Perspective tools for editing raster images will be a feature of Affinity Photo. We will add perspective tools to Designer but it will only apply to vector data.

Please add the ability to import CDR files.

Lately, clients have started mentioning that they would like to move away from CorelDraw.  You might be surprised how many Mac users are using CorelDraw via Bootcamp or Parallels.  Now that Serif (Affinity) is supporting the Mac they want to migrate away from CorelDraw.

However, they feel trapped with CorelDraw because:

They do not want to lose their CDR files created over many years.

In addition, they want to avoid exporting hundreds of files out of CorelDraw one at a time so the files could be used elsewhere.

Here is an opportunity for Affinity to make friends in the Mac community.  Make Affinity products able to perfectly import Adobe and Corel files.  Do this and you will have an automatic customer base for a long time.

Fantastic stuff! I'm super excited at the prospect of binning my Adobe CC subscription and having a replacement for InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop

Affinity Animator could be amazing, better than a bloated Affinity Designer IMO.

In some situations where selecting nodes with the Node Tool is complicated due to their proximity, would be handy to be able to cycle through them pressing the TAB key.

The same here. I even encourage my students to do an exercise, after they start learning some of the techniques. I tell them that a great exercise to start harnessing the tools and methods of the application I'm teaching is to search for tutorials that were made in other, similar applications. Then, try to reproduce the tutorial in the application they are learning.

Same here -- I start every Adobe training by tasking my students to research alternatives for the software I am going to teach them for the rest of the week -- just to make them aware that they can use the techniques they learn in multiple ways and multiple applications.
Additionally I try to give them an idea that the exact same feature can have different names (swatches = colours = color sets / styles = presets = templates etc.) but work mostly the exact same way.

    Jens, I agree completely :)
the fact that there are now apps coming out as alternatives to the bloated adobe software is such a relief. I always preach that it's not the tool you use but the work you produce. Find the tool that works for you and run with it. Now we have options ~ and AD has the biggest potential yet…

Not even to mention the price tag - this app will finally be a high quality app everyone can afford.

A great feature with Illustrator (and Cinema 4D too) is the ability to interactively manipulate individual characters (eg. size, kerning, rotation...). It would be great to have a such feature across all your apps.

    Great work, keep on going!

    Hi,

playing around some more (only heard about this wonderful app a few days ago) - and discovering some beautifully thought out features - I think you're missing a forum category for praise! :)

Love doing vector work, and though Illustrator has its flaws (and with Adobe…well, you know) I've come love it. It's not ideal - and since the introduction of CC more so than ever - I've been searching for an alternative. Nothing's ever come so close !! What an amazing app!

Just wanted to say thank you for these:
split view - will be using this all the time, I can tell - between vector and outline brilliant combination of vector and bitmap ~ never thought I'd like this… but integrated as you have it - I might just change my mind, lovely to use - and superquick to render/preview  instant previews all through the tools and settings - how wonderful I use gradients a lot (very subtle only, very custom) - and AD's tool - just brilliant ! smart guides (for lack of a better word) - showing alignment of nodes as I draw ~ excellent! ability to shape curve via line as well as nodes thank you for all your work on this wonderful app - I'm sold despite only having looked at it a little ;)

    one more point:
I teach graphic and web design and my mission usually is to get students to get to grips with vector graphics. Most find bitmap apps (using photos) easier to learn. - AD's ability to control size of tool UI is brilliant! Much more suited for presentations and projector demos - much more accessible to all!

PS: don't get me wrong - there's lots that I find frustrating and odd, still learning though, will be posting questions, too —but I just wanted to post some praise for the AD team! :-)

Jens Krebs got a reaction from boudewijndanser in Roadmap / Feature List
Especially the last one is important: I personally did ask about a couple of features via Twitter and Facebook and a Staff member confirmed future development of "crop marks" and "bleed" features for the software -- both are so important for my work that they weight into my decision to purchase AD as soon as it comes out.

So, a list of features planned to integrate during the promised free upgrade period could keep future users informed and might shuffle them towards a purchase as well.

