As has been mentioned before, the number of views a topic gets does not mean anything one way or another about how useful or helpful anybody considers its content to be. What is a much better gauge of that is the number of 'likes' and/or 'thanks' posts in the topic receive from those viewing it, & what those posts say that generate those accolades.
Make of that what you will.

No, my name was mentioned and allegations made. I have responded, as is my right, and that right is common decency in England.

The fact of the matter is that yesterday the original poster had PUBLISHED in this thread a graphic, not there today, that had my name in it.
A matter that has been PUBLISHED is in English Law a MATTER OF PUBLIC INTEREST and is open for public discussion.
Allegations were being made about me and I had and have every right to respond.
I am in fact acting in accordance with the rules, the poster published a graphic with my name in it and so I was and am entitled to correct the record. The original poster had stated about not having read the thread.
    So not rude by me.

It is rude from William to post such unwanted content again in this exact place where another forum member asked explicitly for an option to filter out spam like this. Can you please consider stopping this behavior? You are straining the nerves of many people by ignoring essential rules.

The file is perfectly fine. The only issue: there is an active pixel selection, with a very low opacity value. this renders all brush strokes almost useless.
You need to only use the menu command "Select->Deselect (CMD-D / CTRL-D)" once to get rid of the selection. Then the brush will work again.

Do as @NotMyFault suggested & try deselect all. That should cure your problem.

Sorry, but there is nothing special about these frames! There are thousands of picture/photo frames available, in all sorts of shapes and sizes, with and without mounts. (But, not necessarily from supermarkets!)
At the end of the day these are Affinity forums, so it seems perfectly reasonable to me that a Resources section should be for specifically Affinity Resources, not for general "useful" products. For example, I bought a packet of printable sticky labels recently but I wouldn't post about them in the Affinity Resources just because I designed the labels in Affinity Publisher!

Maybe asked before: try deselect all. An unnoticed active pixel selection may ruin your day.

Hi @Michael3d and welcome to the forums,
If you uncheck 'Auto-scroll' from the Layer panel hamburger menu, that should do the trick...

AFAI recall, sadly, that was always your intention from beginnings in this forum. Aka to get some responses convulsively then to some obscure mostly Affinity software unrelated theme threads here in the forum. So mostly about things usually nobody seems to be really interested in. - I for my part will now leave and ignore such threads, in order to not feed the trolls with view clicks that these people are just after!

You can create custom styles by clicking on the Panel Preferences menu in the upper right corner of the Styles panel (it looks like 3 lines) & choosing the Add Style from Selection item if you have an appropriate object selected. So for example, if you apply some FX to a Pixel layer, you can create a new style that includes those layer FX, but since just setting a fill or stroke color for a Pixel layer does nothing (because Pixel layers have neither strokes nor fill colors) you can't add a style from it.

There is nothing special about those frames. It is common for frames to come with cutouts/mats such as you have been describing.

Instead of giving more sort of monologues here (...thinking out loud in order to start some questionable discussions about specific comercial hardware frames), you can just give it an own try and then you will see if things finally looks as you personally migh think.
Other than that, physical (hardware) frames -as we already told before- are no directly Affinity software related & based things as app "Resources" here in the sense of the forums resources section. If you would instead build/provide some reusable, non-trivial Affinity software based frame templates, or assets etc., so something other people can make then some real use out of directly in/for their Affinity software, then that would fit under the forums "Resources" section.

For the HSL color model selector in the Color Panel the Lightness & Saturation sliders go from 0 to 100, which I think must be percent; Hue from 0 to 360, which I think must be degrees. In the Recolor Adjustment Saturation likewise goes from 0% to 100%, Hue likewise from 0° to 360°, but Lightness goes from -100% to 100%.
So really the only thing that needs conversion (so to speak) is the Lightness percent ... right?

One problem is that the HSL values for Brightness go from 0 to 100 units in the Colour Panel and in the Recolour Adjustment they go from -100 to +100 Percent.

I think that seems to fit. The L value does not seem to be relevant. I have it set to 0 in the adjustment and in the reference it is set to 55, but the color still seems to be the same.
Edit: When I checked the color again via the color palette, it now showed me the 55 for the adjusted color at L, although these were not set. So it seems to be ok.

AFAIK, the Default & similarly simple styles in the Styles panel that do not include layer effects will only have a visible affect on vector type object layers (like the rectangle & the other quick shapes, shapes made with the Pen Tool, & text objects) & on Image layers.
From your screenshot, it appears you tried to apply one of the Default styles to a Pixel layer. While doing so will add an 'apply object style' step to the History panel, it should not have any visible effect on Pixel layers, so undoing it likewise should have no effect.

Frames are not "Affinity Resources", in the same way as computer screens are not Resources for displaying images exported from Affinity Photo or Designer.

I'm using a 16GB M1 Pro and find it sufficient for books of several hundred pages with several hundred high res photos. I intended to buy it with 32GB but messed up. After ordering I was worried that it would be an issue because memory was a bottleneck on my Intel MBP with 16GB, but it's been fine. Even if I force Publisher to load all of my book's 14GB of linked photos into memory, macOS handles the memory swaps without me noticing.
I will order 32GB next time for other reasons and I wish I'd done so this time because as @v_kyr wrote, it's good to have something in reserve.
I think this is key and we've seen this with other Book export problems that were fixed in the recent 2.x updates. There were some simple books that exported as separate chapters but not as a single book.
BTW, did you disable hardware acceleration (metal) as suggested by Lee?
I thought I knew all of the 1980s and 90s processors but I've never heard of the Z280!
