Jens Krebs reacted to Old Bruce in Publisher -- Find and Replace Colour of Paragraph Decorations
In my perfect world all our customers would be much more easily pleased. And willing and able to pay more.

Yes -- it is seven chapters, three styles each. Nesting them is a great idea! Thanks.
I could, the customer won't
Got that already set up. 🙂

If you really absolutely need this then yes, three chapters means three styles, twenty chapters means twenty styles. If you use a name like 01 chapter decoration through to 20 chapter decoration and they are all based on the style named Chapter then the only thing that is done with the nn chapter decoration styles will be the colours. Everything else will be inherited. This is completely manageable. Far better than having to deal with overrides and hoping that those don't ever get changed inadvertently during the editing process.
I would suggest using a Document Swatches palette with global colours too.
You could try living with Odd and Even chapter colours.

Jens Krebs got a reaction from frindley in Smaller PDF Files, please!
@Bolashak idol Yes, the issue was evwntually solved -- there have been many updates to Publisher and Designer as well to my font manager. Basically most problems disappeared over time because bugs were fixed on all ends.
If your PDFs are still to big, PDF files you have placed in Publisher (with the new pass-through feature) might be the issue -- as far as I am aware this is the only size related issue that cannot be solved by different PDF export settings at the moment.

Jens Krebs reacted to frindley in Open QuarkXpress files in Publisher
@Jens Krebs Agree – it's shitty indeed and I too would want to be testing the saving and exporting functions if I were actually considering investing in QuarkXPress. Fortunately, between the Affinity suite (which I love) and the Adobe suite (which I am also using for now because I'm a design student and may need to keep because some clients…), I have no need to return to Quark.
But yes, Markzware's free preview option is certainly adequate to provide a reminder of the work done – although with plenty of flaws and oddities, which is to be expected I suppose. But if I actually need the files at some point then it's more than AUD330.00. Not a priority in my budget right now.
My main regret is that my workflow 15+ years ago didn't routinely involve exporting to PDF, even if just for archival purposes. I have a handful of PDFs from that time, but it wasn't how we supplied work to printers back then – everything was packaged up.

Jens Krebs got a reaction from frindley in 3 page spread
You can create a slice that spans your three (or more) artboards in Export Persona of Designer and export as one PDF.

Jens Krebs got a reaction from Ideagonal in Copy and Paste of pinning settings
When copying and pasting a pinned object, the pinning settings are not copied and pasted, but Publisher applies the last pinning settings that were used. Would be nice is objects were copied and pasted "as is".
Sample:
- insert pinned object (1) into text, set it to "align LEFT"
- insert second pinned object (2), set it to "align RIGHT"
- now copy and paste object (1)
- result: the pasted object (1) is aligned RIGHT even though the copied object was aligned LEFT
- when pasting from the clipboard, Publisher uses the current settings from the ,pinning' panel instead of copying the objects settings.

You cannot have a whole forum section just for complaints. This is not Reddit.

Jens Krebs reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Designer for macOS - 1.10.5
We are pleased to announce an update for the MacOS release of Affinity Designer, to version 1.10.5
The detailed changes in Affinity Designer for MacOS 1.10.5 over the release build Affinity Designer for macOS 1.10.4 are as follows:
Fixes & Improvements:
Fixed possible registration failures (will now use the browser to complete registration, rather than attempt it in-app) Attempted to fix graphics corruption for some users of earlier macOS versions. Optimisation when transforming Text Frames. Help & localisation improvements. The major improvements in 1.10 since 1.9 are listed in some detail in this 1.10.0 Designer macOS update announcement
UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, Affinity Designer > About).
If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update, or in the application main menu there is an option Check for Updates. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "Download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Designer for macOS) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Mac App Store purchases and needs a product key).

Jens Krebs reacted to Robin Southgate in Can we please get a feature to save TIFF as TIF?
I support this suggestion certain programs will not support files with 4 letter extensions i.e tiff
-
Jens Krebs reacted to km.au in Can we please get a feature to save TIFF as TIF?
I like to work with Capture One.
When I export as a TIF so as to edit the RAWs in Affinity Photo, Capture One saves as a .TIF file.
However Affinity Photo for some reason wants to lock in .TIFF as a save which then Capture One will think is a brand new photo, not the original one being edited.
This makes the roundhouse workflow between C1 and Affinity Photo pretty awful in that regard.
Since TIF and TIFF are obviously the same thing, can we please have an option in Affinity Photo to save as .TIF files instead of forced to be using .TIFF?
Thanks

Jens Krebs got a reaction from keen91 in How to separate / extract the difference of 2 nearly similar stacked photos (German or English)
If you take the pictures yourself, use ansingle colour background ... the pattern on your sample makes it tough to use any automation or filters, because the colour of the coffee and the colour of the cup are both somewhere in the background as well.
Ideally the background is one single colour that is not repeated on the motive (similar to a green screen in filming).
Otherwise cutting out objects is always a bit of a fiddle.

Jens Krebs got a reaction from Celeste Joseph in Why is there not export as HTML
Affinity Publisher is not a web design application -- what you can do is use Designer or Photo to lay out a website and then export the assets (images) and send them to your web design app or your programmer.

Jens Krebs reacted to aleale1 in Bug in the GREP of "Find and Replace" studio
There is a serious bug in the GREP find-replace studio, which can result in a huge problem with a client.
It happens when you replace text with found text, but before the “Replace all” command you check the correctness of the formula by pressing the “Replace” command a couple of times. After this, click “Replace all” and the result is catastrophic. The application inserts wrong letters.
In the attached image the “Found and replaced text” should be the same as the “Original text” without commas, but we get the wrong result (inserted letters “G” in the middle of a string and at the end not everything is OK).

Jens Krebs got a reaction from PaoloT in Affinity Publisher Workbook -- Root Box Brochure -- Wrong Sizes!
Just wanted to let you know that the "Root Box Brochure" in the Publisher workbook contains a SERIOUS error:
All pages of the trifold are of the exact same size (in the written tutorial as well as in the downloadable project files) -- however, every designer should know that the page that is folded inwards (called ,panel 3' in the tutorials) needs to be a smidgen smaller (2-3 mm) than the others to fold in properly.
I think in a workbook that aims to teach people not only about the software, but also about design basics, this is an essential piece of information that needs to be included -- otherwise either the fold is incorrect or the folded brochure bulges a bit because the inner page presses agains the fold.

Jens Krebs got a reaction from aforetaste in Publisher - Can "All Pages" be made the default in export?
You're not alone. I do almost every export twice because of this ...
There is no option for this at the moment, but setting ones own default has been suggested several times, so the programmers know about the wish.

Jens Krebs got a reaction from seabreeze in Hyperlinks don't update when pages change
@walt.farrell @thomaso
Thanks for the tips. For this project I'll work with anchors to page-sized transparent objects, even though it feels more like a work-around than a proper solution.
I guess the current hyperlinks work fine in a text flow, but not in my particular case of 100-page document without flowing text, but with 26 sections (which I had to manually renumber after adding a page in the middle of the first section). I know where these issues come from, understand the logic behind them and see that the current functionality makes sense in most cases. Still hope hyperlinks (and sections too) get a bit of a attention for the next release.

Jens Krebs got a reaction from Luca H in Align Text to Baseline Grid -- First line only
Hi,
it would be nice if it was possible to only align the first line of a paragraph with the baseline geid (use case: Headlines and quotes that need a line height that is different than the baseline grid).
