000 got a reaction from Doubleyoukay in Numeric Keypad — Always recognise decimal separator
I have noticed, that the comma on the numeric keypad is not always recognised as decimal separator , meaning I have to awkwardly swivvel from quickly typing my measurements with the right hand to using the period on the letter part of the keyboard.
My suggestion: ALWAYS use the comma / period key on the numeric keypad as decimal separator when filling in elements of the UI (measurements, colour values, tabs, font sizes, leading and so on).

    Hi All,
A new beta build is rolling out now - version number 2.2.0.1971 - which will be available to you on auto update within the next hour.

As mentioned with the last build, we are now feature complete and in fact expect the build next week to be a release candidate. There are just 2 little things in terms of functionality we have changed in this build:
Move data entry has an increased duplicate limit of 999 We have decided to give Create Symbol a default shortcut of cmd+shift+K (macOS / iPad) or Ctrl+shift+K on Windows when in Designer persona. Of course there are also many bug fixes too which are listed here.

    Thanks,
    Ash

It's about 160 pages with about 60 different text styles and about 150 images.
The "<>" that needs removing are leftovers from HTML commands that are spread throughout the text.
As I haven't had any find-replace issues in the version 2.0 and 2.1 and fewer find-replace commands in 2.2 have worked fine, I'll update the post above as soon as I have found the cutoff point when it stops working.
I remember InDesign having something similar a few years ago, find-replace stopped working in texts with more than 10.000 characters and it messed up the ,replace' part by adding the numer "1" to the replaced text after the limit was reached. Fun times. 🙂
    Update:
Cutoff point seems to be somewhere about 1.500 results.

000 reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Publisher 2 for macOS - (2.1.0)
We are pleased to announce an update for the macOS release of Affinity Publisher 2, version 2.1.0
The changes in Affinity Publisher 2 for macOS 2.1.0 (those made since the last release Affinity Publisher 2 for macOS 2.0.4) are listed in this FAQ forum post:
To get notified when any new releases are made please follow the latest releases thread by clicking here
UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, Affinity Publisher > About).
If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update, or in the application main menu there is an option Check for Updates. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Publisher for macOS) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Mac app store purchases, which update through the Mac App Store).

000 reacted to Ash in 2.1 GM Build (2.1.0.1799)
    Hi All,
An update to the beta has just been made available which we are expecting to be the build we release publicly very soon! This means you can update your beta version to be the same code as what we will be our initial public release of 2.1.
We will therefore now have a period where the latest beta version is the same as the release version. That will remain the case until we begin a fresh beta which will either be a patch to 2.1 if we feel it's needed, or hopefully moving straight to the first beta of 2.2. At that point you will be able to update the beta versions you currently have installed for that latest update to test.
During the period that 2.1.0.1799 is in sync with the release build (when 2.1 is made public) it's up to you if you want to continue to report any bugs in the beta forums or the main bug reporting forums.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you all so much for being so actively involved with the testing of 2.1 - along with all the new features and improvements we have got through a huge number of fixes, and that's only been possible with having so many of you putting it through it's paces. It's made a huge difference, and we're very much looking forward to working with you all on the next beta!
    All the best,
    Ash

000 got a reaction from Chills in Easy templates for simple trifold brochures
    Hi John,

I quickly assembled an empty template with the following measurements:
A4, trifold, each side 2 pages with 100mm width, 1 page with 97 mm, 3 mm bleed all around.

Careful: I have placed (and named) the front page (= dartboard) at the BOTTOM, so that the pages are in the right order when you create a PDF for printing.
Also make sure to delete the blue boxes before printing it.

When printing, simply select "crop marks" in the PDF settings and make sure that the bleed is included.

    Hope, this helps.

000 got a reaction from GryphonArt in Smaller PDF Files, please!
Fonts unfortunately still ARE the issue, and especially converting them to curves increases the file size significantly for me (my projects tend to have a lot of text). The problem I am reporting here is that even if I specifically select to embed fonts, the text is converted to curves anyway.
I have resolved to printing and then saving as PDF for this project but cannot use AP for anything until this is fixed. I need high-res print files with crop marks and low res web files without, embedded fonts and reasonable file sizes for both and don't have time or patience (nor have my customers) to fiddle around with workarounds, experiments or helper tools.

