Jens Krebs got a reaction from lastfuture in Compatibility with Sketch
That's probably because you're not supposed to use Sketch after discovering Affinity … ;-)

AT LAST an intuitive vector programme for mac that is mature. Bye Bye Corel Draw after many many years. You get what you deserve for ignoring Mac users. Affinity Designer fills a great big void for non Adobe Illustrators. Well done.

Yes, the German localisation will use , as numeric divider.
German is the first language we will translate to - we will begin work on the translation before the end of 2014 and it will be a free update :)

Jens Krebs reacted to MattP in How to set default fill and line for new shapes?
Hi,
It automatically synchronises each new setting as you make them in the UI. For example, give your object a red fill and the next object you make will have a red fill. Choose a fat line and the next object will have a fat line. It doesn't set defaults based on selection changes though - if you want to do that, just select the object you're after and click the 'Synchronise defaults to the current selection' button on the top toolbar just next to the different Persona buttons.
Hope that helps :)

I second this. You could conquer the whole CorelDRAW market, with all these creatives converted to Mac OSX, still running Corel on Parallels. This would boost our workflow ....

Jens Krebs reacted to Andy Somerfield in Strokes (as compared with Illustrator)
1.) Is a bug, thanks for letting us know.
4.) Multiple strokes is on the cards - but we need to find a nice way to implement the UI - most other efforts I have seen are not good enough, imo.
5.) You *can* do gradients on lines! When using the gradient tool, select "Line" context from the context toolbar.
6.) We have a corner tool already written - ran out of time to test it properly, so it didn't make the release. Our Rounded Rectangle shape already allows you to set corner radii and types interactively.
8.) Our "pressure profile" flyout, on the Line panel achieves this. We're considering adding a "Width Tool" too - so the width can be set more interactively on the canvas.
9.) Use the boolean operations buttons on the top toolbar to achieve this - or alternatively, alt-click the boolean op buttons to create a live Compound object (basically non-destructive boolean ops).
I think the main thing here is that, because our lines do not support inside / outside etc. yet, people are using the Stroke effect as a replacement. Stroke is a very different beast - it's a raster effect. When people ask about line inside, etc. our response should be "Sorry, we overlooked it - we're adding it now", not "Use the stroke effect instead".
Lines inside / outside is high on our to-do list - we hope to have it available for beta test, then release, as soon as possible.
Thanks,
AndyS

No sales data yet - the App Store doesn't update so frequently (fair enough - I guess they have a lot of data to process!). So far, it says we have sold 14 copies :D (And none in the UK - I bought it at zero hour, so it's way, way behind).
We probably won't share exact numbers for the launch period, but I'll try to make sure we give you guys some feedback as to how we did!

Do you guys have any sales numbers for the first 24h to share?

I think we might get a few more people in our little corner of the internet soon!

Jens Krebs reacted to Andy Somerfield in When will there be a Photoshop replacement?
The public beta of Affinity Photo will begin within 8 weeks.
The beta will work the same way as the Designer beta :)
Hope this helps,

Jens Krebs reacted to Ben in Snapping to ghost objects and curves while dragging
To create an equilateral inside a circle, first create the constrained circle, turn on snap to bounds, then create a polygon using the snapped bounds of the circle, and set the side count to three (works for all polygons).

Jens Krebs reacted to MattP in Testing Affinity
Hi,
I think the number is now over 31,000 actual individual people have signed up to the beta test - not all will be active users though, obviously. Pretty good going for an app nobody had heard of a few months ago! ;)
Thanks,
Matt

Jens Krebs reacted to MEB in Are we here yet?
Jens, i believe you misunderstood Matt's post. He means that a demo will be available at their site, not a full working version. For that you will have to buy it through the Mac App Store.

Jens Krebs got a reaction from Raskolnikov in Canvas and shadow
I'm not a big fan of the shadowy border, but some distinction would really be helpful. Maybe an overlaying blue guideline-frame that hovers over everything and can be de-activated if the user decides so (please reade: guidelines layer! guidelines layer!).

Jens Krebs reacted to David in Snotbag Monster (WIP)
Update to my trial artwork...
Couple of things I missed having, no warp tools and masking options (unless Ive missed these?).
The software could also do with a few extra keyboard short cuts adding here and there, such as cmd + e for export.
Overall through, I have very much enjoyed using the software and will be purchasing next week on release.

Jens Krebs reacted to Raskolnikov in Canvas and shadow
When selecting the clearest "background grey level" in AF (white background) , the limits between canvas and background dissapear (logically) ...the possibility of activating, if wished on that cases (white or clear grey background) a little shadow under the canvas or another element could help to distinguish its limits.
I'm sure that some people like working with the white background, so it could be a help for them.

Jens Krebs got a reaction from peter in just a post for praise :)
Same here -- I start every Adobe training by tasking my students to research alternatives for the software I am going to teach them for the rest of the week -- just to make them aware that they can use the techniques they learn in multiple ways and multiple applications.
Additionally I try to give them an idea that the exact same feature can have different names (swatches = colours = color sets / styles = presets = templates etc.) but work mostly the exact same way.

Jens Krebs reacted to Raskolnikov in Reveal outside document bounds
This looks pretty interesting, as we could very easily that way "move" or copy elements from one tab to the others (well really the elements would not be moved, they would stay on the same background, it would be the canvas what changes). (something like the film Dune and the travels in time :D)
This function looks very powerful and easy to understand, logical, as it's what we do with the trays (canvas) on the kitchen's table (background). It looks to me the natural way of behaving with different canvasses. (I don't remember now if Corel Draw had such a thing...)
but... (just questions to solve, because I love this idea)
A - What if the canvasses of the files/tabs are different in size? (an element out but near of a canvas could be into the limits of another bigger canvas' file)
B - What if an element it's partially inside a canvas? (would it be shared to the others?) (In my opinion: No, it shouldn't be shared as it belongs to that canvas where it's partially shown)
C - Should it be this behaviour universal or could we specify which tabs share the same background and which not? (my opinion: Should be universal as I think it's easier to manage without futher settings and probably to program it)
