboard. You might want round ones for DVDs, CDs or records, for example.

Alternately, for some drawing tools you can hold down the alt/option key & drag in the workspace. You get the same magnifier that shows pixels as with the Color Picker eyedropper (which isn't a tool in the normal sense & doesn't appear on the tool panel).

To see which tools support this, look at the text at the bottom of the window after you have selected one. The text indicating if the alt/option drag is available will appear there.

Many of us have asked for a more conventional Color Picker tool like PS & several other apps have, but if or when that will be added is unknown.

When you open the RAW files in AP & develop them, do you save a copy of that to your MacBook before you close the file's window in AP? If not, you should be getting a warning about unsaved changes before it will close. Do you?

R C-R got a reaction from Paul Bravery in On iMAc, Affinity Photo "quitting unexpectedly"
Like for all Mac App Store (MAS) purchases, inside the app is a "_MASReceipt" folder with a receipt file in it. The OS uses this file to run up to five checks to verify that that specific Mac has been authorized to run the app. If it has not, the app won't run.

If you uninstall the app, the receipt file is deleted along with the rest of the app, but since it (the app) is still tied to that Apple ID, once you sign in to the MAS app with that same ID, as Paul mentioned you can download a new copy from the Purchased section. Because that copy includes a receipt file keyed to that Mac, it is already authorized so you don't have to do that as a separate step.

So normally, the only time you have to worry about authorization as a separate step is if you copy the app from one Mac to another or if you erase the drive or install a new one & that changes the UUID of the Mac.

The Aperture additions are not Photoshop plugins. Aperture uses a different architecture & the installer creates additions suitable for that in addition to the PS plugins.

It apparently does this even if Aperture is not installed (at least it did on my Macs), so once you get the PS plugins working with Affinity Photo, if you do not have Aperture installed you may want to delete the Aperture folder the installer creates to save some disk space.

What I think would help a lot is if the grid could be implemented as a layer, one that could be shown or hidden like any other layer type & set to various blend modes so that for example the exclusion or difference modes could be used to improve visibility as needed.

R C-R got a reaction from A_B_C in Add color to The Macintosh OS X Color Picker
Because it isn't well documented by Apple, the Mac Color Picker includes much more functionality than many people realize. This article, although a little dated, covers just about everything it can do.

Of particular interest to Affinity users may be the "Why is there a Gray Corner in the Color Swatch?" & "To Set the Color Space for a Swatch" items, how to use & manage the Swatch Drawer items (where the little color wells live), & all the stuff about making, using, & managing custom palettes with the Palette picker.

Also, as you may know any system palettes created in Affinity via the Swatches panel will appear in the Mac Color Picker in the Palettes tab.

    EDIT:
    @uncle808us:
Expand the "Moving Colors into the Swatch Drawer" item in the article for a graphic explanation of what A_B_C was talking about.

    Hi andonbray,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
The best/correct way to solve this would be to use a lighter weight of the font. If that's not possible a quick n'dirty way to do it is to subtract an expanded stroke from the letters.
Here's a small clip showing how to do it (no sound).
