Jens Krebs got a reaction from Dmitri T. in Moving a masked image within a vector mask
    Hi Guys,

the ,right' way to do this in Designer is the following:
    1) create circles
    2) select "insert inside the selection" (menu bar, one of the little cakes on the right)
    3) either place image or just drag it from finder onto the circle you'd like to place it into
    4) the image is now inside the circle
    5) click the circle once to edit the vector
    6) double-click the circle to select the image - it can then be edited in size and moved around

    5) onwards: Alternatively you can just select the image in the layers palette
    a) open layers palette
    B) find your circle
    c) click on the little arrow next to the circle (the arrow signals "underlying" objects) to see the layers contents
    d) click on the image
    e) edit image

    Quick Edit:
Just tried it in Affinity Photo, works exactly the same way.

"Finished" means the company is no longer in business so there will be no more new features, no more updates or upgrades, no bug fixes, & no more customer support.

It also means it will get better & better in our memories the longer it has been since we used it.

Jens Krebs reacted to therossgroupft in Affinity One - Unified Product
I'm long-in-the-tooth in the graphics world. I was involved with evangelizing early graphics and multimedia programs, working with Apple, at the dawn of the personal computer age. One company, Macromedia, had a great idea: Unify vector and bitmap programs under one powerful hood. Fireworks was the eventual product. Unfortunately, Macromedia made some bad business decisions, and Adobe, which badly needed Dreamweaver, and feared Fireworks, bought the company, put Dreamweaver at the front of the suite and marginalized Fireworks. Why? Because they had already joined Microsoft in the idea that a program that is complicated sells training, but TWO programs that are complicated sell even more training.

More than 30 years later, we're still stuck with that legacy. It is counter-intuitive though. If you're a designer, you're in and out of Affinity Photo to do this or that, and they've given you some basic text and illustration tools, just like our friends at Adobe, to appease you so you're not in and out of two programs all day, gathering your digital pitchforks and rioting at the inefficiency of it all.   If you're a photographer, and you have a messy line around someone's neck edge, you COULD spend ten minutes airbrushing it, OR, you could, if you are in a vectored environment, just build a skin tone line, up it to 2-3pt. and gaussian blur it until it matches the edge of the neck.

In the real world, we have one desk, with lots of tools at our disposal, when we're doing physical layout work. Why do we need to keep two in our digital workflow?

A modern program which brings the entire suite of tools together in one space, so you're not in and out of two programs, improves workflow, reduces wasted time switching, and allows creatives improved creativity that leads to better work at a lower production cost.  Man hours, after all, are man hours, whether you're billing them or paying for them.

Steve Jobs said it best back in 1977: Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.  So make Affinity the most sophisticated product out there and create Affinity One, a unified product, and I know that I, and thousands of other graphic and photographic professionals will be HAPPY to tell Adobe what they can do with their kludgy, klunky outdated products.

Also wondering about a character map being added in the future.   Neither Babel or NexusFont allow for access to unmapped open type glyphs.  AD does, to some extent, via stylistic alternates but working in that way is very roundabout and burdensome when working with fonts that have a large number of glyphs.  More importantly, it isn't possible to access glyphs that don't readily have corresponding keyboard options.  Some software programs allow for entering known HEX codes to get around that issue, but again, that doesn't work with unmapped fonts.

Before the recent UK price increases in the Mac App Store, a Tier 50 app such as the Affinity apps was 49.99 USD / 39.99 GBP / 49,99 EUR. The new UK price (apparently blamed on Brexit) is 48.99 GBP, an increase of 22.5%.

(this is _not_ off topic, is very relevant, speaking about "bad image" --> )  I am reading CC prices are going to be raised in March in the UK, around 11 to 18 % (first rumors were around a 60%! But seems the former one is more accurate) . And that A. blames it to Brexit (No, I doubt that's the case. I feared this since the very first launch of a renting model ). I wonder if that will propagate to other countries... I fear it will...

I think this topic is beginning to get out of hand. There is no need to accuse Affinity for lying. They misestimated. It was already made very clear that people are upset about the long delay, but the obvious tension will not make it come sooner.

There were originally 150 brushes in the set, but a month ago Jef doubled the number, as noted in his post here.

The vector brushes only work in the Draw Persona in Affinity Designer. The raster brushes work in the Pixel Persona in either application.

Why can't you just let it go?
Currently, there is no Affinity Publisher, so, if you need to do DTP, use something else. When the software is ready to test, give it a go and see if you like it.
I personally am very happy with Photo & Designer and I'm sure I'll be happily using Publisher too when it comes out, but until there is actually something to talk about, it's not worth getting adjutated about it.

    Hello everyone,

This is the latest in a series of customer beta builds intended to improve the stability of the new 1.5.1 App Store version of Affinity Photo. We'll be doing these for a few weeks, then we will update the App Store version. This beta will sit alongside the App Store version and not interfere with it - although your settings will not be shared between the two versions.

As this is a stability beta, it is suitable for production work and should be used in preference to the App Store version if you need any of the fixes it contains.

We are a very open company when it comes to information, but there are some things that are commercially sensitive, and our competitors would love to know.

Suffice to say that when there is more to know it will come from the marketing team in an organised way, and not as an answer to a forum post on a non-work day!