In addition, revealing the features in development will save some time because you don't have to confirm or deny the same request over and over.

Dealing with features that are not on the list is easy as well: Just collect every wish, give it a good think and update your list from time to time. Tell people not to tell and / or push for something but to suggest the feature once and trusting in you that you will evaluate it.

Alternatively you could create a voting form / page where all suggestions are listed and registered users can vote for everything they would use on a regular basis -- this could give you a good insight in which functions are most sought-after and could influence the order in which stuff is implemented in a very user-focussed way.

Jens Krebs reacted to Dale in Are "Photo" and "Publisher" separate programs or personas?
Yes Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher are going to be separate apps, but from what I understand of the roadmap, Jens, you won't need a viewer. You just buy whichever of the three apps you want and can work in all three apps with one document if you wish.

Transferring a document between apps will be very simple, so you can quickly proceed using that app's tools (and whichever Personas it includes).

Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher will be separate applications but all applications share the same file format. The applications will also be able to switch to each other to edit content without losing undo history.

Jens Krebs reacted to boudewijndanser in [ADe] Keyboard shortcuts wishlist
Read that you were working on more/ changeable shortcuts. Nice!  :)

I think shortcuts and the ability to change them have a big influence on your overall software experience.
The less you have to navigate to menus and panels, the faster you can draw.

What I think would benefit the Affinity Designer experience:

    Adjustable shortcuts
Save your under your own name and be able to change them all.
      Shortcuts for everything
I understand that the developers might not want to add a shortcut to every program "action", but as a user if there is something that I do a lot in my illustrating process, I want to reach it superfast through a shortcut. If it's under a dropdown, menu or even submenu that takes too much time. I want to shorten that time. The "everything" part is about the clickable icons and sliders that don't have a (default) shortcut. (New layer, lock layer, increase line width) Giving the user the freedom to edit those.
Changing the location of your shortcut file. So you can put it in your Dropbox, or on a part of your Mac you wont format when doing a clean install. It could be a window during install like the one asking where it can install. "Where would you like us to save your keyboard shortcuts (for easy backup if you do a clean install later)"
      Default shortcut sets
Based on different other (vector) software. This would make it easier for a person coming from Adobe illustrator, Coreldraw, Sketch or Manga Studio to jump in and use the shortcuts he's been using for years. I imagine a window after first start asking the user: If you tell us which software you used most before finding Affinity Designer, we will make sure (most of) the shortcuts are in the same place.

Kind of like the browsers do after install, trying to get your bookmarks and stuff from other browsers to increase the chance you never go back to your old browser.  ;)
      Live editing
Being able to edit the shortcut of an icon by (cmd?) clicking on it and having it open a small window with the current (if there is one) short cut and the option to add your new one. Now there are just too many steps to edit a shortcut. 1. Remember what the function is called (i.e lock layer / increase line width) 2. Find the shortcuts menu. 3 Search for the function. 4. Edit it. 5. Save it. 6. Close the shortcuts menu. Being able to do that on the fly could reduce the actions by half. I think shortcuts with the options stated above would translate to (super) speed & focus.
Compare it to wanting the interface to be as calm and subtle as possible so you "see" it less and focus on your drawing.
Being able to add a shortcut to everything allows you use the interface less and focus even more.

    Hi,

I found this program last week and have been playing with the beta all week and i must say this is a superb program!
It works very smooth on my mac Mini (Mavericks) with 10gb ram.I really looking forward to its final release and to the rest of the suite.Great job guys.

Now the question i have is. In the preference there is a checkbox for tool UI size to make it smal or large,is this for the toolbar on the left side?Because it doesn't seem to do anything. Can you explain please.

You can specify CMYK colours by moving sliders in the colour palette. Just like Illustrator or Photoshop. Affinity presents a colour wheel in the colour palette by default, but If you click the options icon at the top right of the palette, you'll see a down-menu offering a choice of 3 methods of specifying colour: Wheel, Sliders and Box. If you select Sliders, you can then choose from a number of colour modes: CMYK, RGB, LAB greyscale and more.
