The Smooth Curve button (looks like a sine wave) in context toolbar of Node Tool will remove redundant nodes that lie in a straight line, without you needing to manually select the nodes to be removed.

I just want to confirm, this works exactly the same way on Windows when using the [ALT]-Key.

Linda, the interface supports you with little text info pop-ups when you hover with your mouse over an icon. You can set them to appear immediately, without the default delay of a few seconds. It's in the same section of the app prefs where you toogle the dark/light interface.

    Maybe try this:
In Finder, select one of your *.R3D files. Use File > Get Info to open the info window. In the Open with section, choose whatever app you want to be the default for that filetype, then click the "Change All..." button.
If that does not work, the Launch Services database may need to be rebuilt (although it is unusual for this to be necessary in recent macOS versions). More info about the Launch Services database & links to how to rebuild it can be found in various places on the web, like here.

Personally, I think the whole "Compatible with" section of the Affinity Store needs work. As it is, the 3 icons do not provide enough 'at a glance' info about brush type compatibility, & often (always?) grey out the Publisher icon even though via Studio Link all brush types can be used in that app if the user also owns the other apps.

The best immediate solution, for you, is probably to change the Convert to Curves shortcut to something else, or remove it entirely. You can do that via the Keyboard Shortcuts section of the Affinity Preferences.

This is akin to having shoes that have shoelaces, then getting shoes that have velcro straps and trying to tie them up the same.

True. But I think that a fast HDD or a still faster SSD directly connected via a USB 3 interface should work just as well as the built-in startup drive, if for no other reason than if I boot my Mac from one of my 7200 rpm HDDs connected via a USB 3 interface instead of its built-in drive, that works without any issues.

R C-R, no need to convince me. You just confirm what I expressed yesterday in my post with the screenshots. I agree, the different behaviors make sense and are useful.
(while to me also the different behavior depending on the tool when converting an object to text frame can be useful, so I personally would NOT see a bug there, too.)

Only on wide displays, & only if the workspace window is set to use enough of the available width.
But since that toolbar is customizable, if this is something you would like, you could post to the feature request forum to request adding undo, redo, & maybe print buttons to the options. I think I have seen a few requests for that in the past, but it is not a very popular request, & there are dozens if not hundreds of requests for various feature additions or modifications, so there is no guarantee that one will make it into a later version.

All version 1 updates are free. We are currently at version 1.8 & version 1.9 is being worked on. There may be other updates as well, like a version 1.10 & 1.11.
When version 2 is released (probably not for a year or more but no guarantees) they will be paid upgrades.

R C-R got a reaction from TomM1 in cant remove NOTO fonts
Even for those of us using older Mac OS versions there are probably quite a few system fonts we would never use & so would prefer for them not to clutter up the Affinity context toolbar pop up 'all fonts' list of every enabled font. I know I would.
Since this list is generated by the OS & Affinity (like most other apps) just displays it, I doubt there is anything they can do to change that. However, for Mac users using Font Book to manage their fonts, there is already a feature that offers a partial workaround for this:
If in Font Book you create a Collection, in the Affinity Character Studio the font popup that defaults to "All fonts" will include each of them along with the Affinity "Favorites" & "Missing Fonts" filters.

Font Book Collections can include or exclude any fonts you want, whether they are system or not, so you can create as many collection filters & name them however you want (but don't use a name that is exactly the same as the  Affinity "Favorites" one).
This is a useful feature but to use it you have to open the Character panel & select all the text, so it would be great if they could find some way to add this filter to the context toolbar font popup list, like maybe as a replacement for the Affinity "Favorites" filter as a secondary popup menu, if that makes any sense.

Well you could use symbols to do the rotating. Having a symbol outside of the canvas right side up and having the same symbol upside down to mirror what you do in the right side up symbol. a bit convoluted but probably not much more than how greeting card packages work. This template I created lacks refinement but you get the Idea.

R C-R reacted to thomaso in Image Export quality is not sharp vs. photoshop
Indeed? I agree Adobe does very well in UI, both visually and textually.
But I doubt there is 1 perfect balance, because with increasing experience also the desire for more will follow, for more understanding this way, too. For instance here often people complain about resulting file size compared to Adobe apps – but it's hard to judge the difference unless you can't judge what's going on behind the curtain. When InDesign for PDF export simply offers levels from "minimal" to "maximal" in 5 steps then it might help for first decisions – but if you want to compare it to Affinity it would be good to know whether "maximum" means 100% or 98% or any other value.
I am sure this would cause other questions in other situations. For instance what should I choose then if I want to enlarge an image but in high quality? Bicubic or Lanczos? And what would I choose if I want "smallest file size" or "website use" ? Just two quite common ideas in mind when making an export decision. Furthermore especially with JPG compression the image content is relevant, so it would not be useful to recommend a specific setting for all. For instance if I want to keep the resulting file size of a bunch of various images around a specific value, e.g. "all 100 kB" or "all less than 1MB" etc.). Would it help and be a good advice to have a setting labeled with "small size for internet"? It rather would be useful to understand JPG compression and the idea behind its algorythm, and finally, possibly, use a different setting for each single image.
In particular for JPG compression tests and experience are useful and helpful, entirely regardless of any label term. To me this comparison of JPG compression vs. file size for a bunch of quite different image content is very enlightening, because it visually shows the very different influence of compression to the initial data (Scroll down to the images and hover over the various compression rates) :

"total failure"? I agree that "research" never should be necessary to use a software. But a technical understanding, a professional background may be compulsory for a professional software. Of cause it's not just black and white, especially with Affinity, which is attractive for everybodies use just by its price.
Imagine an UI which avoids any technical term but translates them in an all-day language. Imagine various formats (jpg, png, tif, pdf, tga, hdr) would be named, labeled or tool-tipped with words like 'internet', 'isolated', 'high quality', 'archive', 'exchange', 'ancient', 'ambitious', 'televison', '3D background' etc.). – Or various typographical terms: leading, kerning, tracking, baseline, capitals, glyphs, characters, letters ... it might be possible to use non-technical words but I doubt it would help to use the features without a minimum knowledge and technical understanding. Again, simply the complaints, confusions and questions will be different, probably by entirely different users – but they definitely won't be less!
I am convinced such a trend to simplification would be limited in its success – it's not that it would not continue, it rather simply would stop working. Just because of being too unspecific, too ambiguous in its terms – while the complexity in their meaning increases. Semantics vs. semiotics isn't just a simple thing.

I think what Mark is saying is when he tries that his Mac hangs (the 'spinning beachball' cursor appears). He said he had to restart his MacBook to recover, which if that is really the only way to do that suggests a system level printing problem of some kind.
