Jens Krebs reacted to 10on12 in Cheat sheet by users
"Help Viewer really slow and cranky."
It's OK once it fires up.
I'll post up the PDF link when I've finished for a download.

Jens Krebs reacted to Andy Somerfield in Optional Coloured/Transparent PNG backgrounds
Yes,
Also, when you have made the background transparent, if you switch to the Export Persona, you will see that one "slice" has been auto-created - it is a slice which covers the whole document. Select this slice, then at the top, choose "PNG" and choose a "Matte" colour - your file will then export with the colour as the background :)
Thanks,
AndyS

Jens Krebs reacted to Lescot in 2. Illustration with AD, Full Version, 'In Love with Alice'.
Relaxed drawing of a classic topic. Wanted to get the outlines right so it took some time.
Used 2 different textured brushes for overlays and clouds. Half of them with a 50% Gaussian Blur.
Always thought that cat in the story is great - so it got a Martini ;)

In the latest beta you can already export to @1x @2x and @3x. Additionally you can also set the export to Continuous. This will continually update the exported assets if you make changes to your objects/slices.

Jens Krebs reacted to cwork in 2 Feature Requests
A) I laid out a 978 grid last night with guides, and it took me a while, and thought how cool it would be if I could save this and load it from the guide manager (which is a very cool thing you have, btw).
I see grid and guide improvements on the roadmap, but nothing specific so I just want to throw this out there:
1. Automatic guide creation based on 3 fields: "number of columns", "column width", "gutter width"
2. Saving guide layouts as presets.
3. Centering the guides.
4. Click the ruler to bring up the guide manager, or just a button/hotkey (bonus request).
Now, I saved the file, and can open the file and do a save as, but I am stuck at the width of the canvas. If I want to widen the page, I need to recalculate everything and move all the guides around. But, if I could widen the page, and hit a guide centering button, oh my...that would be beyond fantastic. I could be dreaming, so feel free to pinch me if I have asked for the impossible.
B) Alignment/Smart guides
1. Hot key to press that will show the space between either objects or guides
2. Lines that show up while dragging objects to show how they align in relation to other objects, For example, if I layout a box and put a logo in it and move the logo around, when I hit the center a small line could pop up to show I have hit the center.
Obviously, I am coming from the perspective of a web designer and not an illustrator. But I can see myself using Affinity for my layouts, with just a few additions. There's something really refreshing about your product and the way you guys are doing things. Looking forward to watching you expand.

Jens Krebs reacted to Dave Harris in We really need Bleed.
We're aware we have a lot to do before we can claim professional level printing. It's on the roadmap.
-
Jens Krebs reacted to rui_mac in We really need Bleed.
Creating artwork for a flyer or a presentation card requires bleeding.
Until we have it, it will be complicated to create professional output for press houses.
My wife created a flyer with a bitmap in the background and handed it to me to finalize it. When I exported it to Illustrator to finalize it (I eager for the day when I can do it all in Affinity), the bitmap was cropped internally to the limits of the artboard.
So, even adding bleed in Illustrator proved unsuccessful because I had no more bitmap to go onto the bleed area :-(

Jens Krebs reacted to Leigh in How does tab-setting work in AD?
You can find/change the settings relating to Tab Stops by selecting your text object and going to Format > Paragraph > Show Paragraph. You can also get to it by clicking the Paragraph button on the context tool bar.

Jens Krebs reacted to SilverSkyRat in Import CorelDRAW files
Hi Jens. but the whole point for us CorelDraw X4 (edit: on Win) and earlier users is not to have to buy the latest, just to save files. I wanna buy Affinity instead! LOL

This was tweeted by new Affinity user Nabeena, hope she doesn't mind me sharing it here too, I love it. :)

Jens Krebs reacted to catlover in Import CorelDRAW files
+1 for the CDR import function, but INCLUDING the "old" versions.
The reason: Coreldraw for Mac was discontinued with version 11 (if I'm not mistaken).
Ergo : By definition it's ONLY the older file type people have on file.

Jens Krebs got a reaction from andyajon in Import CorelDRAW files
Thanks, Matt -- CDR import should be relatively easy and I'm sure you'll solve it one Friday.
You just need to be aware that there are two file formats: the ,old' one (version 5 to 14) and the new one, based on XHTML and ZIP ((version 15 onwards) that comes wirh an entirely new text engine and new colour management.
My suggestion is to do the ,new' format only -- Corel can open files from about 15 years back (v 5) and it's not very expensive to buy a version x5 (four years old), open older files and save them in the new format to be imported.
The other way round (backsaving as version x4 from newer files) works nicely as well, but some of the text and the effects get jumbeled up occasionally; importing the new format is the saver way.

Jens Krebs reacted to SilverSkyRat in CDR Import
+1 too, running CorelDRAW! X4 on VMware Fusion 6. Performance fantastic, but want to remove Win entirely (sick of Windows Updates & Virus s/w updates just to keep a program or two running).
Also, look at the Mac vector graphics competition.... Sketch, ArtBoard, Intaglio, EazyDraw, Sketsa, SketchBook, Inkscape... NONE of them can do it... what an edge you'd have ;)
Edit: Also great to see you're not doing the "subscription" and "cloud" nonsense that's a huge turn-off for someone who likes to control and backup their own data ;)

Hmmm... what should I look at today?... it's a Friday after all...
Nah, I'll push this to another Friday, but it will get looked at :)

Jens Krebs got a reaction from Maxxxworld in CDR Import
I am a Corel Draw user running it via Parallels and would LOVE to move away — despite the ugly new UI the newer versions of Draw require a ,Corel Account' and the barcode feature works with an active internet connection only.
Therefore, I second and third this! CDR import would be awesome and the file format isn't too complicated (basically ZIP files with XML or XHTML, renamed to CDR).

Jens Krebs reacted to Furi0usBee in E-Typed. From sketch to Affinity final.
Reminds me of a scene from Full Throttle -- great mid 90s LucasArts PC game. Except the car would be a motorcycle.