000 got a reaction from GryphonArt in Smaller PDF Files, please!
Answer found, but not a solution
I played around with the two files I uploaded above and discovered that Publisher ALWAYS (independent of the PDF settings) creates curved text when using some particular fonts ... when I switch the entire publication to Arial, the file size (including embedded fonts!) shrinks down to 0,3 MB.
So, the answer is, that Publisher apparently cannot embed all fonts (InDesign, Quark and all other DTP applications I have used throughout my career do) which, unfortunately makes it unusable for me -- it is an absolute dealbreaker not being able to provide my customers with files that come at a reasonable size for downloads / web publishing.
What I don't understand is, that the early beta versions DID embed fonts (see old file 1-2019 above), so the feature must have been removed or deactivated somewhere between the first betas and release.
Can someone from Serif explain, what happened, please?

I really like the PDF export and am fine with the speed and everything, but the file sizes are SO MUCH BIGGER than from the competition, that it starts hindering my workflow.
I don't mind the size of a high-res print file, but there should definitely be a setting equal to other applications "smallest file size" -- many of my customers want to have their publications online for download on their website and large files are just really inconvenient. I have tried setting the image resolution and JPG quality down, subsetted fonts and restricted the Acrobat version to 8 (my normal tricks to save a couple bytes), but the files are still monstrous compared to ,other software'.
What exactly is blowing up the file size? Maybe I'm just missing a setting?

000 reacted to gcoulby in Icon Pack
Hi I just made the switch to Affinity and I have to say other than the lack of Image Tracing I am loving it. I immediately fell for the Asset panel and started looking for Icons.

I found this post from a few of years ago: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/29075-icon-pack/

I like the packs, albeit a little out of date in 2021. However, I didn't like that they were all split into multiple files and that you can't merge categories. I decided I wanted to remake the pack, but I had no desire to painstakingly go through and name each SVG. So I created an application that reads individual SVG icons and merges them to a single file. I provide a colour change option so you can pick colours best suited for both Dark and Light themes.

Due to how this application works it will only work on Icon and will not convert complex multi-path SVGs.

Here is the application https://gcoulby.github.io/affinity-sprite-sheet-generator/index.html and here is a link to the repository (including basic documentation https://github.com/gcoulby/affinity-sprite-sheet-generator)

I have also included the asset pack which contains the same set of Icons (sans Gnome icons, which no longer exist) posted by @helmuthdu but they are contained into a single asset with subcategories

Thought it would be nice if everyone could make a short list of three things they really like about version 2. Not necessarily ‚favourites‘ in a specific order and doesn‘t need to be new features either, bug fixes and improvements are fine too.
Here are three things that make me smile and that l‘m going to use almost daily:
Shape Builder in Designer — makes creating shapes so much more fun … Style Picker — great time saver in the drafting phase Upgrade price for everyone and Universal License — great solution to the ‚App Store Problem‘

Thanks for your report @Jens Krebs & @Welsbach, our sincerest apologies for the delayed response here. We are exceptionally busy following the release of V2 and we thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
I have tested this in a document using expanded Filler Text across 10, linked pages of text frames - totalling 39,000 words and I've been searching for words back to back for around 10 minutes, all of which have been found as expected.
Therefore, can you please confirm for me:
What language is the Affinity App set to, and what language is set for your text? What version of macOS are you running? Are you manually typing your search term or copy and pasting from the doc? Is the issue shown with either method? Are you able to replicate this behaviour in my test document below? (if so, please provide a screen recording of this for me!) Many thanks in advance

I can confirm this issue has been logged with our developers and should be resolved in our next update - thanks for letting us know Mike!

I understand now. Yes, this would be a good feature for that use case. InDesign has this feature.
If Publisher doesn't have this feature by the time scripting is added to Affinity, and assuming there's a script method to create index topics, I'll write a script to do this and share it online.
