Jens Krebs reacted to Herbert123 in Affinity Web?
Dreamweaver is a train wreck. It becomes worse with each new release, and the latest one (2017) is a real mess with that half-hearted Brackets integration. I left Dreamweaver years and years ago. Most coders did the same: DW does not even show up in any of the user statistics anymore (for example: http://stackoverflow.com/research/developer-survey-2016
Adobe should just bury it - leave it to Adobe to destroy good products (Freehand, Fireworks, Director, Dreamweaver).
I work predominantly in Netbeans myself, with Notepad++ and Atom on the side for certain tasks. And PineGrow for a more visual environment that is still very code friendly.
To replace Dreamweaver, have a look at the PineGrow <-> Atom combo: bidirectional real-time updates while you work. A much better workflow compared to DW. It's pretty awesome. https://pinegrow.com/

Jens Krebs reacted to MattP in Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.6 - Beta 2.1)
EDIT: I have updated the beta to version 1.6 Beta 2.1 - it's exactly the same as the last build apart from some fixes for High Sierra and Metal. If you weren't using High Sierra or Metal, there is no difference, so don't feel compelled to download it again!...
Status: Beta Release
Purpose: New features, fixes
Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer
Mac App Store: Not Submitted
Download: Here
This beta version represents a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.
To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.
Fixes/Improvements:
Light UI improvements Metal accelerated view (available in Sierra or High Sierra - defaulted 'on' for High Sierra) and hardware grid * Artboards are created pixel-aligned Images are pasted pixel-aligned Items are copied to the same relative position between artboards Fixed guide/margin visibility Fixed Select-all (pixels) on artboard documents Numerous bug fixes and other improvements
* please note that macOS Sierra has a bug in Metal with AMD graphics cards which means colour correction will not function perfectly, hence why it is disabled by default. If you have an Intel or Nvidia card then feel free to try it. This bug was fixed in High Sierra so all cards should work as expected :)

Jens Krebs got a reaction from Alfred in Upgrade Pricing Policy
Exactly … if the price stays as it is, I'm more than happy paying full price every couple of years for a new version (or simply stay at the current version, if I'm happy with what it does and don't want any awesome new features) :)

Jens Krebs reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Photo Workbook and Affinity Publisher
Yes, the Affinity Photo Workbook is well underway. We regularly review chapters as they are submitted and some are ready for German localisation.
We actually use PagePlus X9 (via BookPlus) to create and compile it to PDF.

Jens Krebs reacted to WREN in The Box Set by Wren
Hey,
How bananas is it that affinity was onstage at the Apple keynote?! Of everything they announced that was the only presentation that made audibly say, "woah-" not only for their work, but the fact that they're getting that kind of stage.
I am working on a big update for the Box Set of brushes, and during WWDC they'll be 20% off.
Get it Here
Congrats to Ash and the team at Serif. Excellent job!

Hi, this is the only place for feedback/comments, and you can delete this after I've made it but I literally punched the air when I just got that email, I have bought it already and I am watching the tutorials to use it!
Thank you! <3

Great news! I'm wondering what was left out from the desktop version, as the announcement above says "almost all the features in the Mac version".

Jens Krebs reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Photo for iPad launched at Apple WWDC
Affinity Photo for iPad – the first fully-featured, truly professional photo editing tool to arrive on Apple’s tablet – is now on sale.
We were proud to be able to launch it during the keynote at Apple’s WWDC in San Jose on 5 June – the highlight of Apple’s global product launch calendar.
If you saw that, or if you use Affinity Photo already, you’ll understand why it’s the choice of thousands of professional photographers, retouchers and editors around the world.
We think Affinity Photo for iPad redefines photo editing once again, by bringing almost all the features in the Mac version to your iPad, so you can take all that photo editing power with you wherever you go.
The new version is tailored to harness the explosive power of the iPad’s hardware and touch capabilities, and is compatible with iPad Air 2, iPad 2017, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Pro 10.5-inch and iPad Pro 12.9-inch. Please note this is not the list of iPads that the App Store suggests it will work with, see this post for an explanation.
We expect this to be the biggest launch we’ve ever had and even better, Affinity Photo for iPad is priced at an introductory discount of more than 30 per cent in the App Store – so for now, you pay £19.99 / $19.99USD / 21,99€.

Jens Krebs reacted to NickJames in Thinking of Buying MS Surface Pro 4 - any advice?
Thank you Jens and Infocentral - and I was also coincidentally thinking the tablet might be the way to go . . . .now here's the thing, it was my wedding anniversary last week and my missus who will do anything to get me off microsoft and onto apple bought me an iPad pro with apple pencil.
I'm struggling a bit to make sense of something which doesn't seem to have a filing system and neither procreate nor pixelmator seem to do what I can already do with Affinity Photo and a mouse.
So I downloaded something called Duet pro which seems to offer pressure sensitive use of the apple pencil with windows apps. Ie it converts the ipad pro into a tablet. All good and I can fire up my lovely Affinity Photo and get it on the ipad pro screen but it doesn't react to the pressure sensitive pencil . . . hope Im missing something simple to fix.
Will start a new topic with appropriate header to see if anyone can help me on this. Cheers Nick

Jens Krebs got a reaction from AHompisp in Please put "Studio" in their own menu
Hi,
given the amount of items in the "View" menu, I think it would be a great help, if the "Studio" got it's on main menu entry rather than being a sub-item of the "View" menu.
It does make logical sense, having it in the ,View' menu, but it would be much easier and faster accessing the panels through it's own window, especially considering how crowded the "View" menu already is and how many items the "Studio" contains.

Jens Krebs reacted to R C-R in Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.6 - Beta 1)
With all due respect for your rights to comment as you see fit, please consider the following:
1. Technically, this is not a public release. It is a customer (not public) beta.
2. Concept & implementation are two different things. This is particularly true of beta software, which by accepted industry standards are expected to have implementation bugs that need to be discovered by beta testers. That is the purpose of betas, whether public or restricted.
3. This is just the first beta version of the update. It is not unusual for early betas to have a substantial number of cosmetic defects. The highest priority for early betas is -- & for practical reasons must be -- the discovery & elimination of functional defects. This is in part because fixing functional issues may require UI or UX changes in later versions, which in turn may require cosmetic changes.
4. There is certainly nothing unreasonable about reporting cosmetic defects at any stage of beta development, but please keep in mind they are unlikely to take precedence over any problems that affect functionality, & so are likely to be among the last things fixed before the version becomes a release candidate.
